This is. AWESOME Krista. Since I'm kinda starting back in my art journey, I like to use anything from acrylic paint to soft pastels, to oil pastels, to color pencils & more, even woodburning (aka, pyrography) the sky really is the limit. What I like about what you do is the 'Improvation' of art, because it's that moment in time, like the fusion music I play, improv because it's a moment in time, & to me, that's true art. Thanks for the Inspiration, too bad you're not down here in SW Florida, I think your art would do quite well down here, & would be cool to meet you & see your art in person, we have Art Walk downtown Ft Myers, & I usually play at it. Those look awesome! Especially because they have a brush tip! By the way, where did you get that sketchbook stand? Is it just a regular easel for books, like cookbooks! I’ve been looking for something like that put on my desk for using with sketchbooks😉
I got the stand off of Amazon and it is an art stand but it definitely can be used to hold books like cookbooks when you are following a recipe. I really love the stand - MEEDEN Solid Beechwood Adjustable Tabletop Artist Studio Easel. Thanks for watching!

Hello from Western Australia, new subscriber here. Just found your channel yesterday. I love with Just a few brush strokes you got so much expression on your faces.
I usually use a photo from a book or magazine so I can get the placement of features or shadows correctly. Sometimes it is nice to have a reference photo even when drawing or painting abstracted faces. Thanks for watching! ✨

Thank you for reminding this. It’s so difficult not to compare my art to other people’s art (especially when there’s so much great art out there), and it’s difficult to accept my art isn’t ever going to be perfect. But yes, imperfections make it better. And comparing is futile. ❤
Look…we’ve heard this before, but we can’t hear it enough. And you have such a way of connecting with the camera/your audience. It is thoughtful, sincere and real. I really appreciated this reminder. I seem to almost get to a place where I’m comfortable with my art and then slip back to thinking I should just quit. I guess everyone goes through that, but that’s why these reminders are so good for me. I really am so glad I found your channel, thanks for all that you do. I know these videos are time consuming. It’s your gift to all of us. :)
Thank you so much for these kind words, doing these videos is similar to painting, oh I made a mistake!! Oh, I am not perfect!! LOL I am learning to just create the videos and post them with mistakes - because just like art, it is all part of the journey.
For years I painted watercolor flowers (sorta like everybody else was painting) until I started watching you, Krista. I love your philosophy. I always wanted to paint acrylic faces but thought I couldn’t. You’ve taught me that I can because they don’t have to be perfect. In fact, being unique is better and more rewarding than being perfect, with the praise from others. I feel joy when I paint instead of getting all uptight. I’m painting in an old book so I tell myself if I don’t like it I can just turn the page. People that know I paint a lot ask me, “what do you do with all your paintings?”. I think, what a silly question because I don’t paint for the outcome…I paint for the doing of it. It feeds my soul. Thank you for helping me see this. You are so full of relatable inspiration.
I love that philosophy of "If I don't like it I can just turn the page." LOVE IT. I agree and that is why I love painting on paper, I never feel bad if I don't like the end result, it is just paper.
What you say about letting go of perfectionism and comparing yourself to others is really great. It's one of the hardest exercises. I once saw a painting that I thought was perfect compared to mine and suddenly wanted to give away all my art stuff. Because I felt totally untalented. After a few days and thinking about it, I was able to let go of that feeling again. The joy of creating is simply one of the most important things for me. Expressing my thoughts and ideas. I really struggle on this subject because I know I can’t be perfect but somehow I let it cripple me from creating 🤪 I think I can do that, why don’t I and the fear monster of disappointment creeps in and I really do love creating art. Thx for sharing ❤

You are sooooooo spot on, letting go is embracing freedom. I personally think you are an AMAZING ARTIST, you definitely have your own style & that's what makes you so recognizable, the same way that Carlos Santana is GREAT, because of all the guitarist out there, he is so recognizable, he has his own sound. I'm a gigging guitarist & that's one of the comparisons I get, but I'm told that I do sound different, & I think that's why I still get work. That was needed advice. I put one portrait a week on my facebook page as a skill building goal. I feel the pressure to always one up myself and that takes the fun and creativity out of it. Your reminder to let go of that need for perfection was so helpful. I'd love to see some examples of art you loved doing versus one that "had to be perfect".
This is interesting because I am also a minimalist so unless I LOVE what I created, I don't keep it. I will see if I have stuff in my art journals, great idea. Thanks!
Noooo….that’s judging yourself way too harshly. I bet your art is fun and thousands of people would say ‘boy, I could never do that’. We have to embrace where we are. It’s a struggle!

I see this came out 6 months ago and you don't have many views, please don't let that discourage you! I just found you a few days ago, watched a few of your videos, and subscribed right away with all notifications! I'm teaching myself art, and you taught me more in those few videos than anybody else I've watched! I think it's because your self taught (if I remember right), and you understand the non art school questions and hurdles. Thank you so much! Your so humble and sweet!
