It’s a pity he will not conduct the Wiener Staatsbalett after the present season. (2019-2020). We ballet lovers are very much afraid for the future of this company, which has been raised to a very high level of excellence, and he has increased the repertoire with magnificent productions.
@@traudewim1994 Oh! Yes, how we miss Legris! I haven't seen the new sleeping beauty, but I saw a couple of his productions per streaming. I didn't find them bad, but I had the feeling he uses always the same "model" of choreography. As for the sleeping beauty: The only reason for putting a fairy tale on scéne is to perpetuate the tradition of the Great Choregraphers.
Even before Legris the repertoire had many very good pieces. For instance, the Swan Lake and The Quixotte created by Nurejev. Nurejev also left a very pretty Nutcraker, etc. Legris has incorporated very modern pieces, in these days a programm Lukáks/Lidber/Duato. We shan't be able to see it any more because the Ópera has been closed until 31st March 2020.
@@Bzcenci812 Balanchine a master of his time. Now outdated and much of his work really boring. A great thing about ballet is different people like different choreography.
Oh what a lovely rehearsal of Emeralds - I love the Faure music, Emeralds is such a beautiful piece. Thank you/ Danke to everyone at Wiener Staatsballett
The rehearsal clothes of the Wiener Staatsballet are perfect, neat, respectful yet movable. Compare my comment on National Ballet of Canada's weird get-ups. You can rehearse yet look well turned out - in more ways than one!
totally amazing!!! I watched the general rehearsal and loved the humour and the drama of the play. yes it felt like a theatre play, in a good way! With its symbolism of the staging and the costumes! I found the reaction some of the audiences really strange, I have overheard a conversation of an older couple complaining that why is there another Russian play in the States Opera of Vienna, aren’t there enough German composers.. sad. And also very sad seeing the underperformance in the sales box.. but hope it will still turn to be a blast. In my opinion it is already!!! TOI TOI TOI
I've just seen Swan Lake with the Viena Staatsoper Ballet in June. It appears to me that Legris is doing a fantastic work to push this company up. They were really well rehearsed and the conductor was marvelous with the dancers, like he really knew when to begin and the tempos, etc. I hope to continue to watch this company grow and bloom under Legri's directorship.
