Hi everyone! My name is Austin and this is Fintastic Freaks. From tours of my fish room, fish profiles, fish store visits, and more, this channel is meant to entertain and perhaps educate other fellow fishkeeping enthusiasts such as yourself. I've been keeping freshwater fish for over 15 years and in my videos I look to share my passion for this hobby with you in fun and hopefully entertaining ways.
Though I like to think of myself as a somewhat experienced fish keeper, the main thing I hope that you, the viewer see is that like other fish hobbyists I'm just a guy who is passionate for my hobby and like others in this hobby, I too can always learn something new. From some of the common and well know fish, to some of the more rare fish, or somewhere in the middle I look to give an equal amount of content that's relatable to other aquarium hobbyists, from some veterans and experienced keepers to the brand new beginners.
Thank you for being realistic on tank size. Of course bigger is better but there are a lot of gatekeepers in the hobby who will call you a monster for not having like 1000 gallons per puffer 😅 ok I exaggerate but we all know what I mean! I'm debating on what puffer species to get for a new 40g breeder in the near future.
I want to get a large tank soon, because of course i do, but mostly for my little pleco friends. My main problem is im super limited in space so my only options would be one big tank, or a tall tank which theyve veen growing on me lately. I want to make a 3d background with slate so theres tons of extra "ground space" for my plecos, and caves as well. Ive done a smaller version in the past and my bristlenose would always love to wedge themselves into the rocks, and slate is a perfect surface for carpet algae which looks amazing when grown in. Im just struggling to find a centerpiece fish to go along with that wouldnt pester or be bothered by my plecos, or be cramped in because of the weird dimensions. I also have this weird plague where guppies just keep showing up in new tanks in my room so im sure id have a big group in my tall pleco tank top LOL
I’m so sorry for your loss it’s hard fish are family at least she knows she is loved and had her last moments knowing she was not alone and was deeply cared for
Recently acquired a very young one. Hoping it does well. I have bloodworms, mysis shrimp, and beef heart on hand. Do they seem to prefer one over the other?
Blood worms and Mysis shrimp have tended to be a favorite to them and any othe knife fish I've kept. Broken up krill is another that they sometimes like.
Awe Austin. You can't blame yourself. Sometimes these things are out of our hands. And no matter what we do, we cannot save the ones we love. And of course Finley is a hard loss to take. She's your favorite. She's definitely the mascot of your fish room. At least that's how I looked at her. Big, beautiful, mascot FINLEY. And we ALL know that puffers are your favorite kind of fish. Lol. 110°???? Holy Moly, Austin, where do you live that gets that hot🫠? What does your heat index get up to 125° ?
Im so sorry to hear about her. I've had an MBU puffer, and when she passed, i lost it. As you mentioned, i also had her in a 29 gal at first. Its okay your not alone.
Death sucks. There's no way to sugar coat it. There's no way to rush yourself through the process of grief. All I can tell you is that you need to keep pushing through it and push through it again. The sense of loss and grief are normal, and while you'll likely never "get over it". There are no magic words to make it all better. You just gotta push through it. Don't let it crush you. I've lost a fish that meant the world to me. I've lost cats and dogs that I've loved like family. I've lost my mom. I've lost my son. They all hit me differently. They all tried to drag me down. I didn't let it beat me down, and neither should you, my friend. Embrace your love for Fun and celebrate her. Stay strong.
I appreciate you. Thank you for your words. I've had a Fire eel, a mbu puffer, and many other fish. I've been in his position. I've cried thinking something, anything was my fault. Sometimes it's just something you can't see at all.
Can you hand feed it yet? My first one would come to the surface and eat right from my fingers. Unfortunately I lost that one to a stupid mistake. I did bring another one home, but so far, it doesn't have near the same personality.
Fahakas can be together in over 300 gallons... But multiple females is best. Then, only the fatness and attitudes will Tell ya what they are. And, you may have to pull the male, if he is ready before a female is.. Or it is horrific torture, could be fatal, not watching them, like left town.. Lol.
Back when I had goldfih in a 125 theyd get duckweed from one of my angelfish tanks and ate it like ice cream.😆 Might give them some of that again to give them their veggies.
@@FintasticFreaks yeah appreciate not throwing the duckweed in the trash !!! You keep some monster tanks in your basement... must be challenging moving them...
Thanks I try to keep them nice. It has been a while since I've done a stream, though most of my water changes happen at midnight or later due to my daily routine with the day job and all... might see if I can sneak a stream on though sometime for that. 👍
Hopeflly soon. :) I'll share some deatils of Omaha's fall swap one the channel once I get some details about it. Going to be a lot of new things this fall for sure. :)
I just set up my 3rd tank ( i have multiple tank syndrome 😅) its my first brackish tank and found it easier than i thought ut was going to be. I have a heavily planted tank so finding it strange i cant really put much plants in this tank 😂 im getting figure of 8 puffer for it. Cant wait theyre so cute.......
Thanks for the info! I just got two figure 8’s! “ sally” and “jack skelington” is what my nephews named them! I appreciate you! One question I do have is, how to transition them from fresh to brackish? Just do it or slowly do it. I know you said you did it slow but how did you get to from fresh to the initial 1.008 ?
