For many years the Goalkeeper has been the forgotten man of the team, banished to a lonely corner of the field to ‘work on his/her own’ or fetch the balls from behind the goal while everyone else has great craic getting coached and improving their game! More recently the goalkeeper’s role has significantly increased in importance, thankfully, but unfortunately too many of this rare breed of GAA archetype are still being left idle at training on pitches everywhere.....

I am unsure of weight of balls but surely if the are heavier than footballs ( soccer balls ) kicking ball at body from small distance very unhealthy? Lighter football to promote correct technique?
Your'e idiotic and uneducated if you think it's okay to drill a 400-420 gram football off a young person's body for reps, You're asking for injury. As a coach you have a responsibility to keep your player safe and healthy during your session. You warm-up your keeper with dynamic movements/stretches and warm them down with static stretches to avoid injury; why would smack a heavy ball off your keepers body? Stings for a second", You kick it too hard into the wrong place, take the wind out of your player or even worse hit the wrong part and too hard, damaged rip, nose, jaw etc..... Cop on and stop defending poor coaching ethic.
James O'Brien I’m a gk for both and when a soccer ball hits of the body it’s like a gust of wind and when a Gaelic ball hits ur body it’s a wake up call
Fair point. With the 'Skimming' dives we were focusing on attacking the bounce and more of a recovery type save. But overall this is just footage of a session done to give GKs some ideas of what to do, not preaching about technique. If they can get ideas & do them with better technique then we are happy 👍
Would be applicable to all ages really Barry with the exception maybe of the single-leg hurdle hops. Obviously the serving and intensity during the drills would depend on ability levels. Thanks.
I know this is a year ago but- Try not to think about it too much.i had the same problem and what I did I got me of my teammates to take shots at me without warning for around 10-20 mins before training started. I hope this helped!
Hi Brendan I am a fourteen year old goalkeeper from Monaghan and I need your advice on what I can to help with my kickouts I can't kick off a tee.And Do you know any drill that will help your handling when you are practising on your own? Thanks
I noticed he uses his hands a lot when getting up😂 I know this is a tutorial but he shud practice using his leg in the air to kick up👌great video though
conor mooney Good spot 👍 We were focusing on the handling aspect here so the rep finished once the ball was secured. We have a couple of other vids incorporating getting back to feet efficiently. Thanks for checking out 👍
Play goalkeeper for soccer but played a bit in goals for gaa. Always found the gaa tougher to predict where players gonna shoot but you guys got some good goals and saves here, gave the video a like☺👍
Andrew Power I have only trialed the prototype that was out a few years ago, haven’t tried the most recent one. Plus I didn’t use it consistently enough to give a proper review. The logic behind it seems good though plus I know the brains behind it, Gary Mathews, really knows his stuff
conor mooney Great idea! Absolutely👍 in the mean time check out the Facebook page as there were a couple of articles put up recently enough about penalties
Hi Brendan never got to thank you for the camp you held in John Mitchell’s I really enjoyed my 4 days with you and Kieran. I learned loads of tips and skills to improve my game. I’d love to see a penalty shootout video against Kieran. 🏐🏐🏐
The angle of the planting foot of the kicker is a good indication of whether the kick is going left or right , after that it's about body shape leaning back its going mid hig to high leaning forward its going low
