My fish had gotten used to fasting a bit already with a few shorter ones, and they were easily able to fast for 20 days with no issues. I know they are getting some natural food from their tanks as well, so it’s not a true fast. Also lowering the temperature can help lower metabolism so they require less food while away as long as it’s still in the accepted range for that fish.

Not sure if you'll see this comment since it's an old video but I have a 3.7 gallon nano with this exact same filter. I have put my own sponge and filter floss in it. Really hope you respond since you are very knowledgeable. Thank you.
@aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto

@@lairddunham3692 I know longer have this aquarium setup, but I still use similar filter systems. Cleaning the sponge by simply wringing it out every few months is really all you need to do. This will keep the flow clear and strong.

I have 14 of these guys in my cherry shrimp tank, but you wouldn’t know it, they hide constantly! I have even added floating plants to try and make them feel more comfortable. It’s been two weeks now. Water parameters are heading towards a neutral PH, as that is what I have read they prefer, I have botanicals in the tank, lots of live plants and moss, and there are no predators, only hundreds of cherry shrimp. I feed live baby brine shrimp to them, and they barely come out to eat! Shy is an understatement 😂 I tested the water they were in when I bought them, and it matched my aquariums PH, which was quite alkaline, I was a little shocked that the store didn’t keep them in a neutral PH to be honest, because that’s what they prefer 🤷‍♀️
