What show is this? It looks and sounds like LATE 92 or early 93...like one of the Atlanta shows they did. Definitely before Siamese Dream really took off
Just remember, when you were having your experience as a young person with this music, there were older people who scoffed and said “kids these days don’t have anything like (whatever band they were into)”. The kids today who you think have no idea what good music is are making their memories now. Let them ❤
This era was , to me the top of their powers as a band. On SD every song was epic. All these performances from this time were incredible. This is Smashing Pimpkins, the greatest band in the world at this time.
Wow - don't know how I haven't seen this before. Melissa Auf der Maur really gets to shine. Love how grateful Billy is for the audience at the end. I've noticed over the last few years he seems to have become more humble at his shows and truly expresses gratitude for the fans.
Billy's voice is so raw at 2:11. In the nine times I've seen him live (either with or without the rest of the band), I don't think I've heard his voice quite like this.
Oh my fuck, I've been looking for this version for years!! And I finally found it! I hated it when I first heard it but now it's one of my favorite versions of Ava Adore. I don't know whether it's the blatant sarcasm in some parts, the uninhibited raucousness, anyway it's epic!
“I love my mom” written across the top of his guitar. Made me get teary eyed! Omg. Such a great song and awesome guitar talent. Billy was/is a musical genius. 💫✨
I was driving home to see my family and brought a friend of a friend to see his girlfriend that lived nearby (a 3 hour drive) First time spending time with him. I let him listen to the radio, while I had my air pod in. Eventually he asked what I was listening to. I told him , smashing pumpkins, thinking he probably never heard of them. He perked up and said play mayonnaise. I gladly did. We jammed the whole way. He became my best friend for the next year. We both moved to different cities and eventually lost contact with each other.I recently found out he passed away. RIP Marcus. Hoping you’re hearing this song in heaven. Save a spot for me.
Billy Corgan truly has an amazing voice. One of those that cannot be duplicated. So glad hes one that made it through those 90s Alternative years & still going🤘
I love watching their old appearances and interviews bc Corgan's miserableness and the horrible band dynamics create the most fascinating people watching stuff ever. The psychology of this appearance for example - Corgan 'knew' Regis and Kathy Lee, had appeared solo on their show before. They'd been charmed by him. Bc they'd seen him alone. He can work when interviewed alone, he can charm bc you don't realize what he is. Here they see him w his bandmates and they understand quickly what he is by him constantly talking, never letting them talk or letting attention go to them, and their body language around him. Also by his having brought to the show a song re-arranged in such a way that they have little to do (tho he does at least let D'arcy have backup vocals). I think they quickly reappraised him in this new context and didn't like him so much. That's when Kathy Lee generously draws D'arcy into the convo by mentioning going shopping w her, and then Regis takes a shot at Corgan by drawing attention to his baldness. No band has ever been better cringe television.
Was 13, a smidge too young for the concert. My 7th grade history teacher got to go see them in Austin. I was dishappy. BUT saw them in '96! Garbage opened. I might be old now?
love the pumpkins but the album version always sounds better than when they play live. I think this is the best live version ive seen of this song. this is my favorite pumpkin song. has anyone seen a better live version?
My favourite Pumpkins song too. Since discovering this version over a decade ago, I've searched for other live versions to top it. Still haven't found one. Still so very thankful this was ever recorded.
