DIY audio power amplifiers and more. At BuildAudioAmps we create, develop and share our audio-electronics projects. We use both electronic test tools and real-world listening to check the quality of the built project. A project that passes our quality checks will eventually be shared with you.

Our goal is to document the build process and its end result of each project in a clear and informative way, by publishing it at www.buildaudioamps.com, our website, or on this channel as a presentation video.

We enjoy and are always impressed by the sound quality of our DIY audio amplifiers. We hope you will also find our videos useful and interesting.

We also encourage you to check out our website at www.buildaudioamps.com. There you can read comprehensive information about each of our built projects on audio power amps, preamps and other audio-related topics.

You can contact us at any time for request, comment or questions at support@buildaudioamps.com.

Thank you for your time!

Any religious fanatic will only see the limitations of other religions, and only the strengths of his own. Vinyl doesn't come even close to 44.1/16 in reproducing the ACTUAL sound of the master. There are so many limitations in both recording and playback of vinyl music, that it's silly to even compare the objective quality to digital. The fact that you like vinyl better is fine of course. Stating your opinion as fact, is not. Lot's of videos on the subject here on YouGulag. You should watch a few. Also, just for fun, digital music is not compressed. 44.1/16 is not a compression scheme. "Loudness" is a compression scheme. Learning why this is, will teach you a lot of interesting stuff about the physics of reproducing and listening to music. Very interesting subject imo.

LM49720 = LM4562 All others have an input resistance that is too small for me. WIMA MKP10 capacitors are much faster than MKS capacitors.

Is this the same circuit as 25-17 in the RCA Manual? Uses 12AX7 / 7025 tubes..

When this unit was in production, it was quite popular. Unless one intends to mass produce this, it would be far simpler to just use a chassis large enough for point to point wiring. Punch some holes for the sockets and transformer and build it in an hour. 7025 tubes are also good if resistance to microphonic effect is needed.

Note that this preamplifier was meant to have some type of buffering amp between it and the next stage, unless it was mounted on the system preamp chassis. The output is very high impedance, so the cable should be very short and low capacitance as possible. If I were designing this for stand alone use, I would add a 12ax7 buffer.
@buildaudioamps
@buildaudioamps 20 дней назад
Thank you. It was also mentioned and recommended in the circuit description of Circuit 29-16 in the RCA Tube Manual RC-30, pp. 702-703, except for the inclusion of a buffer.

Do you plan to design another one soon not using the Vin (pin-2) of lt1166? Thanks!!
@buildaudioamps
@buildaudioamps 26 дней назад
Thank you for your interesting comment. Pin2 is the input to a unity gain buffer that drives Pin3 (Vout), "a voltage control loop." I will go with LT's design to use that pin so that it auto-adjusts the bias of Q3 and Q4.
@RavindraDesai-c9q
@RavindraDesai-c9q 26 дней назад
@@buildaudioamps Thank you for your early reply. I was referring to fig.19 (pg. 13) in the application information section of the LT1166 datasheet. Avoiding use of the Vin (pin-2) seems to give a better performance for use as an audio amplifier. This is also highlighted in the book (pg. 315, Fig. 13.18) by Cordell. I am in process of building the above circuity you, and I hope you will take lead in building the suggested revision of this amplifier. Thanks!!
@buildaudioamps
@buildaudioamps 25 дней назад
@@RavindraDesai-c9q Thank you again for the comments. The 100w version that is shown in Fig. 19, page 13, on the LT1166 app seems to be a good future project. However, to start off, Project 75 has to be built first to show the capabilities of the LT1166 in its simplest application in controlling the bias. Then perhaps, if time allows, to a more complex project like the Fig. 19 version.

Build two PCAs (Printed Circuit Assembly) for a stereo system. The power supply should be able to handle two PCAs. At an exaggerated continuous 200Wrms into 8-ohm speaker requires about 5A of current.

It's possible to reduce the footprint of the PCA, however using standard TH components, it is difficult and not DIY-friendly. Using SMT parts will do it but it's not for everyone. Thanks for your comment!
