My goal as a physician is excellent care in the treatment of spinal disorders with surgery. Every month I create a multidisciplinary educational conference reviewing topics related to spine. This website is a compilation of these conferences to be used as a resource to patients and students.

thank you so much for this! I had a T10 burst fracture and the doctors opinions are usually so contradictory, I heard 5 doctors in 3 countries and they have different stances on surgery and how much rest should I have... this helped me to connect all dots! Wish you the best
Hi just sat here watching this video. Scaring myself 😫, I'm having this surgery done to me in 2 days. Having a bilateral Lumbar Discectomy on both sides of my L5/S1. For those who have had it done. What's the pain like after pls? As the pain I'm having in my back and legs can be 7 to 10 pain barrier. And been using crutches at times.
We're really sorry but we have to cut back on your pain medication 😢 cause you know we don't want to lose our license and we wouldn't be able to support our lavish life styling anymore 😂,. Sorry sorry for you 🥵🥵
That poor lady I had my two fusion in 2015 and I just can't imagine what she's going through 😢 and yes you know the answer. Disk fusion causes ADJ disease
Yikes! I just had this done due to hardware failure, failed lumbar spinal fusion. They redid everything and they found loose hardware and a broken screw. They said it had gone rogue in my sacrum and they had to use a trap to get it out.
I had my surgery done in 2014, and the doctor here in Florida needs a little help because it is May 2024, and one doctor just caught this after others have had me do so many test after test, stretching my esophagus twice and more buy never found anything. I have lost so much weight so I hope they can fix this because I'm thinking of get a g-tub feeder. Looking down to swallow makes it worse for me to swallow and numerous down my left arm more than my right.
I have spilt spinal cord , ligated spinal cord and scoliosis. I am 23 years old. I had two surgeries two years ago. I'm very interested in this topic. I'm so glad I found this video.
@@spineconference Okay, thank you, doctor I have one important question, what are the causes of this condition, are there results that explain why it occurs? And is it hereditary? I apologize for the inconvenience
Thank you so so much doctor for this video because I have a 8. 7 center meter liver hemangioma and Iam having loss of weight and low spine pain and Iam to see the spine doctor in one week I feel so stiff and Iam in such pain I was a professional singer and drummer and pianist and now I can’t do much of anything right now I pray this doctor can figure this issue out for me sincerely, Carolann
How many times can you go in through the front I just had my second surgery and I am fused from c3 to c7 and I have chronic pain after I fear I need another revision I don't think it's fusing My C2 to c3 starting to bulge and I am scared to death of a surgery going in through the back of my neck
The fact that 3 hydrocodone a day is the maximum.. ridiculous . Medicaid handbook says insurance will cover 1080 every 90 days.. that’s 12 a day. Why is the DEA telling me I’m not in pain?
Buddy- you OK? I really miss the spine conferences. Some of the best on the internet- good mix of practical clinical practice and evidence based medicine…. I hope you’re OK-
wish you were here in Ky. I have an hemangioma in the T9. It has filled the area. Does this cause cancer? Can an hemangioma cause my wbc's to increase?
I am a 55 yr old female, Caucasian, recently presenting tingling and numbness and weakness in both hands and legs, more severe in the legs with sensation reduction. Imagining suggests OPLL with degenerative spondylosis C5-6 and C6-7 producing severe central canal narrowing at C6-7. This video is extremely informative, I thank you very much. I hope here in Australia our Public health Orthopedics know what they’re doing as this is my only pathway option.
What state are you in? I’m Aussie. White, Female, 50 at the time of surgery. I had a very similar surgery to this at Austin hospital (I’m from NSW but had this guy recommended to me so I went to VIC) Had this same surgery almost exactly. This was about 4 years ago. They did a brilliant job. If you haven’t had the surgery yet I could give you a name…. Oh if the OPLL is in your neck it’s a neurosurgery not orthopedics.
As a patient myself doing research on the subject, your patient has such a long OPLL, from the back seems to be the best option. I am wondering if the OPLL would get thicker as time goes by
I enjoyed this segment! My MRI shows on the L4-L5 “minor disc bulging with superimposed small right extraforaminal zone disc herniation. Mild right facet arthropathy. What does this mean? Is this why I’m in pain?? The L5-S1 showed “mild right facet arthropathy and ALL levels showed “minor” disc bulging….. Thank you please for feedback!
Good U say that in paramedian approach the myocutanous falp is retrated medially along with erector spinae ? But where to retract erector spinae muscle in case of midline incision and whats indication of midline incision ? Thanks
Great video! Can a hemangioma cause back spasms with certain movements? Could they put pressure on nerves that would cause severe back muscle spasms? Thank you
Excellent presentation … but I have a few questions regarding the shown technique … 1) where was the skin incision made ? 2) Did you use a tubal system ducking a tube on the L5 TP or ala of sacrum ? 3) Was the trajectory oblique or perpendicular ?
I"m glad you found it useful. A make a slight paramedial incision. I use the V Mueller shadowline blade retractors set, I feel that it is easier and I'm very familiar with them from anterior cervical surgery. The trajectory is perpendicular. I wish you the best of luck in all your future endeavors.
@@spineconference Thank you so much for the explanation . I’ll look up this retractor set. I am using the McCullough retractor. Or the tubes which are cumbersome in paramedian locations
The same disease and according to my doctor he says I shouldn't even walk fast not imagine running so my question is he wrong? By the way I also have heirnated discs
Great video and thank you for the information. We are currently going through the same thing with my son who is a 15 years old club level baseball player. Although the difference between him and the 16 years old soccer player above, my son has a full complete fracture of L4, unilateral if which makes it better. My question is, it is acute injury but complete fracture. I know some doctors I saw , complete fracture won't healed and rejoined , basically won't have boney healing. My another doc. said, there is a chance to be healed and rejoined because it is acute injury that there is edema in the area. So, we are trying hard to put my son in brace and stopped playing all the sports , currently we are in week 2 of bracing. What is your thoughts about complete fracture? Have you had a patient who had a complete unlateral fracture healed as boney union healing? Thank you
