Had a budy rip it up on a fan boat. The cops chased him around for an hour. They do not let us have too much fun on the river these days. All about the fish. Lol😂
My plane is deliberately very quiet. They didn’t move the first pass over. But I did get a little close on the last pass. Felt a little bad but I’m sure they’re ok:). I live just over the hill and they walk down to the lake on occasion And there’s a road right next to them. It’s not way out. But ya
You may have talked about this somewhere, but did you have a big bore 914 in this before the 915? If you did, was there something you didn’t like about it that made you change engines? Btw love your videos.
Hey fluffy! Ya I had 914 big bore. It was a great performer but there began to be little things that made me loose confidence. Carb float bowl dislodged, oil cooler fittings came off zero pressure just after take off they was exciting:). It was running hot. Since I fly in the mountains it was an easy call to swap. Plus the general feeling in the deep Comunity (the guys that build and fly theses planes a lot) was that the big bore is ticking time bomb. It was needed to get a high drag plane like SS up and around but with 915 out and now 916 it isn’t worth the danger. A lot of them have failed in the sky. A lot
I have a 914 BB with an edge EFI kit on my SuperSTOL. Overall I'm extremely happy with it coming from a 912 and the EFI has it running smooth. It's absolutely a different aircraft. But it does get hot climbing on summer days and I'll probably retire it early just to be on the safe side. There's no question I would go for the 915 if I could have afforded it. Apparently it's a trick to fit the 915 under the cowling as well. That was some of the speculative cost when I was originally thinking about it. @@hammitr
Total nightmare. Lol. Not bad shrunk up some maybe half? It’s kind of amazing the drone like aspect though. Every once in a while it might be worth it.
Ya man! I can not over state the benefits of getting in that circle of people. The planes, the training the environment and the connections. And I live 3k miles away. Towed my plane 3 times across the country:). Kick Billy in the nuts for me;)
@@otisoffroadchilders2550 the amount of grip and power you have on that climb are you going to try more and record it? you powered through that like it was nothin! i know for sure you can tackle just as long but steeper climb in that same terrain. for shits and grins its sooo fun!
I bought mine with a 912 big bore turbo that it was built with. Jim pecola and Steve Henry commissioned the motor from Ronnie smith at Mississippi light sport. It ripped but I wanted better dependability than you can get with a big bore. I live in the mountains. So I bought a new 915 and had Billy Payne put it in. He did the first a couple yrs ago in an Xl. Then Kris g did one in the short SS. Then mine. Now there’s a few. Call Billy Payne Just plane fun. He’s all the info you could ever need none that you don’t:). The SS with the 915 is a new plane. It finally has the power to live up to it’s true purpose as the dirtbike of the sky. It’s amazing!! Nothing less:). Mine got a little heavy 930lbs. But Billy can do better. Mine being a remodel, couldn’t do much.
Mine was 912 big bore turbo. 135 hp. In that video. Cruise was 87-92mph ish. I had Billy Payne put a new 915 in end of this winter. Now it goes whatever speed I want. 105/110mph at 6.5gph is a sweet spot. If I drop to 100 I get 5 gph. The 915 is amazing
Looks like a lot of fun , what do you use for plane to plane communications (frequencies or different radio?) or do you just use the local area channel?
Local frequencies always on monitor with 12345 with group coms if I’m with other planes. Keeps clutter down. Must have local if you only have a one channel set up.
Anything with leading edge slats like the superstol is going to fly slower before stall. The trade off however, is I’m usually at a higher angle of attack adding power to go slower. At that attitude visibility is an issue. But a slower landing speed means tighter spots. Adverse to that the cubs still do great with only a little more speed and better visibility. With the 915 I’m just as fast as his 180 hp carbon cub with less fuel burn.
6.3 @ 100 mph. But at 7 106mph I run a duc 4 blade flash 3 so the pitch of the prop has a lot to do with it. It’s pitched out a lot right now which give me speed but less efficient.
