Seems a confusion of levels or orders. We can and do know what male and female are biologically. Then too we can understand, resonate with and learn much about the archetypal level of masculine or feminine in all its aspects. But we on the ego and personal level are not and do not need to be exactly any of these. In fact to identify with an archetype completely is foolish; it is an inflation. It is like believing you are or must be a god or goddess: I am The Hero or I am The Mother, etc. Only in the movies or (bad) books. People are much more complex and interesting.
Beautifully stated, The myth of manhood... . I have done Men's work for 30 years. Dr Hollis states it so well - whatever we mythologize a real man to be, we somehow judge "we aren't it". I was giving a talk several year ago on this topic, a wise older women approached me after. She said it's not that men can't live up to the myth (man box), she said it's because they know they are so much more then the myth but just can't speak of it out of a sense of shame.

Dear Lorna I have several stories about my Guardian Angels and I always try to listen to them they have literally saved my life.. One night I was going home I got into a taxi but couldnt get the seatbelt down it was stuck fast, Itried all the way home, when I was literally a minute away from home we were going up a hill when I heard a voice shout at me "Get Your seatbelt on now", without hesitation Ipulled on the seatbelt and it easily came out, seconds later we hit a stationary trailer with force I would have gone through the windsceen no doubt Thankyou Guardian Angel..
You might read Ask Your Angels by Sonia Choquette. You can call your guardian angel any name. They don't care. But if you were to stop, close your eyes. Take a breath and release it. Ask your Angel, "what shall I call you?" Then, take the first name, image, symbol, etc. that pops into your mind. You are always connected you can't not be. You have many angels. Trust yourself.
I guess even serial killers have Guardian Angels…I wonder how these Angels feel about that type of human. I know Lorna says they never judge u but come on…maybe it’s my human thinking that finds this hard to believe.
The guardian angel is the higher self the Greeks called it the Daemon as did the Gnostics and as you should know Jung was very much a man of gnosis and stated that the Gnostics really understood the mind.
I believe the Higher Self is not the Guardian Angel because I met my higher self TWICE WHEN I WAS ONLY 12 YEARS OLD. I didn’t realize I was meeting my higher self at that time. I only learned the term higher self later on as I started to research these esoteric concepts. I only knew I was somehow meeting MYSELF-ONLY OLDER SOMEHOW & my eyes were a luminous blue & for hair & clothing it was just flowing energy. I know that sounds crazy but it’s true to the depths of my soul:)
