A place for all your airbrush answers! My passion is airbrush, my goal is now to pass on what I have learned in the past 20 years to beginners and inform those who are considering getting into airbrushing so they can make an informed decision on the products they need to get started.
I am trying to paint a cigar tray made out of oak. I need a specific color that does not come in an airbrush paint. I am using a latex paint from lowes. Can that flow through the airbrush? I assume that it needs to be thinned, since it is water based, can I use water as a thinner? A few questions I know...lol. Any help would be appreciated.
The answer is yes and yes. An airbrush will spray any liquid that will flow through it. Water is you thinner. Thanks for the question, and thanks for watching.
Excellent tips and advice! Glad to have found your channel - (The tip about dragging the airbrush needle always forward alone has been a game-changer!) Any advice or tips on cleaning water-based media vs enamel/oil based media from the airbrush? Thanks!
@@DaveMendlen I feel comfortable with my water based createx paints to go without a mask. I am also in a garage and not a confined area. The safest way is always to wear a mask when spraying anything that can be inhaled.
Dave, that's not what I said. I told you what I do. But I also said mask should be worn when spraying anything that would produce Airborne particles that could be inhaled.
What is your suggestion when the entire airbrush is perfectly clean with no paint in it. IPA will run through the nozzles and out when I pull back the needle with no air. The needle is brand new, the cap is brand new haven't even touched paint yet. With the cap off it spray fine. You put the cap on, hand tighten only with o-ring on there, check for air leak with soapy water and there is non leak. Still no paint in the airbrush, just water or IPA and as soon as you push the button down it starts bubbling, then you pull back on the trigger and it bubbles like crazy. Again, if I remove the cap, liquid in the cup flows fine. If I leave this same cap on, turn off the air and use the trigger the liquid will will run out the tip. This is just crazy..
That is confusing. The only way to get bubbles is to obstruct the air flow. I would have to see a video on it. You can send one to dan@theairbrushgarage.com
Man i am happy to find your videos,i am third generarion sign painter and never picked up airbrush, trying to learn now, with my dad gone,i am happy that someone is as patient and giving as far as your experience and the will to give that to me so i can learn faster, dad used tell me "did you do your strokes today" when i first started forty some years ago, will be looking forward to your future videos thank you sooooo much
Patrick, it sounds like your dad was a wise man. It's all about practice, patience, and the want to do something. I am glad you like the channel, and I will be getting back to making more videos soon. Until then, I have somewhere around 145 videos you can check out. Thanks for watching.
That is a lot of paint considering the size of brush. I have to pull back on my trigger just a bit to much to get the paint to start flowing.I'm using illustration colors by Createx .Thinking I better try this must be very small amount of paint in nozzle . I'm using iwata micron cmc plus. Thought I had it clean hope this works. Thanks
Question. I'm trying to spray .008 flake/Glitter on small parts (size of a playing card). I've tried mixing the flake with 4050, 4030, 4004, and 6000. Spraying through Airbrushes with .5 .7 and .8 tips using a Tooty Compressor: 3-Liter Air Tank with Silent 1/6 HP Motor. They all just clog up. Not sure if this Paasche Airbrush is the solution, having a .8 tip. What's your thoughts/recommendations on this. I really need your help on this one Thanks.
You measure volume by drops and I like that approach for beginners like me. But as a picky "math guy", you are mixing up "ratios" with percentages. That is confusing especially when dealing with "regular" vs "airbrush" paints. 10 drops of reducer with 2 drops of paint is a ratio of 10:2 but a paint volume percentage of 16.6% (2 drops divided by total volume of 12 drops). 6 drops of paint with 10 drops reducer is 37.5% (6/16) NOT over 50% but a ratio of 10:6 (or 5:3). Airbrush paint manufacturers talk about adding 2-3 drops of reducer/thinner to their paint, and don't specify how many drops of paint that is added to. So that does not help me with avoiding a plugged brush. It seemed crazy that in order to get the paint to come out for a beginner I would actually be spraying a lot more reducer than paint, repeating washing and mixing over and over until the brush gets plugged requiring more disassembly of the brush to clean. And doing that with each type or brand or color seems tedious. There's got to be some better way.
Well 751, wow! That was a lot, lol. All I can say is that the biggest reason for a brush not to work is that the paint is too thick to get good flow. This is just one way to help those who are struggling help them find the sweet spot that will work for them. I really do appreciate the feedback and you taking the time to watch my videos.
Many years ago in the 70's I saw a 3 litre capri in black, I was 11 years old and what blew my mind was the art on the bonnet of a comanche Indian on a horse with his sqaw wow pity there was no mobile phones then to take a picture of it, I have never seen anything like it since, I was thinking how hard is it to be adequate at the basics.
A couple of problems with these box fans.. First is that they can most likely spark which is bad if you're spraying flammable solvents. The next thing is that they produce like almost no static pressure so you can hardly run them with a filter.
I'd love to have your view on 4021 vs 4011 for Wicked paints, for a beginner- what to watch out for, etc. I started with AutoAir/ Createx 20 years ago on bicycles, but have taken 15 years away from painting and bike building. Thanks!
Is there any such thing as a built-in moisture trap on a air compressor that’s non-removable??? Have you by any chance ever heard of something like that ???
Another thing that can be done use get into rhe settings in the computer...look for that material and you can modify how many passes of cutting you want, 1, 2, 3 etc and that way you don't have to worry about pressing the bottom againru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_vlCovPSveI.htmlsi=WvxGTA-FinMVu5MC
Thanks...I was doing this already ..I was hoping it would be a different material setting that I didn't know of ...thank you though for taking the time to help!
