I'm sorry. What EVERYONE commenting here at this video of Phil Cobb testing these horns is overlooking--or at least failing to indicate that they're aware of--is that this is STAGGERINGLY great trumpet playing! Cobb's playing is just phenomenal. Having studied with Vincent Cichowicz, Will Scarlett, Arnold Jacobs and Adolph "Bud" Herseth and listened to them playing live in the flesh at Orchestra Hall from 1976 through the 90s is that 99.99999% of trumpet players who've ever picked up the horn have had not a 10th of Phil Cobb's technical abilities on the instrument. Please: Credit where credit is due. (My apologies if any of the Japanese commenters are addressing Cobb's abilities!!)
Kirk is one of the few saxophonists today I respect and like the playing of. How could any one not? He played for Whitney Houston for over 7 years and won 1 Grammy. I'm sure Whitney Houston and her people at the time they were looking for a sax player were super picky. A woman with her voice and ability..whom I still think had the best female voice...from any genre...but opera. Unmatched. Interesting Kirk played a Keilwerth for decades. Almost 30 years before jumping ship...with all due respects...now with P. Mauriat. Odd choice as it is a Taiwanese made and assembled horn (s). I'd think some one at Kirk's "level of skill" would have chose another brand to go to if the offer was there. Attractive enough. Business. I'd rather stick with Keilwrth/Buffet Crampon. Even as a non-professional. If companies are going to ask for the same money for their horns why not go with once made in Germany or japan? Or France, Italy. Till Taiwan has established themselves in manufacturing (of any product) to the level of the Japanese, Germans....I'd rather spend my money on JP and German horns. Funny. The Americans used to make the best horns which are now vintage classics. But no more. No modern horns. Or nothing made in the USA (their horns are made in Taiwan. :)
