Hey! I'm Sophie, I'm a creator, visual storyteller and founder.
At 20, I came to the US alone with 2 suitcases. 3 years later, my work could be found on a billboard in LA, a music video on MTV Asia, or on RU-vid Stars' vlogs featuring multiple hundred thousands of views.
A self-taught filmmaker, my short film The Dragon Dream was selected for multiple film festivals and exhibited around the world.
Eventually, I found my passion in building digital products, and made the leap to Silicon Valley. I've worked at early-stage startups that are backed by the prestigious startup accelerator, Y Combinator as well as a real-estate startup backed by the leading VC-firm a16z.

5:33 girl I’m from India a “developing country” and we have plenty laptops and desktops available here don’t worry your first world self about it 💖 nice video tho
Hi, I have an online agency and need a simple but easy option to design a website. I have wordpress right now because my marketing coach recommended me that. But I find it hard to work with it. Looking at your video I am quite interested in readymag and using figma but what third party tools are there to make your figma design into a website? Because I am quite a picky person when it comes to my website design since I am creative but know barely anything about codes so I want to keep the easy to use.
5:35 you couldve just said That some third world countries dont have acess to a computer It feels icky when u specially call out india like that even though india has one of the fastest developing IT sector and growing computer literacy
Sophie, you’re amazing! Your story really resonates. Very inspirational. I’ve reinvented myself perhaps five times now. 14 years of that was spent in Hong Kong as an airline pilot - (which Covid killed), followed by teaching at the University of Hong Kong (it was cool, but it didn’t pay enough to live there!); then finally coming back to the US for another airline pilot job, which ended because of a health problem. Now I’ve I’ve been immersed in AI and have started a business making custom GPTs. Your insights about website development are invaluable to me. Thanks. Just so you know, I may be tapping your expertise in the future. You should know that we have a lot in common. I’ve also also had my share of bad timing which is led to at least four other reinventions. Navy pilot/ computer animator/ book seller/ cargo pilot/ corporate pilot/ airline pilot/….. lots of changes and reinventions. Please forgive my late night ramble. I would love your insights about my web design. I’d love it if you could give my WIX born site a quick look. Thanks in advance for looking at it Sophie. It’s at: customgptsolutions.ai
If you're a small business / artist or you have a website you'd like me to review, give feedback, critique on my next video, share the link below and I will select a few to give feedback on my next video! :)
Sophie you're so underrated! You kill! It's such a good video! Best in that niche I guess (picking a website builder, talking from your hands-on experience). I keep coming back to that video all the time! And that's not because I'm a creep - I'm just too big of a procrastinator :) watch this instead of actually rolling up my sleeves and start with ANY website builder :D Anyways, thanks for r/m recommendation, i guess i wouldn't sign up to it if it wasn't because of you (go straight to them show the comment section and ask for sponsorship lol)
Im currently using squarespace, however I'm struggling with SEO and finding my listings on search and its quite slow, the other thing is the payment processor Stripe is crap it takes a week to get ur payments even 10 payments later!!
Im young but once im old enough i have looked at sf, but its hard to find a one bed, thats good quality and in a nice area for less then like 3200 how do you find these?
This literally became my favorite channel in just two videos. I am here doing market research and you literally just summarized my whole life rn.. Amazing work truly.
@@SophieCheung Starting a RU-vid channel surrounding having a digital presence on my main channel. Just checking out what other amazing creators are doing. Your editing is killer!
Building a semi-simple real estate website without using any IDX plugins. I'm thinking Wordpress as I've used it before, but Square Space and Wix sound interesting. Will have to watch more vids. Thanks
Because it takes time to master it and also it's heavy with bad PHP and expired plugins for example imagine what is easier to create a standard e-commerce on a Shopify CMS or in wordpress with WooCommerce and Yoast?
Really useful video! Just one thing to point out, there are Design Professions, like UX Design or Industrial Design where you need a more complex way to interact with the website to fully showcase your work. So it isn`t just to make it look more professional, it is also important to make more tangible.
I love the comparisons and explanation for all of these! It really helped me a lot. The only thing that was missing for me was Wordpress+ Elementor. I would‘ve loved to hear how it compares to e.g. webflow! 🫶
Umm people from India don’t have computers is a very weird and (offensive) statement to make. It’s not true. Almost all people who are opening websites have a computer.
That is wrong! More people have mobiles but not a desktop computer. If you have it, you may be the 2-5% people who have it. Also if you fly, you are just the 5% of population in India that fly. Many people in India have leaped from a television/cable to high speed internet using simcard on their smartphones in a decade. So lots of kids and grown ups in India haven’t used a computer before.
@@jollygood25 Wow you are so wrong. In urban household upto 23% of the people have access to a computer In rural areas it's about 2~3% Overall, the percentage comes down to 11%, that's more than a 10th of the population
id love to use web flow but not time for a one off I found the tutorials on the uni a bit naff guy was racing through was more of a sales pitch than a tutorial.
Hi Sophie, absolutely love your voice and videos, new subscriber. Really appreciate your thorough and genuine content. You stand out of the crowd that offer little and are time wasting. Much love. 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
This was SUPER helpful! I'm actually a Squarespace fan and will still use it, but I ALWAYS like looking at counterarguments because of the fees and the lack of flexibility (I'm leaning how to code and have been for a year now...slowly getting better, so I completely understand why someone would not prefer Squarespace). Thanks for being so objective and clear with this info! I learned a lot!!!
really glad it was able to help you! i do think squarespace has improved a lot over the years, and squarespace is perfect for a certain type of user like yourself, natasha :)
ReadyMag seems a new name and a good one. But I find no info about it. Could you make a video explains your using and tips and tricks... something like that about Ready Mag?
