I watched the Carol Burnett show religiously so when I finally saw the real "Gone with the Wind" I couldn't take it seriously because I kept recalling CB's "Went with the Wind". It was a wonderful show and I'm sorry there will never be another like it. Thanks for posting this.
He did not forget to pay in the restraunt. He forgot his wallet, his billfold at the house. He sent his ungrateful kids to go get the money which they did. But the kids took the money and spent it for themselves. Al and Peggy finally figured that out and then it was up to them to pay the bill without any money.
If you've never seen the movie, you won't understand the curtain rod in the dress! I watched this skit LIVE on her show, and I HOWLED when she showed up with that curtain rod dress.
To understand the curtains scene, you have to understand the movie this is a parody of. In the original movie, “Gone with the Wind,” the woman needed a dress, and had nothing to make it with. Do she used the curtains. It was not played with humor. In this parody, she does the same thing, but has the curtain rod across her shoulders. The movie was still in the consciousness of the public, so they understood the joke.
