I'm having a hard time understanding how to re-negotiate the travel money on extensions. Take the $500 example you used. Since they divide the travel stipend into two amounts, are you still making $250 at the end of your new extended contract and negotiating a $500 redistribution into your hourly wage at the same time? The most I've gotten is $25/week for 4-week extension.Looking back this seems kind of low.

And nothing happens to the recruiting company correct? Because I have heard some horror stories where the recruiter just said the traveler just needed to put down an address for the tax home to qualify and the traveler did not look into the tax home steps and did not make income there or pay for housing expenses there.
@Nomadicare
@Nomadicare Год назад
A lot of the immediate pain will come to the traveler, but the agency may get into some tax issues if they're doing this consistency.

Hi thank you for this video. I am a new traveler, duplicating expenses subject is so confusing. IRS website is not too specific. Would staying at a hotel on the days you work be considered duplicating expenses? Thank you
@Nomadicare
@Nomadicare Год назад
Yes and no, but definitely talk with a tax professional at nomadicare.com/tax. Hotels are typically more expensive than 90 day furnished rentals. If you're only traveling/staying there for days you're working, you may not be far enough from your tax home to qualify. So chat with a tax pro and get some solid advice here, even if you need to pay them for a tax home consult! (worth it to avoid big tax mistakes).

So Laura, I'm just starting to travel as an X-ray/MRI tech and am wondering if those stipends/allowances are given in the full amount to me. For example, if a Job offers $2300 per week and let's say the hourly rate is around $22. The rest of the lodging and meal allowances, are those a reimbursement only when I book hotels or housing? Is it a "use it or lose it" kind of allowance or do travelers get to keep all of it? Are they weekly allowances given weather I use them or not?
@Nomadicare
@Nomadicare Год назад
You get all of your housing/meal stipends and you're not required to spend it all, which is a big perk of travel healthcare! (Money from stipends are tax free as well).

Hey guys! Really appreciate yall making this podcast. It's insane how few people are filling this niche...I'm a PTA student graduating at the end of the year and am toying with the idea of doing travel for a couple of years after I graduate since I'm single and want to see all that I can (and make as much money as I can) before I settle down in any one place. BUT you guys are some of the only people that have given me info that has realistic, actionable facts that I can make use to help decide whether I want to go this route. Still undecided on where I want to go, but thank you for being the best resource I've found to help me in making this decision!!
@Nomadicare
@Nomadicare Год назад
Thank you so much for your kind words Jason! We try to create things I wish I had when I was traveling (actual helpful content and resources)! Your game plan is very common, travel for a few years after graduating (a perk only therapists have btw) and exploring the country! Traveling has many benefits other than money... typically we never escape the place we grew up in, getting out of your comfort zone (packing up your bags and living in a new place) typically leads to becoming an overall more rounded/experienced person! We're here for you when you take that leap, until then have a great final year in school!

Might Covid-19 vaccine mandates go away for travelers as the Covid public health emergency is formally set to end in May?
@Nomadicare
@Nomadicare Год назад
Great question! I don't know what will happen- they very well could end the vaccine mandates. However, because the market is slowing down a little, hospitals and facilities might still require the vaccine of their travelers.

I have been on the Nomadicare site when first thought about traveling and plan to sign up when I get closer to when I want to travel. I think one of the best features is how much information you can get for free with out having to sign up. Was looking into traveling years ago when I was still new in my career and between hospitals. To this day, over 4-5years later, I still get multiple spam job offers in my email.
@Nomadicare
@Nomadicare Год назад
Thank you for your kind words!! I'm sorry you're getting spam from those other sites still-- that's the worst! We are definitely anti-spam. ha ha. We'll be adding and refining our free features this year which I'm so excited about for you all :)

Own a home with no mortgage, but I have taxes, insurance, HOA, maintenance, electric, water, landscaping, pool, and 'all the things' just no mortgage. I have not heard any answer to this.. it's technically not 'duplicating' expenses. I would say example... my 'tax home' expense is about 1k a month... and I go traveling and make about 1k a week stipend. So I will be getting 3k above my tax home expense. And if I only spend 1k in the travel 'home' I will make 3k a month above and beyond, so that 3k tax free money is still not taxable??? That is how I understood all of this was a benefit to traveling, correct?

I have a question! Ok so if a recruiter have to process ESMA for my emergency license does that reduce chance or negotiation? Because I assume processing ESMA cost them ?
@Nomadicare
@Nomadicare Год назад
Honestly not too familiar with ESMA and it’s impact on pay… but typically licensure costs are a ‘cost of doing business’ that staffing agencies account for.
