When Wilt came into the NBA he stood 7'1" in bare feet and weighed 259lbs. He could run a 4.6 forty and had a 40 inch vertical. He could handle the ball, pass and could score the bulk of his points off of fade away bank shots from 15 feet out. And he played 45 minutes per game his entire career. As a rookie he was the league's MVP and averaged 37 points and 27 rebounds. The league only had 8 teams and one of them was the Celtics. So he had to play a young Bill Russell at least 8 times. When his blocks were kept by a statistician he averaged nearly 9 a game. Today's NBA leaders average something in 30 minutes per game area, score 30 a game and get 12 rebounds a game. And that's with shooting 3 point shots. The highest shot blocker is averaging 2 a game.

What an absolutely stupid comment. You would have to be over 80 years old to have watched that man's whole whole career. And there's no way you could have. Did that. Because games weren't televised back then. Joker would avg 40 ppg 12 assists and 20 re ounds back then. Any avg player today would be a hall of famer if he played in the 60's

The average height of men was a couple of inches shorter back then. Being that Wilt was 7'1" it's like someone today about 7'3 or 7'4 beating everyone down for a fast break! People today don't appreciate how good some of the old time superstars were!

This comment shows your lack of awareness of the history of the game. In that time if you got your hand even close to the side of the ball it was called a carry. They dribbled that way because the game was called that way. I came up playing MS ball in the early 80s. We could get onto the side of the ball a couple of inches, but if you curled your wrist/arm it was automatically called a carry. Today's "great" ball handlers are carrying the ball every dribble by the standards of that day. Heck 3/4 of the time when a player today catches the ball they walk by the standards of the 70s and 80s, and those standards were different from the 60s, and 50s. Players today aren't really much better, but more so the game is called and played different.

@@bryansimmons3723 Very good comment. It also applies to how the game is officiated in the post for big men. Wilt is always compared to Shaq who himself was physically dominant but he was allowed to lower his shoulder into the defenders as he backed them down in the paint. That was not allowed in Wilts time which is why he developed the finger roll, a step back fade away jumper from 15-18 feet, a hook shot etc.

@UlricSchnellock
@UlricSchnellock 11 месяцев назад
The Kansas Jayhawks actually wore red (crimson) as their road uniforms until the late 1960s. A lot of people don't realize this because much of that prior footage is in black and white. Dr Phog Allen liked red, and thought it made his team look faster and more aggressive. Many current fans do not like red alternates being worn because the team did that in the 1986 Final Four. Danny had a terrible game and Archie blew out a knee...people started calling them "bad luck"....kinda like the blue Dallas Cowboys jerseys. Furthermore, during the Roy Williams years (1988-2003), the team never wore red because Roy hated red, said it reminded him of NC State. Today, it's an occasional alternate. That's probably more than you ever wanted to know about KU uniforms.

And oh by the way he did go on to be a professional and win a couple of championships in the NBA and set multiple records that no one will ever reach. The Big Dipper Wilt the stilt Chamberlain. @@vaughnmiller4371 yea he could be the GOAT! And it’s a team game. He may have not had good players around him at Kansas but he sure did when he was with the Lakers and I think he won one there! Kareem could also be considered the Goat! Top 3 in Scoring, rebounds and blocks. Only 6 time league MVP.Only 3 time college Player of the year. Led his high school to 3 straight championship. Led UCLA to 3 straight championships. won 6 NBA titles and played in 10. The Bucks won 27 games the year before drafting Kareem and 56 games his rookie year. So if the criteria to be the goat is rings,stats,MVPs or whatever … Kareem is on that short list for sure. Wilt? Not so sure
@InvisibilityG
@InvisibilityG 10 месяцев назад
Try comparing the two athletically and you’ll eat your own words. Wilt was a specimen that even Kareem couldn’t dream of being. Kareem never ran a 10.2 100 Meter, Benched 500 pounds, Nor did he ever touch the top of the backboard. With you being such a Kareem Lover you would think you’d have more respect for the Game then criticize the ones that came before Kareem. Go read a little more would ya. Not putting Wilt Chamberlain in the goat conversation when they changed the rules for both players? Let me remind you Kareem never got close to 100 points and was drafted less than 15 years afterwards.
@InvisibilityG
@InvisibilityG 10 месяцев назад
You can potentially argue the hook shot and the offensive ability of Kareem over Wilt all you want. But as you said it’s a team game. Myself, and I’m sure several others would take Wilt over Kareem any day of the week as far as building a team goes. As far as being a Pure athlete no one besides Lebron and Jordan can compare. Proofs in the pudding, Hell I will prove it. Take rare grainy highlights of a Young Chamberlain for Instance then to bucks highlights of Abdul-Jabbar to compare and contrast. It’s not rocket science who’s more dominant. Wilt was shot blocking “the Hook” at age 38 when there was only a handful of players that ever blocked his hook shot throughout Kareem’s whole career… Lastly it may be speculation but I’ve also got a feeling Had their draft years been reversed when they came into the league vice versa you’d have 100% of Wilts games on tape instead of roughly 40%. You’ve gotta ask yourself how many phenomenal plays were lost in time because of a camera not being in the building throughout Wits career. And you’ve also gotta ask yourself if they were both dropped into todays game who would have the more profound impact in the league especially with all of the rule changes. Had they laced up in their primes in any era Kareem may not have walked onto the basketball court against the Big Dipper.

Whats a tragedy is that black and white film similar to this is used to defame this legend because his detractors say these recordings in black and white are indicators of the weakness of his opposition in the nba.... These are not adults playing nba basketball, in wilts era the average height in the nba was 6 foot 5 inches....without footwear....thats in line with any era in basketball....the centers in wilts era averaged 6 feet 10 inches.... Most people in wilts era and later in todays modern game would accept calling a modern nba player of close to seven foot tall a seven footer....
