Welcome to my HVAC channel! I specialize in residential HVAC work, focusing on installations and services primarily in the San Gabriel Valley, California, and surrounding areas. My goal is to share my expertise by documenting real-life projects, offering helpful tips for those starting out in the industry, and showcasing the quality and precision that goes into each installation. Whether you’re an HVAC technician looking to exchange knowledge or a homeowner wanting to understand what a top-tier installation looks like, my channel is for you. Let’s learn, grow, and elevate the HVAC industry together!
@@theairconditioningguy The most common set up is a single head unit in a "back to back" set up with the outdoor unit. Its when a mutiple heads units running off the single external compressor are installed that the prices increase substantially. (Then again, this Australia where everything -cars, houses, food- costs more, we call it the "Australia Tax").
Sounds like Hawaii. Everything is expensive there too. Well, hope you're keeping cool. Everything I know about Australia is mostly through the learning or discovery channel. Seems like a tough place to live. What's your opinion?
Yeah I’m with you on easy calls. Had this happen. Breaker tripped. Used a megaohm meter and found compressor to be bad. Replaced compressor and not wire harness. Got a call back and found breaker tripped again. Replaced wire harness to compressor and never happened again. Now I will always replace that. Wish it came with compressor.
Check this out. Search on youtube: “Air-Conditioning, Circuit Sizing, NEC 2020 - [440.4(B)], (5min:33sec)” This is electrical code and what it says concerning circuit sizes (wire) and max fuse size (breaker)
Whenever i have to fish ext cams or any wire to the attic like u did. I tape a small loop of string on the end of my fish stick. Plus i add extra sticks hoping the stick will make it to a easier spot to grab it. Or i put a hook on a different stick to grab the loop & use it to pull the fish stick to me so i dont have to crawl in insulation towards the slanted roof. And throw those harbor freight sticks out after using them. U will get awful splinters from those sticks.
Im a small c-20 contractor and i see you mostly work alone how long does a 3zone mini split install take you to finish if you dont mind hard to find help that takes pride in their work anymore so i like to do jobs my self as well
Bro it would be great if you explain where you connect things as you go, i know when you are on the trade for years there are things that just come naturally to you but we dont know what things or fittings are even called. If you explain im sure your videos would be recommend by a lot of people to a lot of people because you actually do this for a living and not just DIY.
Well I mean if you have to change out the line set it's going to kind of be a chore. Just make sure you use some zip ties at the end so that no no humidity can enter in. AC service tech had a video about it. How they can create pinhole leaks in the middle of the line sets because of the insulation not being sealed at the end well enough
I've never heard of pinhole leaks in the middle of line sets here in LA. Do you think it depends on whether you live in an extremely humid climate? I'll look for that video you mentioned but if you get a second would you mind forwarding me the link? If RU-vid doesn't let you post it you can email me with it. Thank you for info 🙂👍
@@theairconditioningguy not sure how to put a link. But the video title is "copper line set tube corrosion and HVAC refrigerant leaks explained." That makes sense though. As far as the lack of humidity.
I was going to get back to you! 😁 I found the video and I believe that he said the major culprit was that white insulation that was causing that formicary copper corrosion. I appreciate the info though! This is how we improve our skill-set. Now I know not to buy the line set that has polyethylene insulation. He said the voc’s in it create an acid. It might also happen with the black type but he said the white one was the one he personally saw it happen with. Again, thank you for helping me out here. 🙂👍
On one of the mini splits you did your wall penetration to the left of the evaporator coil. Was it because you don’t want to go though the window beam header?
Yes. The only reason it's expensive is because when a person needs to replace their HVAC there's a license requirement to purchase refrigerant. Go heat pump and grow a tree for shade. HVAC is outta date and SUPER inefficient
@@theairconditioningguy absolutely. What am I to do on my days off? Yeah sometimes I party, but most of the time I'm ripping out the floor of my house, laying self leveler, and soldering plumbing. The economy doesn't support paying people for service every time my house needs an upgrade or repair. Sheetrock, self leveler, tiles. And all the codes are online so I can make sure to get exactly the right materials and install exactly to the expectations of the formal bodies.
@modernNeanderthal800 Wow! Sounds like you’re very handy. That’s good because owning a home requires a lot of upkeep. I also agree that the economy is not doing so well right now. RU-vid has helped me to make some repairs that I normally wouldn’t tackle like in plumbing and electrical but I would still hire a professional to do a big job. If that makes sense.
Imagine Jim Bergman doing a compressor replacement on a Walk in Cooler full of product where the original compressor was a victim of a burnout . Trying to get those 400 microns will take him a looooooong time ! So long that the product will probably go bad 🤷🏻♂️. Just saying 😅. Good video Juan good to see you back 😊
Oh right on. Wish you would have recorded it! 😀 I go through the attic when it makes more sense. Really depends on the situation. Next time I'll have to record a 5 zone mini split to one up you. 😁👍
@@theairconditioningguy very doubtful there is a trap inside the unit, i opened it years ago to change out the fan and the drain line is right there at the bottom of the pan.
If air is getting sucked in then it's the negative side. If it doesn't have a trap then it's probably building up extra water before it's heavy enough to drain.
We all make mistakes - I've made my fair share throughout my career. The important thing is that you learned and won't make this mistake again moving forward. Kudos on the video and keep up the good work!
what do you think of someone making a career change at 50 getting in to HVAC? what would be the best way to start? Already studying for the EPA Universal now and planning to knock that exam out in the next couple of weeks.
@@bgordo73 I'm not going to sugarcoat it, it's going to be tough if you going to install. I would suggest starting in maintenance and doing ride-alongs with service technicians if the company allows on the weekends. Another option would be to go into sales if you are into that.
@@theairconditioningguy yeah I would like to get in to maintenance/service or possibly commercial refrigeration. Not really looking to be an installer. Thanks!
As an 18 yo, I wish someone like this could take me under their wing and share their experience, like I can’t imagine how much of an advantage that would give me
Sadly tradesmen aren't so willing to pass down their trade . Especially since retirement age is almost 70 now. Don't want these young people taking their jobs before it's time for them to leave . Trade schools are the best bet , or job core is also good
@@jayyb1832 True. But not all tradesman think that way. I bumped in to one when I first started but the rest were more than willing to help me learn. One said " the more you learn the less I have to do" 😁
It cost ao much because of the tools, experiance, knowledge, traveling time.. Ive been in attics where im basiclly in a coffin at 100○ atleast 100 ft away from the exit. Definatly not easy
In order to crawl up under my house with the damn world record sized camel crickets and the damn dinner plate sized wolf spiders I legit start pumping my nuts up a good week prior and 5 cans of liquid courage, and every long shirt and pants I own, and lots of duct tape. All that any more usually for a trip not 20 to 30 feet underneath my house but it's one of those things you only do when you can't pay anyone else to brave the Camel cricket mob ties under the house.
Yeah I remember once I went into a small tunnel area in an attic where all you could do is army crawl. Was doing a cut in a lo and behold a wasp like my headlamp 😅 Couldn’t do much moving 😂
