When you are the parent of a child carrying the diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (classic versus Asperger's)... and had you never heard of @andrew_sxottt ... you would have no reason to believe this wasn't a documentary versus a short film. The meltdown was realistic because it was what they are... randomly routine, rarely if ever described, and intense... always a lesson in perspective and priority, from one moment to the next. Bravo. P.S.) "Ripley" is a compilation of teaching moments, to say the least~~

This impacted me more than most films these days. I clicked on it just because Andrew Scott, but everything about it hit very close to home. I know a lot of people get annoyed with how most autistic people are pictured on the low-functioning end these days, especially with films like "Rain Man", but the little behaviors ... I don't know if I'm autistic or not (I do have adhd and have some anxiety and depression), but so many things about Jake and Charlotte here hit me hard, especially when everything just ... feels too loud for Jake. This hits close to home for me, at least. And the acting is just ... just wow. For everyone involved.

Andrew Scott's performance is so good in this because he's not doing an impression of an autistic person, he's putting himself in the situation of an autistic person and responding truthfully. You can see how every movement has a reason. As he gets overstimulated you see him take a breath and start stimming to self regulate, when Amy touches him and gets in his space because she's worried he winces and bats her away. When the cops are talking to him you see him try to protect his eyes, his ears, all the while trying to communicate as best he can, using his finger to try to ask for a moment, to have some space. To no avail. Autistic actors should be given more opportunities to play, especially in autistic roles. But at the same time the beauty of acting is in the ability of one human being to empathise with another, put themselves totally in their situation, regardless of who they are. And I think, for an actor who as far as anyone knows is not autistic, Andrew Scott shows how it should be done. Not by mimicking behaviours, but by fully imagining himself having the *experience* of someone with an autistic neurology. It's beautiful work.

Andrew is just so amazing. Yes it is used a lot, but if I'm honest he is what a true actor is. He takes on every role with such great acting that he can really pull anything off.

i met andrew as an actor a few days ago, with sherlock (bbc series) in which he plays jim moriarty, since then i've been looking for his most diverse works (his dark materials, modern love, victor frankenstein, hamlet, fleabag and etc) and this guy is exceptional not only in acting, but also in all the love and dedication he puts in what he does. perfect! too early to say that he is one of my favorite actors?

Today, Scott is on his way to become the next major British actor, following in the footsteps of Laurence Olivier, John Gielgud, Albert Finney, Judi Dench etc. Catch him on YT in 'The Referee', a R4 Afternoon Play; a riveting performance as Koch! Scott is one of those rare actors that compels you to watch him and listen to him; if he read Instructions on How to Watch Paint Dry, we would listen enthralled. Don't buy that?....listen to 'The Referee' and report back.

First of all....this is so beautiful and I love Andrew Scott, he's an amazing actor and as someone who is involved in theater as well I look up to him and he has my upmost respect Second of all....I have personally struggled with similar things portrayed in this short film such as extreme sensitivity to sound and his portrayal of that I felt was so accurate.....it took me back to times I've experienced similar things in school in settings such as the lunch room and gym.... I would spasm and sometimes cry...my way of coping as seen in the video would be to close my eyes as tight as I could to wish myself somewhere else ....other people would often freak out and even some teachers didn't understand, I've been caught up in situations like this character has where I have felt defenseless Third of all.....I truly admire their friendship for it is so pure.....he sorta kinda left her for this "new friend" who didn't know him like she did and in the end turned out to be pretty crappy....but then she took him back anyways with no grudges or judgement and they went back to how they were before In the end this was beautifully done and is definitely something I think everyone should watch to try to eliminate this stigma on mental health and disabilities

What a great insight into someone with Asperger's. My son has autism and I have seen and spent time with many who have this on many points of the spectrum. I can totally relate to Jake (Andrew Scott) in the film from what I've learned through the many aspects on the spectrum. Andrew, you did a phenomenal job with this role. The reactions to surrounding sounds, and the unfortunate intervention with police in this short film, is the way many can misinterpret what is happening. Jake's look of anger following the interaction with the officer is all too understandable about how uneducated some can be, with the exceptional factors of the spectrum. It's something that persons on the Autism spectrum and parents of those, can relate to. Happily, this is changing as many in our community are becoming aware of the signs and behaviours associated, including police and social caregivers.

most short films aren’t made with the budget needed for a full length film most screenwriters use short films as building bricks in their career, hoping to get spotted at film festivals and then backed by companies that can fund then sometimes however short films are short because that’s the vision of the screenwriter

Once again Andrew Scott brilliantly portraying a character in the most subtle and yet powerful way. An incredible and moving short film. The character of Amy well perceived by Charlotte seems innocent but really is reprehensible at a certain point. Perhaps the British security and police are truly so lenient. I tend to be doubtful. I do know that if this happened in the merciless USA poor Jake would have been thrown into jail, probably suspected of being a sexual pervert or worse and left to rot and certainly physically abused and beaten until MAYBE the truth would come to light. Possibly sent to some so called psychiatric clinic and pumped full with drugs. Traumatised he might have been released without an apology or any assistance but they would have obtained an address where some weeks hence he would receive an horrendous bill of many thousands of dollars for treatment/abuse he neither requested or needed. If you doubt me that is your problem. I know the truth about that paranoid and ignorant nation's practices.

The following is upon account of all striving-to-be artists and their danger. (Since I’m currently being no touch brainwashed by the U.S. government, my delivery will sound brainwashed and therefore the message is not believable). The U.S. government is capable of no touch brainwashing innocent artist into crude, perverted cops. Then the once liberal thinker is brainwashed into a scary Lady Gaga watching sexual predator. It is evil. They can brainwash any artist into becoming their worst nightmare. This is destroying individual distinction. Everything that a liberal once opposed could become their belief system. Ideas and physique can both be changed If a person is a threat.
