Thanks for this great video! The way I see it, every place has its pros and cons. Some say the Salton Sea is the last place they'd want to live, for others the last place they'd want to live is any city in the world, where people are murdered and exposed to all kinds of toxins. We're all gonna die of something, might as well enjoy the ride on the way. I suspect the toxic dust problem cannot be ignored as it will start to affect the entire SoCal area and then something will HAVE TO be done about it. I feel for all the children and seniors with respiratory issues.I wonder if there is some kind of filtration system they could fit into their homes? If the Lithium prospects come true, then hopefully that will provide the California government enough revenue to give to Mexico for the "Sea to Sea" canal from the Sea of Cortez. The Sea to Sea canal makes so much sense as it is all down hill and it would provide more economy for the Mexican side with the canal creating resort towns etc.. The dust problem would be mitigated. Win-Win 🤞😀🤞
I went to Silver Lake for the first time this morning but watched this special documentary about a year ago. I grew up in Chantilly. I am close to the Dawley family who still own the farmhouse off Route 15 in Haymarket and spent time there in the 90s. Haymarket has changed so, so much since the 90s. I wish I had the privilege of going to Mountain View Campground at Silver Lake. Thank you for sharing this special video - it's very touching.
One overlooked solution is pump storage between the Salton Sea and Pacific Ocean in California. Pump water out of the Salton Sea at night using geothermal energy and produce hydroelectric power during the day by adding Pacific ocean water to the Salton Sea. The surface area of the Salton sea is 343 square miles. There is a 225 feet of elevation difference between the Salton Sea and Pacific Ocean. They have already bored a hole in the mountain between the imperial valley and San Diego to transport fresh water. They could drill another one for this battery storage idea. Another advantage is you effectively reduce the high salinity of the Salton Sea while improving air quality of the imperial valley by covering the entire dry lake bed.
*_Hello Alan Family.... I like the camping ground location that you have chosen, apart from having recommendation value, of course the facilities and views will also make you not get bored of camping at this location..... Greetings to meet me, Rudy Tutorial Outdoor from Indonesia_* ⛰🏕💯👌👍👏🤝🙏
I think the Salton Sea was caused by a man made error while constructing an irrigation canal for the crops in the Imperial Valley. I don’t know how you can reduce the level of salt in the water. Millions of years ago that whole area was ocean. Isn’t that where the salt in the water came from? The Shore is lined with dead fish that can’t survive in such a salty environment. I think any plan to restore this “Sea” is a waste of money and time!
I helped Johnny Johnson tenn bar at Helen's in 1972 after returning home from the navy. It just makes you want to cry. I lived at salton sea beach with my uncle dale Philips.

Nice. I flew on "Nella" two weeks ago. A T-6 Texan originally flown by the WASP pilots in WW 2. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fuF-VQSIXOA.html
Since there are only 3-4 flying B-17s in the world now and they are all likely fixing to be grounded permanently by the FAA, did this one fly here or just taxy around? The real Memphis Bell will never fly again.
The B-17G "The Movie Memphis Belle" has had a long and interesting history since it came off the assembly line in 1944. 44-83546-A was delivered to the USAAF on 1/4/45 in Topeka, Kansas. From 1945 to 1954 it served first as a CB-17G transporting cargo and troops long before she became a movie star portraying her older sister.
I don't think pumping farm run off full of pesticides into the Salton Sea is going to solve this problem. (.. the communities surrounding the Salton Sea have high rates of childhood asthma (20-22.4%) - much higher than the California average of 14.5% ) It was created by accident and it's drying up naturally through evaporation. It's true there were a couple of floods ... Again, evaporation. Don't drink the water 🤣
It would be a good place to park the homeless. Let each one of them get a welfare or disability check, have an on-site doctor to prescribe their drugs of choice, and they'd want to go live in the homeless shangri-la instead of on our streets.
