I still need a few more chrome pieces to black out on the 4R. I’ll try to make a short video showing products I used and how I covered the 4R in the garage to minimize overspray. If you have room your garage you can definitely finish everything in a half a day. Items used: Big Plastic cover (Walmart) Blue tape (Walmart) Plastidip Matte black (Walmart) 2K Clear (Amazon) Instructions: Bag/cover car with clear plastic. Put blue tape about 1-2” away from chrome. Apply 4-6 coats of matte black Plastidip. Spray 2-3 coats of 2k Clear after 1-2 hours over the Plastidip. Wait a few hours to remove tape/plastic cover/bag and carefully remove the black around the chrome areas that were painted. I don’t believe I’ve spent more than $300 for all the material to black out all the chrome on my Limited 4R
I've got the same wheels on my Limited. 20x9.5 -12 offset with 275/55R20I don't think there is a better looking "aftermarket" wheel especially in the price range.
Nice! I can’t disagree with that, for the price range and being 40th Anniversary Edition 4Runner replica in 20” wheel is a good deal for me by keeping it OEM Plus looks.
Yes they will rub in the front but you can move the fender liner further to the front and that will likely remove any rubbing. I also have a 2.5” lift in the front to fit those tires. You may want to call some tire shops around to see if they will mount a 285/55R20 on a stock 20X7 wheel. Most tire shops won’t mount those tires due to the 7” wide wheel.
I still had to move the plastic fender liner at the bottom front to remove the little bit of rubbing on full lock reversing. I believe if you go with 285’s you may run into rubbing on body mount and that requires a body mount chop. I remember comparing the weight of the tires 285 to 275 and it’s significant unnecessary weight. I’m happy with my 275/60R20 which are almost 33’s
Yes, It will likely rub in the front at full lock reversing but you remove two screws on bottom of the fender liner and make a new hole for one screw to hold the liner in place and that should give you enough clearance to not rub at full lock reversing. There are additional factors with this set up I had running SpiderTrax 1.25” [31.75mm] spacers that brought the wheel positive offset from +15 to about -16 by adding the SpiderTrax wheel spacers. I no longer run that set up. I hace removed the spiderTrax spacers and wheels but kept the tires 275/60R20. I bought a new set of wheels from eBay. These new gloss black wheels are 40th Anniversary Edition Replicas in 20X9 with -12mm offset With same tire and it’s a much better ride
Yes, matte black Plastidip and 2K clear for the gloss finish. Both Plastidip/2K clear can be removed/peeled from parts if you wanted to go back to original chrome finish.
You’re welcome! I’m waiting for the weather to finally cool off here in Texas so I can finish blacking out a few more accents on the Blue 4Runner. I’ll try to make a short video on how to get the best results possible using Plastidip and 2K clear for a smooth gloss black finish on the parts. Thank you. 👍🏻
I got a set of 4 shocks and rear 1.5” springs for the Bilstein 5100. I did not need new A/M upper control arms since I kept the front lift under 3” I purchased a lifetime alignment/wheel balance/rotation from Firestone and have had them do multiple 4 wheel alignments with tire balance and rotations and it passes alignment Every time. TY
Yes , in my opinion. For the price around $500 for the pair of headlights compared to OEM yes absolutely better quality and looks. Now there is not many A/M headlights around $500 so it would be hard to compare them to the cost effective Morimoto or Alpharex headlights since those start around $800 and up to $1500.
I appreciate it! Thank you! There is one pigtail on the harness that does not connect. The rest of the connectors will match. I ended up not connecting the long “DRL” to the fuse box. Hope that helps.
@@jgreyes69 thanks man the OEM connection has 4 low beam, high beam , turn signal and side marker, does the adapter low and high beam connects to the OEM lines or the headlights? Thanks
I did the install a while back. I’ll pop the hood to check the headlight connections tomorrow and I can see what I did since all I remember is one pigtail/connector was left unplug. The connectors are basically used because the 2021+ have the low beam LED’s if I remember correctly. You can plug one connector at a time and confirm everything is plugged in correctly before you bolt everything back on.
@@jgreyes69 yeah the low beam is LEDs and high beam is halogen ,I bought alpharex 21adapter coz when I ordered it from Amazon it didn’t came with a pigtail. I’ll take the oem tomorrow and tried all the connections, thanks man
Not sure if you were able to figure out the connectors but I just posted a video on my channel showing how I ended up connecting the adapters and the connector I left unplugged. I’m guessing the Alpharex adapters should be similar to the VLAND. Hope that helps.
Bilstein 5100 Front shocks set to 2.5” Used same coils for the front Added .5” spacer to front strut Rear has 1.5” lift Bilstein coils. With rear shocks Bilstein 5100 Depending where you purchase your set The price will chance on the rear coil size you go with 1”, 1.5”, 2” If you are planning to set your front suspension to the highest at 2.5” then I would go with the 1.5” rear coils. If you plan to add weight like roof rack/camping gear/metal rear bumper then go with 2” rear coil. Hope that helps! Thank you!
You’re welcome. The Bilstein ride is superior to XREAS suspension that comes stock on the Limited 4Runner models. Smoother ride, cornering is better and a lot less nose dive when breaking.
No, of course not. If you get the Bilstein 5100 You can get the set for the front and rear shocks. For the front you will reuse the springs and for the rear you can get the new springs in 1” or 1.5” lift. I chose to go with the 1.5” spring for the rear. You also have the option for a 2” rear spring but that’s if you plan to add a lot of weight on top like new rack/tent/metal bumpers and inside the truck Like off road/overland/camping gear. You can shop around or wait for specials At your local 4Wheel shops/Amazon/eBay I paid around $750 almost two years ago For the 4 shocks and 1.5” rear springs. You can shop around for labor as well At your local body shop or mechanic shop I paid about $300 for labor to install front and rear suspension. Hope that helps. Thank you.
My apologies for the late reply. There is still a few sellers on eBay selling the running boards Sellers: iboard_auto grille 4you Try searching: APS Black Running Boards Style Fit 14-24 Toyota 4Runner Or APS Running Board Black 6" Fit Toyota 4Runner Thank you!
I bought them from Wheel Zone off eBay. Search wheel size 6x139.7 it will show you different options like -0mm offset, -12mm offset and you can choose the finish in gloss black or satin finish. I chose to go with gloss black and 12mm offset for both my green & blue 4Runners. Thank you!
@TheMentalVegetarian the lift is Bilstein 5100 set at the highest 2.5” for the front and I added a .5” spacer at the top of the strut. The rear has a Bilstein coil 1.5” lift and shocks that come with set. The wheels are 20X9 with a -12mm offset in gloss black paint finish. These are replicas for the wheels that came out for the 40th Anniversary 4Runner.

The top/upper Grille is from eBay/Amazon $75-$125 that comes with “TOYOTA” letters. I trimmed a little bit from the bottom of the grille so it can fit better then I had a body shop paint the grille gloss black. I appreciate it! Thank you! 👍🏻
@@73rscamaro I replaced the XREAS suspension with Bilstein 5100’s, 2.5” is the adjustable height on the shock that I went with. I also added a .5” strut spacer to get the 3” total in the front. Wheels are 40th Anniversary Replicas from Wheel Zone off eBay 20X9 Gloss Black finish -12mm offset. Tires are Nitto Ridge Grapplers 275/60R20. Thank you!
Upper grille between headlamps is the TRD Pro aftermarket you can find on eBay/Amazon. I had a body shop paint it gloss black. The rest of the front bumper is plastidip matte black with 2K clear face r a gloss finish. I didn’t use overlays for those parts. Thank you.
Yes I deleted the XREAS because one of the shocks started leaking. In my opinion the Bilstein 5100’s is a superior suspension and rides better than the XREAS.
Bilstein 5100 has 3 settings you can set it at stock height for the front and keep stock rear coils with new Bilstein rear shock. If you move the ring in the front shock to the highest setting you will get 2.5” lift and you will need a new Bilstein rear coil 1”-1.5” with the Bilstein rear shocks. My tires are almost 33”
I should’ve rolled down the window lol The Limited wheels look great just wished Toyota would makes them wider than 7” I ended up replacing the Limited wheels to 20x9 with -12mm offset
Love the look of all the blacked out chrome. Can you tell how you blacked it all out? I love that your handles look somewhat glossy. Point me to where you got the blackout stuffs!
I want your headlight setup, do they still come with start sequence? Did you have to put in your own leds? What fog lights are you running? I appreciate your time. Runner looks great!
My apologies for the late reply! Yes the VLAND headlamps and tail lamps come with start up sequence. The headlamps are plug & play with their own LED’s. The fog lights are stock LED’s for this 2022 model. I appreciate it! Thank you!
that looks nice.. I'm borderline trying to get limited or sequioa.. 1 kid at the moment but may got another 1 or two.. How is it working for you with this truck/car?
For the 2022 4Runner Limited models the Army green color came from factory. I believe Tundras also have the same Army Green color from the factory available.
