Exactly. Beat production matters, flow and delivery matters, the way you piece together your words matters. That’s why 2001 is a hip-hop classic for example. Rappers like Dr.Dre and Tupac are not “genius lyricist” with mind blowing bars, but they are legends of the game for a reason.
My ex girlfriend hates this song when I play it in the bar. She’s a bartender and can’t do anything about it. Especially when I order my next drink with a smile on my face as this song plays.
I disagree. Hip-hop/Rap , is a mathematical pattern. It's being done on a specific timing. With poetry, there is no mathematical pattern. Words can be placed, anywhere you want them. It could be messy , & doesn't even have to rhyme. Math Hoffa , & the rest of the battle circuit, are poets, but Math can do both. However, his strength is in poetry.
Do you understand ? They wouldn't be able to spit those accapella bars over a hip-hop beat, because it doesn't fit, inside the mathematical patterns. It has too many words. Some add more wording to it, because the sentence doesn't make sense, & now it really doesn't fit .
Yeah, of course people aren’t putting free verse poetry in songs, because it’s arrhythmic and wouldn’t fit in a song format. Free verse isn’t the definition of petty though, it’s only a sub-genre.
