12:06 It's actually called Orbeez there are usually several of them together of all different colors. They CAN be a toy, but they also serve a functional purpose. Since they hold a LOT of water, you can mix them into or put them under the soil in a plant pot to help the plant to stay hydrated longer after watering. They are especially helpful for people who take a lot of vacations or go on a lot of business trips, or for people who's job keeps them away from home for long periods.
8:06 Unless it's marked as such, I don't think that pencil sharpener is over 100 years old. Jewel Tea was selling those back in the 70s at the height of the colonial craze. They had a grandfather clock, a coffee grinder, a victrola, and a Jewel Tea truck. There were probably others, but those were the ones I remember. My father-in-law sold Jewel Tea back then, and I think those were handed out as premiums for buying a certain ammount of merchandise.
0:05:50 giant needle for running a cord through a gathered large net that is too big to roll up/unroll. They're easier to work on when they're baled because you can simply unstack it from one side and back up on the other like a stack of fanfold printer paper. Such a baling tool would also be used on sticks and other things but wouldn't be decorated with a watchdog and a fish.
The sense of smell is insanely powerful to bring back memories If I smell the starch (sizing) in new clothes I'm transported back to 1962 when I was in the Naval issue warehouse in San Diego receiving my first issue as a Naval recruit. The sell was so strong due to the tons of new clothes and uniforms it lasts to this day.
1:15 I have an organ identical to the one behind this gold chair in my living room. It originally belonged to my mother-in-law, and belongs to my granddaughter now.
No matter how lovely the vintage upholstered furniture is, you need to check carefully to find out what the padding is under the covers. If it's foam rubber that's not labelled as firetardant, it could be a major risk. Not just because it's more flammable, but because older products give off dense, highly poisonous smoke when they burn. The smoke can kill you, in a fire you'd otherwise survive.
I personally wouldn't like to get sof furnishings eg sofas from the side of the road as I would need to spray them in case they had bugs, flea infestation etc. Also I wouldn't be able to know the difference between a genuine label bag and a good fake...saying that if I liked it I would buy it!
In the Nature Conservation class in High School one question on the test was "What do you call someone who looks for water using a forked Stick ? I wrote "very Thirsty ". The teacher smiled. The answer is a Douser. No he didn't give me credit.
3:36 Basement Light Noooooooo This is not so simple! I would bet money that someone who lived there before used the basement as their "dark room". No windows would make the perfect place to develop photographs in chemical baths without light pollution. (They would have done just like movies where they use dim red light bulbs only.) SOOOOO... That indicator light was to inform the rest of the household; "DO NOT OPEN THIS DAMN DOOR AND RUIN ALL MY PHOTOS!!" "If the light is off, no worries." I knew someone whose grandparents house had something similar for this exact reason. Lots of love!
I'm guessing that last one means that that elevator doesn't take one to the parking garage? (Maybe). ??? "Open The Door Before Entering." Were people previously teleporting in? What a nuisance.
