Stayed twice in the last two years. The place is great with great rooms and the biggest pool in Chiang Mai. The employees were rude and unprofessional. I had one tell me to leave the breakfast buffet because allegeldy I had not paid. Reception had mixed up my reservation with another guest. It took 15 minutes to correct their mistake but as sometimes in Thailand workers do not admit to makng a mistake and do not apologize. I then went back to the buffet and the employee let me eat but gave me the "what the hell look". Good hotel but lousy employees which will impact guest capacity in the future. Also, the bar is awful and did not see an actual bartender at the place.
Oh wow! That’s quite surprising. We found the staff very welcoming. That’s too bad that you had to go through that experience. I’d expect more than that for Shangri La. Hopefully it’s just a one off experience…
@thetranquiltraveller The General Mgr was also surprised when I sent an email. I have never gone back there. In Thailand it is hit and miss when it comes to customer service. Had a similar experience at the Marriot in Chiang Mai as well. Early morning is usually the worst time to expect great service in Thailand. Most Thai people are "not morning people". I know because I have lived in Thailand for over 7 years. This never happens in Singapor or even in Malaysia.
We stayed in February and paid $65 USD per night for an Oceanfront King Room. We upgraded upon check-in to the 2BR Suite for another $75 USD or so per night. Not sure what the rates are now since we booked in advance. Hope that helps!
Agreed! The coziness of the Qsuites (especially when travelling with a partner) really makes all the difference. Food and service were also top notch. Thanks for watching!
Peninsula Bangkok might be worth a visit in the future :) It is a bit more annoying (on the other side of the river so you need to wait for their boat) but awesome views!
That's the plan for next time!! Being on the ICONSIAM side doesn't hurt either :) So many good options on the Chao Phraya River... FS and MO just down the road are also on the list haha
Chiang Mai truly is splendid, the video and resort really captures the true beauty of Thailand which you will not find in the likes of Bangkok which is overly commercialised these days imo Nice capturing of the serenity man Hope you enjoyed the warmth before going back to the freezer!
