That's pretty nice. You should try painting it. I know Oil Clay doesn't cure, but for the purposes of a video putting paint on top of the sculpture is not going to hurt. The only downside is that you cannot re-melt the sculpture and reutilize the clay, but I thinl the trade off is worth it.
The thing is, I use vaseline to soft much of the details, I thank you for your suggestion but it's almost impossible for paint to stick on the surface 😕
@@plaguemouse5549 I used turpentine too and it was indeed really good to smooth, but the brand I used is no more on the market. the ones I purchased are abrasive af. lighter fluid doesn't work too well with this clay. nontheless every now and then I'll make figures on epoxy and that material I can paint.
I do too! to be honest the clay/wax I use for the video isn't my prefered choice but it's better if I just do the whole thing out of one material. normally I would make the weapon of a hard epoxy clay and then use sand paper and other tools to give layers of detail.
Dude, this is amazing! Just stumble onto your channel and it's an instant sub from me. Just a suggestion, maybe you could get one of those rotating plates for the glamour shots at the end? It makes it easier to marvel at the finished sculpture
Thanks so much!! I tried! I have a rotating plate, but the camera from the celphone does a terrible job with depth of field on things of that size. Next time I'll give it another try, perhaps I can make it work. Thanks for your suggestion friend 🙂
One thing I've found about that - using rocks from outside is an excellent idea, but be sure to paint the rocks to match the painting style you used on the model. Otherwise, the contrast between painted surfaces and natural surfaces looks very bad. I have made that mistake many times in my learning process!
The putty I'm using is a local one made with epoxy. It's a mix of two components, the epoxy and a cathalyst. You can use Miliput or Greenstuff instead. Every time I finish a putty layer I let it dry and harden before adding the next one, otherwise the layer on top would deform and ruin the one below.
The fingers and the arm webbing really sold the model. I like how you lead with the head and then finish with the creepy full reveal. Great work and display!
That skin technique blew my mind. What material are you using? I've been using Miliput, which I love, but it works a little differently. Your model really captures the essence of the orks so much better than the McFarlane Toys figure.
Thanks :)!! This clay in particular is made of epoxy. it's a local brand, you mix two components and after an hour the clay hardens. I only use it whenever I want to make a mold of a figure since it makes it so much easier to handle without deforming it.
So, I was watching Shadow of the vampire and despite being kind of slow paced it has some really wonderful moments. There's one in particular were Murnau is confronted by his assistants on who is this actor (Willem Dafoe) and where did he find him. Murnau explains that as a student he once found a book mentioning a line of evil kings presumed to be vampires. So years later after reading Dracula for the first time he traveled to scout the zone mentioned in the book and eventually found one. And I just find delicious the idea that someone actually recorded the existence and location of real vampires but noone took it seriously enough to check it 😂.
New subscriber here. That is some fantastic work Sir! I know what You mean about the wire frame and clay weight. I am facing that problem on a current sculpt! Thank You for sharing with Us here in tubeland! Take Care, Be Safe, God Bless, Later
Thanks so much!! to avoid that problem next time I'm going to try either using a stronger wire or covering the uniting points with an epoxy putty. But yeah, once you pass the point of no return it becomes such a pain..anyway, thanks for your kind words, God bless you too and stay safe :)
The excess of weight of the clay turned out to be too much for the wire connecting the figure to the base. The feet and leg articulations kept breaking the clay with little fisures making the whole figure a nightmare to handle. Thus I couldn't finish detailing it as much as I wanted to but, as the saying goes "live and learn".
What type of clay do you use, and if you take suggestions, the straightjacket monster from silent hill or Freddy krueger would be a cool character to make ( just because I seen your jeepers creepers vid and this one u have a gift )
Hello friend! The clay I use is called "plasticera" in my country. Basically it's a mix of beewax and plasticine. It's not optimal tho, I've worked with better ones like monsterclay or chavant. The thing is, those clays are awfuly expensive in here so plasticera although not perfect, does the job. Freddy is on the list XD. I want to do a couple of things before, but Freddy is coming.
@urielbantsculptures thank you for the name, and it's good to know that Freddy is coming and I am so sorry, but I got another suggestion I saw your alien sculpture so I thought of the Yautja (predator)
@@urielbantsculptures awesome can’t wait to watch. I really enjoy watching all these different sculptors and their process and progress. I just started not to long ago thanks to all the amazing artists on here
@@urielbantsculptures idk lol folds and wrinkles on clothes are difficult for sure Faces suck and I guess all around process like I said I like watching to see what works and what doesn’t and how everyone else goes about it their own way
@@jasmor3069 jajajaj! yes, faces indeed are quite challenging. ok, once I'm done with the current video I'll make a simple tutorial and we'll see how it goes.
