Wow , I think you could teach just about anything- I'm glad it's this ! Can sample-tank and the perl application export configs ? - are those shareable ? Would it be possible to make a sharable preconfigure for a "full" set of mallet percussion instruments "pre-customized" in the proper transpose to make it natural for players ?
Hello! What packs would you recommend if I have a malletstation for my middle school band? I mainly want the standard glock, xylo, marimba, vibe, chimes and Timpani?
I have notice that wth hitting my EM1 pads/bars wth no matter how mellow of a mallet, everytime I strike a key it makes such a thumping sound that drives me nuts, and it cannot be my Stand I do not believe as I have the very best poss. If anyone here has the same issue, can you tell me what you use to quiet the racket? If anyone here has a Malletkat, can you tell me if there is any differ?
The video was helpful, but I noticed that when you were saving something, the save bar was blue. When I tried to do the same, mine didn't light up blue, but stayed gray. Am I doing something wrong? I followed your steps and paused video as needed but it didn't seem to be saving. Any input would be helpful. Thanks
One observation that you’ve probably already discovered, but MIDI transpose is in half steps. For your octave shifts, you would need to transpose 12. I’m under the impression the mallet station has an octave shift function, which is another MIDI function most likely available in sample tank.
HELP!! I have a question. Does anyone use a Presonus audio-box go? I am using a windows laptop, and whenever I hook up the audio-box I get intermittent static. If I don't use it then I get a slight lag in sound production from my mallet board, but don't get any static. If anyone has dealt with this issue, I would really appreciate how you resolved your it. I have tried so many different options but haven't found one that totally removes the static. Would appreciate any feedback regarding my problem. It would not be very professional to be playing out and have this happen. Thanks
Hello there Kenyon! Thanks a lot for your super useful video. I downloaded SampleTank and bought the percussion package, but the marimba sounds it has are awful on the high register. Did you find a decent marimba sound anywhere else on the other packages? Thank you so much for your advice.
I already owned a Roland v drums amp for my son’s kit and use with my El Cajon processor, and it works perfectly. It’s already engineered for full range of percussion instrument sounds and the wedge design makes it perfect for directing sound at me and out of the pit. Lol. A nice keyboard amp will do the trick as well.
Love your videos. Just received my mallets station. I can't seem to get the vibraphone motor to speed up or slow down. Any help you could send me is appreciated. Thanks.
Very nice video!! Which mallets would you recommend using for the malletstation? Mine are doing a loud noise while hitting the keys. Thanks for your tutorial! :)
Hi Kenyon, it has been a year and a bit since you've posted these videos. I'm currently in the same exploration boat, trying to devise a plan as to how to get the MS to work with an iPad, for exactly the same reasons as you did. Have you, since the release of these videos, come across new and improved samples/apps for your current setup? Have changed anything in your setup as originally listed?
@@ChristopherIverson44 I think that will be the next step, but rather than individual resonators, more of a wooden resonating box (ala a glockenspiel). Tuning actual individual resonators would be difficult and expensive, so I think a resonating chamber would be a good compromise/next step!
The malletstation has note dampening. Though it is not ideal, I imagine using the note dampening to stop the extended release in the orchestra chimes sample would assist with stopping the sound from sustaining for so long. Informational video. I did just get an iPad to use the malletstation with as I have been having a lot of latency issues in using it with my dell laptop, and this cleared a few things up for me. Currently my plan is to try it with garage band, but I will add sample tank to my list of things to look at.
thank you! but .... whew!! like so many youtubers, you talk too fast for my brain! (just remembered - i could've tried it on a slower speed! next time, then!)
Wow!!! Thank you Kenyon!! I was just trying to figure out the issues pertaining to assigning midi channels and even more so how to split the keyboard for different instruments. Unfortunately, the documentation for mallettstation leaves a lot to be desired. You have filled in that gap. I was looking for exactly the same type of setup as you (keyboards, gongs, chimes, etc.) and you supplied the information I needed. Well done.
Can you share a bit about any velocity issues? I've seen some videos that demonstrate issues with different keys not producing consistent sound. I returned my malletkat and want to try a malletstation next so some perspective would be great.
If you go to the IK multimedia website, and select products, Apps, iOS apps, sample tank, then instruments, then more. Here you will see under each kit and more info. Tap that and the list of what is in each kit will drop down.
Honestly, I've only used it for one gig thus far and I used a set of medium Innovative vibe mallets. Since I was in a "house mix only" environment where the audience would only hear what coming out of the MS, I wanted a mallet I felt comfortable with that had a solid feel on the pads.
Great video! I have a malletkat as my controller. I'm fairly confused 1 week into it. Question: Will your EM1 work simply with your iPad and Sample Tank? Or is the computer necessary? It seems like the computer made things easier but not necessary.
Sorry for the slow reply! The computer is DEFINITELY needed for the set-up of the controller (pedal settings, channels, etc). After that, you shouldn't need it for a gig unless you're troubleshooting on the fly (so I kept it handy in my car just to be safe).
