What an incredible homeschool room. I also montessori homeschool and i have a beautiful sunny room. However i get discouraged sometimes bc of the cost of materials and i havent had a lot of luck finding second hand. Did you purchase your materials over time or all at once? Any tips for ppl whose budget is much smaller?

Oh no! Sorry to hear that! I don’t know if you mean the fairy garden or the Schleich figurines but just so you know; now that the girls have had them for a month now, the Schleich figurines are by far the favourite. The brand is Schleich and the line is Bayala. You can get them via Amazon

Hi, I know I'm a year late to this video, but I just came across it. I'm trying to get ideas for shared rooms for when we move and get our own place. Together, we have a now 5 month old, and he also has a 4 year old. We don't get her overnight too often but hopefully that will change when we get our own place again. By that time, our baby will probably be at least a year old. I was wondering if your youngest tries to climb to the top bunk. I know it's not that high of the ground, but as a new mom, I still have so much anxiety around my LO getting hurt. I'm trying to brainstorm sleeping arrangements for when we do have his other daughter stay the night.

History is also a really great substitute for fantasy. I have a lot of friends who do medieval swordfighting, complete with armor, and that is a totally normal, nonfiction activity for the children in those families. They do not spend their childhoods fighting dragons, because swordfighting is as real to them as cars and trucks, and maybe cars and trucks are more interesting. My swordfighting days are probably behind me, bit I still intend to have my children involved with spinning and weaving, and sewing, and cooking, and swordfighting, and whatever else is normal and wholesome, in my community - even if it isn't normal, in the wider world. It lends itself to a sense of time to be able to say, 'This is how my grandmother taught me to do X,' and I can show her a picture. Or, 'We learned how to do this because so-and-so wrote it down, five thousand years ago! What do you think you would want to write about, so people can remember it, forever?' (Writing is the real magic. Asynchronous communication is basically time travel.)

Beanbags in primary colors! Larger ones can be used on the floor to jump on, like in the classic game the floor is lava. You can match colors, throw them in buckets or at each other, use them as goal posts or as ponds and lawns in small world play, pillows for dolls or you can hide them so they can run around and collect them. So much fun and versatile too 🙂 I’ve seen some with numbers for counting too. You could draw numbers on buckets and have the child throw the right number jn 🤗

Great video, love that you mentioned Magda Gerber too ;) I think it's so important for children to learn how to set boundaries and verbalise their limits. The whole sharing thing teaches them they can't have any boundaries and they should just give in whenever another child is crossing their boundaries. I think this is one of the reasons why so many adults still can't communicate their boundaries well or can't say no to people at all. Or not respect other peoples boundaries. I do think this is not just about taking turns though. I see 'taking turns' as one solution for a conflict but not nessecarily the only one. I agree that a parent should help the children with sportcasting and validating the emotions, but I would present multiple options for the child in what to do next. Sometimes a child really doesn't mind to give their toy upon request and I don't think that's a problem when there are no boundaries crossed. Just as it would be a normal thing when an adult asks something from another adult and the adult would agree to give it or lend it. Or sometimes a child will go play with something else happily and I don't think it's nessecary perse for that child to feel like it's waiting it's turn in the meantime. I say this because I've seen children who were so focused on the 'taking turns' thing that it becomes the same for me as the 'sharing' thing. Especially when parents use the 'taking turns' approach as a very quick fix instead of talking about what's happening and the emotions behind it. I've seen children copy this and using it in a manipulative way to get what they want instead of as a tool to solve a conflict. I'm not saying you are doing that, I just wanted to add that perspective. I think it's very important that we really try to objectively observe what the child feels and wants in order to help them set and respect boundaries. Instead of projecting our own emotions on a child like you said. Also in the scenario where a child is willing to give up a toy or let go of their turn entirely. But I do agree that we should be careful that the child is not doing this out of expectation or because it wants to avoid conflict/drama.

Amazing video, very informative. I'm definitely gonna watch it again and take notes. The baby dolls idea is very good because I'm pregnant. The throwing problem is actually becoming annoying these days, will get my toddler more balls and encourage him to throw them around instead of other hard objects. Thank you so much

Thanks so much for watching and commenting, Wild Dreamer! I really appreciate it and I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, the throwing stage can be difficult. I didn’t have too much trouble except at mealtimes when food more often ended up on the floor than in mouths. I don’t upload so often these days as life gets busy but do let me know if there’s a topic you’d like me to cover! Thanks again!

Hi there, I'm a NZ single mum living in the Netherlands. I'm very fluent in Dutch however my native language is English of course. So I speak to my baby who is now 1 year's old in English and she gets the dutch from the childcarer that she goes to twice a week. However I speak dutch to everyone else around me, except my family who only speak english. Sometimes I switch to dutch though when I'm around other dutch kids then I speak with my daughter in both. So it's sometimes a mix. Do you think this is ok?

Hi Nicola! Everything you’re doing is perfect! I’m in France just now with my in-laws and so I speak French with everyone else and English with my girls, although sometimes I slip in French words with them too as I find it hard to switch languages as I’m not fluent in French. Thanks so much for watching and commenting x

Thank you for posting this. I had a similar experience, as I am also not into the foo foo side of hypnobirth techniques. I actually quit practicing the scripts for a few weeks because I couldn't get into the visualization aspect of it. They'd say "you're on a beach" and I'd say, "Nope, I'm in my living room". I struggled to lie to myself... thankfully. I'm very black and white, hard facts, and science driven. BUT because I had read how beneficial it is , I felt frustrated that I couldn't get my brain to accept it. Then during our 5th class, they read a script that didn't make me squirm at all. It was simply affirmations. So I went back over the scripts I had skipped and what do you know, I only struggle with 2 of MANY. Point being, if others are avoiding hypnobirth because it seems a bit flighty, there are so many other aspects to it and ultimately, the relaxation techniques, affirmations, and birthing positions taught are well worth ignoring the silly moments that may be sprinkled in.
