Hi , just me and my channel, all about getting out and about on my bike(s). Visiting new places and some bike camping along the way. Hit the Ko-fi link to help fuel the channel and help me do more trips, coffee and cake is what makes the wheels turn. In return I will send you one of my “Solo Biker Dave” logo stickers 👍 or you can just buy a sticker on its own. Please help the algorithm and subscribe to my channel . See you out there Dave.
Good conversion. A couple of things from my touring MTB (29er) I have fitted full mudguards, sick of getting covered in mud and crap. (Cube do a really good set that fit any make of bike) Also Schwalbe "Smart Sam" tyres are great for touring. Roll really well, yet offer good grip and they never seem to wear down! Cant wait for your trip over to Huddersfield.
Looking good Dave and ready for some mud. Prepping the bike for adventure is surely all part of the fun. Good idea about going rigid too, especially if you're not out to do any technical terrain. I specifically went with a rigid mtb for the simplicity, i do take it on some rough stuff and honestly haven't missed suspension. Slightly softer tyre pressure and a looser grip on the bars help. Might i suggest a bit of electrical tape around the cables that are rattling against the head tube, might help to dampen the noise and protect the frame 👍
Thanks Barney, yeah those original forks are purely cosmetic as unable to use them for technical stuff anyway 🤷♂️ Lower pressure and rigid much better and lighter. I will try some tape , but I think the rattle is inside the frame as you go over bumps and gravel , and I can’t get to that 😂😂 atb Dave 🚲⛺️👍
I really like that set up, the cannondale frame is a great bit of kit. The set up looks like it will see you through most winter weather conditions. I will be interested to see how the new forks fair in your next adventure out with Ian. ATB Big Dave Scotland
good decision dave heavy suspension fork just not needed unless your doing technical cross country.wider tyres lower pressure is definitely the trend 👍 you've just reminded me i need a new lower cartridge headset bearing on my Ribble 🚴
Those original forks are completely useless Geordie , heavy and unfit for purpose ! the new carbon ons with lower pressure tyres are much better and so much lighter. atb Dave
Hope you like those forks mate, they’re my favourites, been really good for me, glad you got sorted with the change over eventually!, Bike looks like a weapon for those autumn towpaths, catch you soon for the trip🚲⛺️🍺👍🏻
I do enjoy watching all together but the small ones make a lot of sense too not everyone has the time to sit and watch a 40 mins long vid …keep em coming mate 👍🏻👍🏻🚴🚴
Yeah, i'd never advocate putting narrower tyres on a bike but i would here. With 3mm of clearance once your rear wheel goes out of true it's going to rub up on that connector. I'd be going to 32mm tyres if i were you
@@davesolobiker5601 Good job with the Video BTW. Debating about getting an E-bike or converting an existing bike i have. Problem is they are all steel and have rim, not disc brakes. My rim brakes are all dialled in on all my bikes with about 1mm of forward toe on the brake pad, but even the rim brakes depend on no water on the rim and no grit (which TBH is a given in Glasgow). I've seen many E-bike brands and i used to own 2 Ribble steel racers in the 90's and 2000's . I think if i get an E-bike it has to be recognized brand. I've heard horror stories about quality from brands in China and also some of the conversion kits for bikes i wonder if the bikes themselves are suited to conversion. Most E-bikes seem to have beefed up chainstays and dropouts if they have a rear motor to handle the torque
Watched the individual episodes as well , great trip you guys are inspiring me to do a wild camping trip . I did a 180 mile 3 day cycle trip to Wales from StHelens last year with 2 nights in a Premier inn
Hi Dave and Ian, love these videos, very relaxing and like another comment the sound of tyres on gravel is great although I'm a roadie😂. Hope you don't mind me asking but how did you 2 meet? Hope you're both doing some over winter
Thanks , we got biking together thru RU-vid last year and have done 6 trips since . He cycled a lot with another Channel I followed youtube.com/@solitarycycling?si=63x-Mb2jdOMMqr-R But James doesn’t do as many trips these days. Hopefully we will be doing stuff over winter together and solo as we live 200 miles apart. Atb Dave
Cheers lads, been enjoying your vids for a few months now. No nonsense practical biking n camping with a pint or two. Sound. Look forward to seeing more. All the best, Mick.
Cheers guys, I really enjoyed that three parter, good stuff. :-) I would like to see a compilation of all three parts together in one vid, maybe with some extra footage? Thanks for posting though. Alan. ;-)
some nice sights along the way Dave.you certainly earned the refreshment stops 🍺🚴 does ian never wear a helmet ? you've got some good trips in this year 💪👍
Loved that video pal and all the old buildings it just goes to show that once you get out into the country England is still very much unchanged from 100 years ago, beautiful idyllic houses and country lanes and that is why we cycle pal. Looking forward to the next one Dave.
Absolutely , away from the urban sprawl and you soon soak up the lovely countryside with its quaint old buildings. Thanks for watching, until next time atb Dave ⛺️🍺🚲👍
@@davesolobiker5601 we were out over the last few weekends in the heat, them hills wiped us out, great fun though, can't beat being tired from riding bikes, love it
Hi it’s Ian from the video, on my strava it was about 137 miles, relaxed few days, but we were just enjoying living outside and wandering for 3 days🚲⛺️🍺👍🏻
Hi it’s Ian from the video, now and again people mention not wearing a helmet, I used to when I got a road bike circa 2015, don’t bother for touring, but I appreciate what you and other folks say, im thinking about wearing one again, I am knocking on now, might not bounce too well! 😂👍🏻
Great video of the last day mate, I was totally out of energy that morning on those brutal hills, bouncing along the bottom, until Wetherspoons got me back in the room!😮💨🍺🍳🥓😏, good memories, catch you soon for an autumn camp hopefully🍂⛺️
@@davesolobiker5601 I’m sure it does ,just keep peddling and definitely don’t back pedal as it sounds like a football rattle, don’t tell me you’re to young to know what that is I’m so old ?.
Another adventure over and done with, it was a shame about the poncy pub, there are too many around these days, all part of our changing society. These videos show that you can just follow your nose and make things up as you go along and still have fun. Well done both of you on those hills, they even looked steep on the Gopro. I look forward to the next cycling/camping trip, will you manage another before the really bad weather sets in, or is that it for this season. ATB Big Dave Scotland
Thanks Big Dave , yeah hoping to get one more in possibly 🤷♂️ but I will still do the odd one locally for an overnighter to keep the channel ticking over . Trying to fit trips between my work , Ian’s work and both our family lives is always the tricky bit . Until the next one atb Dave ⛺️🚲🍺👍
