Hello and welcome to dunkandeggbricks! I’m a lifelong fan of LEGO and Harry Potter - so what could be better than putting them together!? My main project is a playscale MOC of Hogwarts Castle, but I also do reviews, brickhauls, random thoughts and anything else that comes to mind!
I normally post new videos once a week (Wednesdays at 4pm) and am always happy to answer questions and comments, as well as any feedback you might have - the more the merrier!
If you enjoy my videos, please consider subscribing to the channel and clicking the notification button so you know when I post a new video - your support is appreciated!

P.S. if you’re wondering about the name, it’s taken from a book called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms which acts as a prequel to A Song of Ice and Fire (better known by its adaptation, Game of Thrones)! If only they made LEGO...
I’m so glad you are continuing on & also able to see the incredibly detailed & thought out interiors that you’ve put so much time and effort into! I’m glad I didn’t happen to see that poll when you had it out, I likely would’ve had a heart attack lol ! I think the exterior of your castle & grounds is simply beautiful, but I do find myself watching & really getting inspired by the details of your interiors & then thinking “ouch! Now it’s all disappeared! Well, on the upside, when it’s taken apart, there’s really cool and interesting details inside, like a surprise!” lol. I’ve often struggled with whether I want to build a giant Hogwarts or if I would prefer to make little dioramas for certain scenes- and to be honest, I think I may try both, see how I like them- and if space or ideas etc turn out to be an issue (which undoubtedly space will, as will the money to continue it- which is why I’m glad I have a bunch of the previously released castle variations, haven’t sold them quite yet as I assumed I’d eventually want to use them for parts and here we are lol)…….. I do hope that you are able to enjoy it and continue on & have the best of both worlds! I saw a bit of your classroom/professors office you made a long time ago in this video & remembered how I loved how detailed & true to the movie it was- I’m blanking on the professors name, I’ll remember the second I post this though, lol. So I will definitely be going to watch that video next- just for some more inspiration & entertainment as I sort thru way too many PAB cups I recently unearthed 😂 Hopefully some of the latest castle sets will have new elements & recolours that you can add & find more ideas for how you want to continue your incredible build! If it weren’t so time consuming & expensive- I’d suggest placing sections on MILS plates- so you can ultimately move them around & transport to and from brick shows with a bit more ease- but even I am having trouble attempting to talk myself into doing that- and my builds aren’t going to be anywhere remotely close to your creations! Thank you again for all of the truly amazing content & for all of the inspiration & creativity you’ve definitely continued to contribute to not only myself but I’m sure many more people like me out there!
You may have sold me on both of these guys. It would be interesting to find out if the color variations were in fact on purpose or not- sometimes they do things like that due to availability and sometimes it’s just the weirdest most random Easter egg that you’d never think of- however- if they’re meant to all be the same pearl gold color, I truly would take it up with Lego, simply bc if “only the best” is their slogan- then we are paying a premium for all of the parts to actually match.. I’m not massively into SW, but I have fond memories of being super young, my parents ordering pizza, and us all sitting down & watching at least one of the originals- I’m sure if I sat down and took time to watch some of the newer stuff on Disney + then I would likely be more into it all- but my absolute favorite characters were always these 2 and, obvs chewie lol. I have zero interest in the nightmare fuel buildable version of him, however- lol.. but these 2 together are reasonably priced (if one can even use ‘reasonable’ referring to Lego haha) and they look excellent together! Nice review! Definitely would be interested in seeing if you manage to put a stand together for R2, if I end up grabbing these, I think it would be an excellent display idea! Well done on finding it early!
Nice one. Looks full without being too crowded and all of the details are spot on. I would say you have an extra stud of space available to extend your couches by a stud, you’d be able to sit two minifigs in each one then. Great build🐍👍🐍
Many thanks! High praise indeed from the master of details in small spaces 😁 I think you’re right that the sofas could extend - I’ll take a look and see if I can scrounge the parts together to make that happen without making another Bricklink order!
Wow, this looks so much better with those changes! I know you did this a long time ago- I just happened to notice your Slytherin Common Room video earlier (which looks amazing btw! I am obsessed with your HP builds- I’ve been subbed for years lol), I’m not sure if you ever put out a parts list or a studio file, but if you did & you happen to see this comment, lmk! I’ve been eyeing this set since it released, and now that it’s supposedly retiring this year, I’m hoping to grab it sometime soon- I think the stairs idea is definitely a good call- I like your entryway much better (both the exterior & interior) and I 100% agree with you on the point that it’s a shame they didn’t do it this way to begin with- I didn’t realize how small it looks from the side until I watched this, and with your 4 stud expansion it truly looks like a proper building- not to mention a little more legroom inside lol. Keep up the incredible work! Your attention to detail & building techniques and ideas are truly inspirational- I hope all is well & you are able to enjoy building in whatever time you get to do so! I always love seeing updates & even just random videos from your channel. Thanks for all of the amazing content, as always!
Hi!! Thanks so much and glad to hear you’re enjoying the HP updates - more to come soon!! I didn’t think anyone was still looking at older videos like this so thanks for commenting - I never did upload a parts list or anything like that for this, but I’ll see what I can do. I wouldn’t be able to do instructions (it would take a looong time) but I’d happily post the studio file on Rebrickable for people to use for free. I did actually sell my Sanctorum a while ago to focus on other themes, but I did enjoy the expansion and think it was an improvement on the original. If I don’t announce that the build it up then please ask me again for it, either here or on Insta
@@dunkandeggbricks yeah I tend to go on random bouts of watching old content from people who I follow who are making their own versions of things or upgrading them- so I spent a good day or so watching your channel this past weekend lol! I’m glad to hear and see you are back at it on here- I understand how “real life” gets pretty annoying & in the way lol.. can’t wait to see what you’ve come up with now! I should have picked up the Sanctum over the past few days w double points but I totally forgot about that lol. Would def love to hear your thoughts on this “current” and upcoming wave- your builds are far superior to the sets being released, however I am quite interested in seeing what they do for the Grand Staircase Tower- I have a feeling I will be unimpressed, but they’ve surprised me before! Thanks again re: parts list! I will bug you in the future if I don’t figure it out or if I don’t see you post it lol.. can’t wait for your upcoming videos! Be well!
Really good to see another Hogwarts video. I've worked my way through your previous videos and needed another Hogwarts "fix" 😂 The Slytherin common room looks very cool, I particularly like the glass wall that shows the lake and the stolen gift easter egg. It's a shame there is no room for a Slytherin dormitory, but I imagine that it's behind the oval wooden door 🤔🙂
Thank you! Hoping to have more out soon to give you another “fix”! I did wonder about trying to use some of the space for a dormitory, but as we never see it in the books or films I thought it better to make use of the space I had for what we do see. The dorms are definitely behind the wooden door - just don’t think about where it actually leads (to nowhere), it’s magical after all!
My LEGO is mainly sorted by piece type (bricks, plates, slopes, wedges etc) and then further broken down by more specific categories (ie plates, modified plates, round plates). I try to stick to Bricklink’s categories as it makes it easier to allocate new pieces a place, and helps when I’m making parts orders or finding things for MOCs. If I had the space I would also sort by colour, but that’s a pipe dream!
You’re completely right - and it was silly of me to forget it because I actually own the set! Early on in the design process I did try to include the large 1x5x6 brick with the Slytherin crest printed on it, but couldn’t find a good place to use it
@@dunkandeggbricks Im looking forward to it. for a little bit more than a year ago you inspired me to make my own costum hogwarts, that was the start to help me get trough my burnout. You are one of my favorite channels on YT
Thanks! Yes, I did try and work the steps in but unfortunately due to the limited headroom (7 bricks) they ended up looking cramped and I thought it better to leave them out - great idea though!
Yes I’m curious to see what they do - great that they’ll (hopefully) be devoting a whole set to is as it’s never had much love considering it’s such a prominent feature of Hogwarts. I’m guessing it’ll use an octagonal structure or similar using hinges, there are lots of great MOCs using that technique and it allows you to size it up. We’ll have to wait and see!
Hi! As I’ve been less active lately I’ve closed down my Patreon - thanks for all your support and I hope the new content I’ve got planned makes up for it!
I’ve managed to get 7/8 segments of the larger roof to work, but I can’t figure out the 8th, for me it’s the one with the chimney on it. There isn’t room for all 8 to fit so something comes apart somewhere. Please help!
Great job! I was working on this on my IG and a friend sent me a link to your video! I was trying to work on the side house. I do have this same octagon plate and I’m trying to use it! Thanks for the tips! ❤️
She's a beauty! I've got Harids on my to do list and adding the annex to the main hut is causing me some headaches. You've pulled it off wonderfully, and that roof? Brilliant. Guess where you'll be seeing that again😉 Great build and I'm looking forward to the pumpkin patch update.
I love your new plain!! Glad to know that you are NOT taking down the Castle because it has been a journey to see how you have built your castle over the pandemic. Also, I would love to see you bring your castle to the exhibition some day. Having said that, it’s your Lego builds and your room, so if you. ever change your mind again, go ahead! I know the modular style will look as stunning as your current design. The bottom line is don’t give up on Lego Harry Potter. :)
This sounds like the best compromise for your display and I look forward to seeing the progress. I am trying to display mine on a table that can be viewed all around hopefully! At this point I have some exterior views especially at the front with interior views in the next line of buildings- think of it as a large oval shape of the grounds. Still very messy at this point. The other possibility is to simply have a separate display of interiors as we have a lot of the sets and could leave the exterior castle view with only limited interiors. Thanks for sharing your thoughts as hard to find anyone discussing these options. 😊
Won’t it look just very weird if the tops of buildings are chopped off all the time? I don’t think it’s a good idea at all. Maybe the whole hogwarts just needs to be on a shelf that has nothing above it, like on the top of the smaller bookcase or something. To ruin the hogwarts in this way…
In a perfect world that’s exactly how I’d display it, but unfortunately I just don’t have the space - by doing it this way I get the benefit of seeing the interiors and keeping things neat but also being able to temporarily display the full castle. Have no fear, Hogwarts as you know it isn’t disappearing…
Have your cake and eat it too. You could build interior rooms to display by striping them out of the castle display. Rooms can be as big as they need to be then.
That’s true, and if I had more space I’d love to be able to have a detailed exterior display and lots of interior modules - unfortunately with the space I have available I’m going to have to settle for interiors and the possibility of a temporary exterior setup, here’s to hoping it works!
