Just ordered this along with a few other board games to get free shipping. Your intro along with my memories of seeing all the expansions this game had on the shelves of my old local store sold me. Loving this breakdown and I can’t wait to watch Part 2 now!
Great vid indeed.I was wondering though, why not attaching caught in the web to Aragorn as him being steward of Gondor is always easy on resources.Thanls
That's definitely a valid choice, I've done that several times in the past. On the other hand, 2 resources every round is a very steep cost, and I wanted those resources for other things while also guaranteeing being able to use Aragorn's superior stat line every round. But again, no wrong answer here :)
"Unique" in this game (noted by the star symbol next to the card's name) means that there can only be one copy of that card "in play" on the table at a time. For example, all named characters (like Gandalf) are Unique, which means there can only be one Gandalf on the table at a time. However, each player is allowed to put up to three cards named "Gandalf" in their deck. Hope this helps!
I love your videos for lotr log. I’m a new player who loves to read the rule books, I just don’t see how you came to the ‘silver action window’ I get how it works I just don’t know where in the rules it says it!?
Glad they're helping! So the action windows are all listed in the Appendix of the rules reference book. You won't find the name "silver action window" in the book, that's just what some in the community call it because it's the second-most important action window for new players to learn.
@@TheGameLocker Thanks for your response! Even on the holy grail of pg 20 of the rules reference. I can see 6.2 deal shadow cards (which are facedown) and then an action window, but they are not flipped until 6.4.2. It seems like the silver action window is in the middle of 6.4.2 after they are flipped but before they are resolved??
@@robbiefieldwick3291 It's the action window immediately after 6.4.2. The Shadow effect resolves, but the combat damage has not been determined yet (6.4.3). This is the "silver" action window that lets you respond to the shadow effect that you have now seen, but before any damage from the attack has been resolved.
Wow, by far the best how to play videos I've ever watched and I've watched 100's. Thank you, I was really having a hard time getting my arms around this game.
Dwarrowdelf cycle has the best (strongest) player cards, Shadows of Mirkwood cycle has all the Eagle cards which are SUPER fun to play with Radagast hero from the new reprinted Ered Mithrin Hero Expansion. If you're looking for more quests, Harad cycle probably has the best outside of the reprinted content, followed shortly by the final Vengeance Of Mordor cycle (excellent quests, but most difficult and ridiculously expensive to acquire). Hope that helps!
@@jackhildreth3172 Yes, you need the corresponding deluxe box to play the quest in each adventure pack. You can always use the player cards inside though. The exception is the Mirkwood cycle, which only needs a core set.
Hi, excellent video. Pardon my ignorance though, regarding morph shields, what is the significance of removing a damage cube at the end of a combat round once all opponent ships are destroyed because all damage cubes are removed anyway at the end of combat? Thanks
Not quite - damage cubes are removed at the end of the combat phase (i.e. ALL combats). There might be multiple combats in a hex where damage can carry over from battle to battle. Hope that helps!
ok. just asking if you still do videos and would do a videos on the new expansions that came out?. just such great videos from before so i would loved a new one for the new stuff :)
Whenever I look at the time bar of a rules teach and it exceeds 30 minutes, I just don't watch it. I want to save time on learning but reading usually takes around an hour or two so why watch a video. But this? This was amazing...Do not regret one bit, and the entire hour is actually fun.
Don't do like I did and try to play this with 3 or 4 players. And if you absolutely have to, don't do it when you're trying to teach the game to ALL of them for the first time. 💀
I've tried this too, and had a similarly bad experience, lol. I tried teaching 3 other new players on Journey Along The Anduin, and realized that quest scales horribly at 4. Drew the worst treacheries and got swamped. I learned to stick with Passage Through Mirkwood and take it nice and slow for those without prior experience with card games like this :)
Absolutely stellar work. I've watched all 3 videos on one night shift. Loved every minute of it as a returning player. Pretty sure I'm going to rewatch all three tomorrow night then get playing this weekend. Thank you very much, I'll be sure to show you some algorithm love 👍🏻
@@romiloszachariadis2334 Yes absolutely. The Revised Core set is the best introduction to the game, comes with all of the tracking components you'll need (like threat dials and resource/damage/progress tokens), and a TON of really important staple cards for building decks with.
19:32 - 19:54 - THAT IS NOT TRUE, you cannot trigger effects that lasts "until the end of phase" from outside of phases. You cannot trigger Protector while resolving Balrog attack from Doom, Doom, Doom that happens "at the end of the quest phase". Quotes from Caleb: <You cannot trigger any effects that last until ‘the end of the phase’ during an attack that was initiated at the end of the phase. You could still trigger effects that last ‘for this attack.’> <If an effect lasts “until the end of the phase” then you must be in a phase in order to trigger that effect. This is consistent with A Game of Thrones where certain effects last “until the end of the challenge.” In that game, if a character is not in a challenge, then he cannot be the target of an effect that lasts until the end of a challenge. Similarly, if you are not in a phase, then you cannot trigger an effect that last until the end of a phase. This may reverse one or two previous rulings I have made about triggering effects outside of a phase, but it is the simplest answer and it helps to avoid other strange interactions.>
Appreciate you following! I'm taking an extended break to focus on family and job responsibilities, so I don't know when I'll be able to make more content.
You put a ship in the same sector as GCDS and then put a influence disc on an adjacent sector connected to the galactic center, next round your ship is destroyed by the GCDS and you are left with a sector that you have influence in but is not connected to your other sectors with a wormhole connection. Is this a legal move?
Good video. It's frustrating how many of these could be easily fixed by just phrasing the cards better. I was hoping for more from the revised release.
I'm returning to this game after being disappointed with another highly anticipated solo card game: Imperium: Horizons. The game lasts for far too long, but as someone who's played a decent amount of LotR TCG, I can say that it is just as much of a challenging puzzle. I saw that the most successful One Deck features the contract card Bond of Friendship (there have been a few different hero combinations). Have you tried 4 hero deck construction (single handed solo)? How does this affect game length compared to playing 2 handed solo?
Hi! Bond of Friendship in my opinion doesn't lengthen the solo-one-hand experience - it's just one extra hero with deckbuilding restrictions (iirc). I built a 4-hero Hobbit deck that did really well against the last cycle, it was super fun, and didn't feel like it lengthened the game.
@@TheGameLocker Yes core set and the expansions. The game was also recommended by some websites like Polygon. That’s how I heard of it. Curious if you will get more views due to the sale.
@@snieves4 I've got a video about Top 35 tips for new players you might find helpful - it is a VERY challenging game, but it is absolutely surmountable :)
If i litteraly buy one of those decks, and one standalone campaign, use some proxy tokens, download rules for game i can basically play without core set?
Technically...it is possible. However, you'd have to manually keep track of your threat level, and resources/damage/progress. If you're already familiar with the game this could work, but if you're just starting out I think you'd do yourself a disservice by skipping the core set & Dark of Mirkwood quests, as these will really help you ease into learning the game before being dropped into one of the campaigns that will have many more mechanics and a lot more going on. I wouldn't start there as a new player.
Oh, how I love these videos. I thought I'd known all of the rules and complexities, but you show me what I've missed - amazing! Question, though: Part 2, at 16:00 you use the "Sentinel" keyword on Aragorn to have him defend an attack from an enemy engaged with another player. Did I miss the explanation of the "Sentinel" (and perhaps "Ranged") keywords before this point?
Hi there I’ve got a question, Can I assign additional attackers to an enemy even if only one of the attackers is needed to destroy the enemy card? This is so I can exploit Legolas effect. Thank you ! Great series by the at I’ve watched them all.
Never noticed the typo on "Foe Hammer" @ 43:34 ! "...delight in the killing of *hte* great lord of the cave." Where you disappeared to bud? We need dream chaser reviews, the repackaged saga stuff and the upcoming Erid Mithrin stuff! 🙏
Hi, I actually just got into solo board games lately and I came across lotr the card game in which I really got interested.. I am planning to get the revised core set soon and I am excited to start playing this.. trust me I have read the rule book online many times and watched a lot of videos too but these videos you made were the best, so easy to understand and get everything to my brain. Kudos to you!
