Guys great insight this week . Just to say I am restricted by Betfair Sportsbook who hardly ever used and if did max bet was £20 I tried to place an Ante Post bet on last years Grand N on Roi Mage £5 win at 5/1 I was told no you are only allowed £1.25 . I enquired why “ your account is restricted “ but why I asked again we don’t have to give reason for our actions ,
What is making the disqualification issue so complex is the authorities are trying to deal with two very subjective problems in quite a short time frame. So in my opinion a horse wins a race and the best video evidence available to the stewards on the day shows that the winner faces disqualification. So the bookmakers pay out on the first past the post. Secondly the newly promoted winner is also paid out as a winner on the day. That would mean that every punter in the whole of the United Kingdom and Ireland will be paid out and that instantly solves one half of the problem. Then at the same time refer the incident to the HRB at which the original winners connections can put their case to see if there are grounds to not lose the first place prize money and at the same time the jockey having a lesser penalty for overuse of the whip. Additionally it does give more time for reviewing the evidence and allow additional new evidence which may not have been available on the day.
What is the negative of 10,000 young people going through the door one day a year on a bad card were there would be a couple of hundred if not , if only 5 percent of the crowds ever go racing again it’s still more then if the day wasn’t on , us racing fans find a way to put any positive to a negative ,
Calvin is well pissed , ok , nothing wrong with letting ones guard down due to good times due to alcohol, just don't take anyone seriously when clearly clouded , it's more emotionally replied than constructively replied .
Great podcast lads,do you want to be negative/ gloomy you obviously don't.But are you being real no head in the sand stuff telling it how it is.There are certain people in racing that are deluded not realising that this sport could be gone soon within five years that is a real possibility.
Black market propaganda is absolute nonsense. Who on earth would risk punting descent money to totally unregulated entities its hard enough now to get money out of legal bookies. I am a addicted gambler desperate to do my bollocks but Not a chance in hell I’d do it to the black market. Bookies have got away with unbridled greed for so long and that is the sole reason for the state of the industry.
Original intention of music nights was to get people in and convert them to racing fans (eventually). Didn't quite work but great money spinner for racecourses.
Surely the point is that punters support racing and they need to be dealt with fairly and given the opportunity to win. The tote model overseas provides this. I spent 12 years in Japan. No punter turned away, all winning punters welcome, £2 to get in to the 100,000 attendee Japan Cup, bands after racing, catering second to none AND racing the best in the world. Stop filling your pockets and address the crux issues. Bookies screw racing and the punters. Media people stand up and be counted and start speaking and printing the truth. W****** 18:50
All this bollocks of putting bands on to draw people to the racing is ridiculous. What they need to do is get people who actually follow racing every day and fund the sport to go racing more These students are never going to be interested in racing why don't they catter too the people who are?
Cheers to tony for the candy mention.i regularly do e/w doubles at big prices. Backed it in single at 28/1+with bopedro+fresh. The column suits me- take from the article what you want. You are adults.
Well i have been gambling for 34 years and iam in my mid fifties now and i know who the blogger is but i was clueless until today as to who Hugh Cahill is.Everybody seems to have the answers as to whats best for horse racing these days and all for changing this and that. For me you can change Cheltenham Festival as much as you want and make more races handicaps and i wont touch them with a barge pole. The only people that 20 plus runner handicaps favour is the bookies and everyone seems to be more about making the bookies richer and sod the punters. Why the bookies make most there profit these days on online slots and casino games if your daft enough to play them.I had backed Fact Or File last year antepost at double figure prices and didnt give a toss if there were only 5 runners come the start of the Brown Advisary,as a antepost punter i back horses in the open races at the festival and spend very little on the handicaps where the odds are not in my favour. All this talk of small fields and uncompetitive races, what next we changing the Champion Hurdle because no one wants to see Constitution Hill take on Lossie Mouth and Stateman? You can get a small field competitive quality race without having 20 plus runners in it.Its all a load of bollocks,Cheltenham Festival races didnt need changing the price did because i for one wont be going and paying £7.80 for a pint of guinness now when i can get it in my local for £3.50 surrounded by many good quality tv screens to watch the festival on.
These podcasts are so negative. Much of the time is spent with them telling us that bookmaking, punting and the racing industry is doomed. How about spending a bit more time talking about the horses?
Perhaps they can come across as negative at times but warts and all, I'd say it's a good listen. They cover a wide range of issues and for some of the more serious issues, I'd rather listen to genuine views and opinions than one liners.
@@gurney2931 Point taken, but that AK guy just constantly moans. Gives the impression that he'd be better off financially if he had a job packing shelves in Tesco.
Sky sports is a subscription model based off the wrong type of control i.e - Rupert Murdochs of the world vs decentralised free market. backwards/archaic view to ban things nowadays & we need less governing not more ffs
very interesting chat especially the healthy ding dong regarding slots - one believes in decentralisation & free markets, the other total control & consensus 🤦
Can anyone define a big shop bet now for me please ? In the main I’m a mug punter, I’m 40 ,I earn roughly 50 k a year in full time employment and all my savings are shares in the company for my pension .I’ve always liked a big punt and increase my stakes when I’m rolling but I’m lost now to how much I would be allowed to stake considering my financial status ? Nanny state is becoming intolerable.
AK saying Aintree racing is better than Cheltenham is nonsense Cheltenham this year was disappointing was purely down to bad weather and we were robbed of decent clashes with Nicky Henderson's yard under a cloud. No Constitution Hill in the CH No Jonbon in the CC No Sir Gino in the Triumph No Shishkin in the Gold Cup Hence why they were all Mullins walkovers (except El Fabiolo fluffed his lines)
Cheltenham's biggest problem is the competitiveness of the racing, it has been getting worse for at least ten years - last year was dreadful. It seems to be related to the rise of the Mullins dominance, great for Willie but very bad for jumps racing as a whole. And I agree with the guys - way, way to much build-up, sick of hearing about it by the time March comes round, especially when you know the racing is going to be crap.
Have to disagree with AK re making races more competitive not being good for bookmakers. Obviously bookmakers are able to price up every runner with an in built margin but the lack of short priced horses increases the number of runners - bigger fields, bigger margins. Also punters are less likely to bet if there are short priced runners so they will field more if races are more competitive. Would bookies rather every jolly at Cheltenham was 1/5 or 5/1 ? Edit to add: Fair enough, he added more later, I'll forgive him.
I didn't think of that but you spot on. When you have a load of shows previewing and reviewing racing every week of the year, it's no wonder that the gloss is taken off pre Cheltenham reviews.
Great stuff guys. Something you touched on re Ladbroke bet, Interesting itv racing doesn't cover betting much but quite often will highlight large bets placed in the ring usually star sports.
Was at the Curragh the Sunday and had the best days racing I've ever had. Great weather, great racing, great facilities. Actually had a nice sit-down meal for the 1st time ever at a race meeting, won a nice few bob and so did the misus who has no interest in racing but is now asking when can we go again!?
U bookmakers couldn't lie straight in bed frightened of punter's that does some homework then u restrict the hell out of them and your traders are wankers
