PPSV23 can be given alone if PCV13 is not available / not preferred especially in elderly because the serotypes covered protect against invasive pneumococcal infections . However , do not administer PCV 13 after as it would lead to hypo responsiveness and do not give multiple boosters ; single booster after 5 yrs can be given. We also see many patients who do not afford PCV and so are given PPSV 23 esp in elderly population
