The Reason Why The Copyright Reads 2002-2008, Is Because Gen 4 begun development In 2002, Every Gen (but 9) Begun Development After The Older Gen Had Been Released In Japan Gen 9 Begun Development In 2021

I'm not sure, but on Scratch I suggested that the copyright date of 2002 may be because of the DS, since that's when the DS started development apparently

No, Because Every Gen (But 9 Due To Legends) Begun Development After The Older Gen’s Release In Japan B/W In 2006, XY In 2010, SM (And The Ultra Games) In 2013, And SwSh In 2018/17 (reason for 2018 Is Let’s Go)

Do you think moving to the Platinum engine was complicated since that some stuff might have been removed or being incompatible with the HGSS branch that was already using Diamond as a base?

i think it was more like existing scripts within the engine switch have changed only in values rather than having been completely replaced with new sets of code instructions, essentially making the switch to PT to act more like an addon having been added, rather than a “from-the-ground-up” different game now being the foundation

It works pretty well for some songs - especially the title theme. I still personally prefer the final HGSS soundfont though.

for what it's worth, the Platinum prototypes (and likewise, any "third" version prototype builds that could exist) are some of the less interesting prototypes that came out of the recent leaks. nonetheless, this one is more interesting than the 2008-05-15 Platinum prototype since it's a lot closer to DIamond and Pearl at this stage and only a few changes that can be seen via normal means (as in not using any debug features) are really significant.

Edit 2024-10-19: I had to change the video title and remove "Part 1," this build crashes with wild encounters in the Sprout Tower and Route 32 so I'm not able to continue playing the game without using debug features. [Build Notes] - Copyright year is updated to 2009. - The HGSS soundfont we all know and love is here! I much prefer it to the DP soundfont personally, so I automatically like this build more. - PUSH START BUTTON on the title screen has been moved to the bottom screen, and now says TOUCH TO START - as touching to start the game has been implemented. - Marill's sprite in the introduction sequence has been updated, as this build now uses Platinum as a basis instead of Diamond. - The touchscreen menu is pretty much finalized. - Some BGMs are still not finalized, even with the new soundfont. - The trainer card now only shows eight badges from the beginning; earlier builds showed sixteen regardless if you completed Johto or not. - The PokéGear has been redesigned. Changing themes does not work in this build, unlike the 2008-03-31 build. - Hurry Along 1 now plays when the player's mother speaks to them. - Ethan/Lyra still has the Jigglypuff from the 2008-03-31 build. There is new changes though - one of which being their encounter song being implemented, and the other being that their house is now two-story. - The starter Pokéball bug from the 2008-03-31 build was fixed. - Walking Pokémon interactions have been expanded, and they can now do more than just give a smiley face. - New transition for wild Pokémon battles. - The battle UI now matches that of Platinum - dark gray status boxes, improved speed, animated back sprites and all. - Route 46 is somehow more broken in this build than it was seven months prior. At least the Route 34 theme is implemented... - Apricons are now implemented! - The follow me song now plays when the Guide Gent shows you around Cherrygrove City. - The PokéMart theme is now implemented. In the 2008-03-31 build and original GSC, there was no PokéMart theme - not even recycling the Pokémon Center theme like Gen1 did. - The Pokéball graphic in the Pokémon Center has been updated from the DP texture used in the 2008-03-31 build. - While not covered in this video, the PC got a redesign and is much more like it is in release HGSS. - The fighting youngsters blocking the way to Violet City now have a Pidgey and Ratatta. In the 2008-03-31 build, they both had Buneary - likely as a placeholder. - Professor Oak's theme now plays when he greets you at Mr. Pokémon's house. - The PokéDex has been redesigned, much more akin to the final release. The Johto regional dex is not yet implemented, national mode is still default. - The Rival's themes are now implemented - for both encounters and battle. Encounter sounds off, whereas the battle theme is closer to final. - The rival now notices that the player got ahold of his identity. In the 2008-03-31 build, he just walked off like in the original GSC. - Ethan/Lyra's theme plays during the poilce report, but then awkwardly cuts out when transitioning to the rival name entry screen. The lab theme then plays as normal after Ethan/Lyra leaves. - The catching tutorial still is not implemented. - Route 31 is now using the correct music. - Dark Cave's encounters are still not fully programmed, so it's still an instant game over if you entered as soon as normally possible. However, the cave transition is much closer to final and it now has its theme implemented. - The PokéDex entry screen is now updated appropriately to fit the dex redesign. - Route gates are now finalized. - Lightposts in Violet City were moved around. - Not shown in the previous video, but peeking at Route 36 from Violet City is now textured.

Build Notes: - First HGSS build as of 2024-10-14 where you can actually leave your home, and y'know, play the game. - Walking Pokémon are implemented, along with a rudimentary interaction. (I didn't record it, but Onix also had overworld sprites) - This is one of the last builds that uses the DP soundfont. - Saving is now done on the touchscreen, unlike the 2008-01-31 build. - The bag interface is now moved to the touchscreen, but the trainer/bag model is not yet implemented. - Ethan/Lyra has a Jigglypuff, whereas they have a Marill in release HGSS. Their encounter theme is also not yet implemented, and their house is single-story in this build. - When you choose a starter, the Pokéball for it doesn't disappear. Same for the rival's stolen Pokémon. - At this stage in development, HGSS is functionally closer to Diamond and Pearl than it is to Platinum... - On the flipside, the environments look very close to release HGSS. - The Battle UI is exactly the same as Diamond and Pearl... which means it's slow and the worst looking of all Gen4 battle UI's. - Apricorns are not yet implemented. - Route 46 is missing the gate model, and also the BGM used in its place is for Route 201 (DP). - The running shoes button on the touchscreen does not lock the running shoes in place. - Professor Oak's theme does not play when he greets you at Mr. Pokémon's house, as it is not yet implemented. - The rival's overworld theme is unfittingly, a piano rendition of the original GS New Bark Town. This is because the GS-E-RIVAL1 and GS-E-RIVAL2 BGM tracks are not implemented in this build, so they use the New Bark Town rendition as placeholder just like every other BGM track not yet implemented. - The only new BGM track implemented in battle is the wild battle theme (Johto only). - The catching tutorial is not yet implemented. - Route 31 isn't using the correct BGM track, despite normally being the same as Route 30's - Dark Cave's encounters are not properly programmed for the west side, so it's an instant game over if you get an encounter in the cave as soon as you can normally access it. - Violet City's Pokémon Center roof is gray, whereas it is a dark reddish-purple in release HGSS. - Probably more that I didn't cover in this video.

a possible theory is that this remake was originally developed for the Satellaview, hence the 1995 copyright date - but that got canned for one reason and another, and when Game Freak hastily ported it to the DS (at the very least) for testing purposes, only the visual assets were really re-usable on the DS so placeholder audio was taken from other games.

yes it is, it came out of the recent Game Freak teraleak. it's actually the most recent of the known existing BW beta builds that have been compiled from source.

its crazy to me that this remix is over 20 years old, it's roughly as old as me, just 1 year less. I remember before we had a computer whenever we'd go to the library circa 2006-2007 I'd use the computers to hop on one of those SFW flash game sites where they had various Mario ones that were just ripped from Newgrounds, including this. I believe this was before the project had become Mario 63 even. Memories.

couple of random things: -i want an old pc scented candle -when you checked the directory of the floppy, assuming u booted from the cd, that isnt a real floppy, thats an emulated floppy that got loaded off the cd. consult the El-Tortio addon spec to ISO 9660 for more information -i dont get why microsoft didnt put format on the boot floppy for ANY 9x version, its always on the cdrom in the windows source directory. very annoying and stupid -quick formatting using gparted is usually fine just dont let scandisk look at it or itll be angry (also i think that bluescreen is related) -hot take: i prefer the ie shell vs the windows 95 shell (i know, how evil of me) -paragon made an ntfs r/w filesystem driver for windows 98 and its not that bad. its also free anyway, good video, very cozy
