On a old house isn’t a good idea to put them on the front ? I plan on reinforcing the connections to the house before jacking it up . My worst fear is the old , rusty , toe nailed nails fail and the roof falls . I have seen it happen to houses around here that we’re not even being worked on .

Hey Guys! Great Video! Im gonna build my house i've waited 25 years to Bought my land the other day. Planning on living in a camper til im done. Im in NC know a little about a lot lets say. Many doubters ,but i'm use to that where I live, no offense mostly MEN lol Who says a girl cant build a house??!! 😝😝My build is gonna be small but perfect for me under 1100 sq ft. I am wanting to build my own Temp electric box. Could you provide the complete list of materials I will need to do this?
Depends on several factors. But there are also a few different ways you can find the answer. Depending on what your county would designate your building as a commercial building or residential structure? I would email/call/visit your local building department and ask what your structure would fall under and ask them which code book and year have they adopted. If its residential your code would fall in Chapter 8. But also who ever is designing your building should know or be familiar enough to specify what size lumber you need. I always rely on my design professional or the local lumber yard to tell me what we need to use. Sending your design to the local lumber yard is likely the quickest way to find out.
First video I have seen to give instruction how to brace a porch. I guess the others are afraid because of liability issues. Could you not have used a small framing square instead of adjustable angle whatever? I noticed it was at right angle.

keep at it. Charge more ( cover all the costs that it takes to let you work ) then....charge a percentage for how much you want to take the risk to be there.....at least 20%. keep increasing your rates at least yearly. Good luck, work safe
So the stiff back is a 2x6 that is just toenailed screwed into the 2x6 flat? Also what if you have another deck below your porch that you are keeping ? How to you brace the roof with boards on a deck surface ?

At first I was confused as to why you didn’t put the 12 right on the line, but then I quickly realized that doing this wouldn’t put your angle on the right place and it would be cut weird. Thanks for teaching me today fellas. I’m trying to learn all I can. But quick question, what do you do if you don’t know the pitch and it’s not 12?
12 is base number for any pitch roof. you will never have a pitch where the base isnt 12 unless you are working on a flat roof. Thats how you end up with 16/12 and 12/12 roofs.
