Hi there- Yes, this is buttercream frosting. Most of our cakes use just a simple "American Buttercream" like this one (butter, powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, salt): www.mycakeschool.com/classic-vanilla-buttercream/
Totally agree! I realized after filming that I had forgotten to outline the bottom and so the photos on my site of this cake actually have the outline ;0) haha. www.mycakeschool.com/cartoon-cake-free-cake-video-tutorial/
When carving, I often assemble the cake when the layers are partially frozen. (Not completely frozen). They should still be thawed enough that they can easily be sliced through. This is optional, but the layers are less fragile this way.
Beautiful and easy to follow tutorial! Thanks so much for sharing your talent! What kind of buttercream did you use? Could you use Swiss meringue buttercream?
Thanks so much, I'm happy that you enjoyed it! Yes, any frosting that contains enough butter that it firms up quickly when chilled will be the easiest to work with. We used our Classic Vanilla Buttercream Recipe (from our site), which is an American Buttercream. I'll leave the link beneath the video. Hope you'll give the technique a try! ;0)
Hi there- The hearts and "LOVE" are made from candy coating-- similar to chocolate, but no need to temper. (You can use bark coating, candy melts, etc.)
