It depends on what you are doing and what type of file you are doing it too. I've done so many but a 10 second old DV file being up sized to 720p and enhanced can take just 20 seconds. However, I actually upsized this entire video from 1080p to 4k before uploading because Camtasia only records and outputs my HD screen recording at 1080p and I wanted to show off the 4k goodness. That took about 3-4 hours to render. Everything else is somewhere in between. For example, upsizing a 6 second, 1080p clip to high quality 4k whilst slowing it 8x can take an hour or two. But it's worth it. The good thing about this software is you can stack your renders. Therefore, set one running and whilst it's doing its thing, you can work on and queue as many more as you like and then render them all overnight.
@@NickStubbs I don’t understand how camtasia fit into this. I guess I’m only interested in the 4K upscale and slow mo for pro use. Still seems like. Very slow process. What system are you using? Would it be better slowing down a 4K 50 clip than 1080?
Because to show Topaz in action, I had to use Camtasia for screen recording and I only use 1080 monitors. Therefore Camtasia only rendered 1080 hence the upsize. However, the opening clips were all original to show off the quality. I'll do another video after the beach motocross showing the process for slowing 4k 60fps video 16x whilst monitoring the rendering times. I may even do something before then...may even upsize it to 8k too 😉👍
And yes, slowing a 4k 50 clip would be better so I'll will be filming the motocross in 4k 60 and see how it goes. My PC is pretty powerful. Upgraded last year to top specs.
Hi Nick I really like the look of the X-AIRFLY Mono - very well demonstrated, but it seems the only place I can buy it is with your link, which is priced in $US. I am concerned that if it is sent from the US I will have to pay import duty. Do you have any information please?
Good point. I had to pay £15.50 to the UK and I can't see it for sale anywhere here. Might be worth looking at this very similar alternative on Amazon UK. I was using the AIRFLY all day yesterday and it's absolutely brilliant. When I wasn't using it (when flying my drone for example), it is already sturdy but within seconds, I had removed the central column portion and had the camera fixed to the much lower base for additional safety. Great bit of kit. IFOOTAGE Cobra 3 Monopod C180F,Carbon Fiber Monopod with Feet for Camera,DSLR,Minipod Base Tripod,Payload up to 17.6lbs/8KG,Max. Height 71inch/180cm amzn.eu/d/5o5Qu8t
Thank you. This was filmed before the release of the Mini 3 so the Mini 3 Pro was the only Mini 3 on the market at the time meaning using the word "Pro" wasn't so important.
Which firmware are you using? On 35 1.8 lumix it seems to be slow when close to the camera. I notice you tested walking up and stopping, but if you then lean forward and back I’m finding it sluggish in locking at 1.8. Would love to know if you ever find that?
Interesting, I'll have to check it out. Thanks for sharing. To be honest, in a lot of high end productions (movies, music videos etc) that I see where AF isn't perfect, it actually adds to the shot.
I watched the review again to refresh my memory and I still think it's pretty good. All depends on your creativity I guess. Read some of the comments for feedback from others and check other reviews but yes, if you set it up right, it can be a lot of fun.
Agreed. But sometimes on a shoot, I'm in a hurry and have to land, change filter and take off again with no time to reboot. Done it many times being careful with no issues after 4+ years of doing this. People just be careful if changing filters while drone is still on 👍
@@NickStubbs - It takes 20 seconds to reboot. No one is that busy/important. :) Would you recommend crossing a busy road wearing a blindfold .... just because no cars have hit you?
With all due respect, this is just a low light test as the title says. I'm going to do an audio test soon but thanks anyway. Edit: Just as a heads up, the audio is superb...used it at a recent wedding and I used original song (radio edit) for the video to help promote my son's friends' band 👍
@@NickStubbs Thanks for the upcoming audio test. It would be very helpful as there are only VIDEO tests on youtube and any single audio recording test, most particularly from the club, live music etc. Not talking about voice.
I've just used the Pocket 3 and Mic 2 at a wedding and the audio was incredible. Speech outside in the wind, no wind noise. Super loud cheering as the bride and groom entered reception, no clipping. Mic attached to registrar during ceremony, picked up all 3 voices clearly. Impressed!
@@NickStubbs For normal talking there would be no clipping. But here is my test for loudness relatively to Mic Gain settings: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pEKjQTVX4fQ.html
@@SergSpaceVery interesting. I'm going to go back and listen to the original audio from the mic 2 that I left on stage and compare it to the internal mic...
I think so. If you set AI Servo and then "subject tracking", you should be good. Remember to go to the AF Menu Tab - > AF5 - > Initial AF pt set for Face + Tracking and change that from AUTO to manual selection. Changing this setting allows you to place the AF area over your subject via the touchscreen which initiates subject tracking and you’ll see that the camera places a shapeshifting box around your subject and track it across the frame.
Wow, the Levels layer in photoshop is my favourite tool and I always had to open each photo in photoshop as I never thought you could do it Lightroom. I can't believe I didn't know you could adjust the histogram. Thank you very very much
make selection only wants to select the last window, right clicking and trying to add the rest to selection has a 10% chance of adding them and 90% of doing nothing. I donut understand *edit - fixed by holding control and highlighting all the windows
Good stuff Nick. In your scenario of Tracking a Bride/Father coming up the isle or Walking Bride/Groom. What settings would you may work best… Speed Sensitivity Mode (Zone, 1-Area, ?) Thanks for your take.
Cheers for commenting and good question. I would definitely commandeer a couple of family members to practice this with before a wedding but here's my take. They will be walking fairly slowly so you don't want the focus "hunting" as they walk. I would start at the default (middle) settings for both, I.e. not too fast or slow, and see if it keeps track. I think it should do as any minor focus transitions, if any, will be too slow to notice but if you do, slow them both down a notch and test again. I would only speed up if I was chasing kids around playing at the wedding or filming any closer but faster moving subjects. As for the mode/focus area, I would choose a custom size that fits both people in as they walk. Using the above should mean minimal hunting with both people in focus and to ensure that, I would use an aperture of around f5.6 if you are relatively close. Hope this helps 👍
@@NickStubbs Thanks. I’ve been using Zone Mode {although I don’t like the range being capped} Shooting between 16mm-24mm (gimbaled) so far but have not played with the speed or sensitivity yet. I really want to drop my 28-70 in the situation at certain locations I am shooting. Thanks for the content it definitely sparked a thought process for me.
I think it was just standard, normal, average. It was the 32 bit float that worked like a charm. Used the Mic 2 at a wedding on Saturday and the audio is spot on from the 32bit. No peaks during cheering/clapping etc. Love it!
@@NickStubbs But that means you've recorded audio simultaneously to microphone internal memory, moved WAV file from mic to computer and synchronized it with audio. Is that what you did? Because this is hoe 32 bit Floating would work.
Great overview, Nick. Thanks for addressing both photo and video features. I’ve had my S5ii for over a year now and I really appreciate Panasonic’s firmware updates.
Thanks Trini and no, the only clip that had any processing was the girl singing which was slightly brightened. Other than that, all straight out of camera.
Just curious if you’ve tried this with a mirrorless camera? I used to do this all the time with my canon dslr but once I switched to Sony mirrorless I can no longer flip my lens to achieve this effect. Any thoughts?
@@NickStubbs Thanks for checking! I think it has something to do with the sensor being so much closer. I've made a workaround with using extension tubes and also the Raynox DCR-250 Super Macro Snap-On Lens. But I really miss just flipping my 50 mm around!
Excellent review! My favorite part was at 2:12 seeing the light in what looked like a remake of the movie "Leon The Professional"! Keep up the great work! 👍🏾
Hi! Excellent camera and video for sure! I saw a few reviews of it but I have only one doubt. Is this a touch screen or screen with a buttons to control it? Thanks in advice!
@@NickStubbs thanks for quick answering, Im really fall in love with this camera, although I have dslr canon 77d and planning to move into mirrorless world, so I searched a lot and find this piece of treasure 😊
I used the "natural" profile for that shot. In fact, that's the profile I used for the majority of my time with the camera. It seemed to give great results off the bat, but still very editable. Sadly, I didn't have time to test VLOG but I'm sure by using that, along with more extensive grading, the image would have been even cleaner 👍
@@NickStubbs Coming from mostly drones & fpv, I found myself watching a tonne of videos on cameras over the course of a few months last year, particularly this one. Suddenly developed an interest in general videography and filmmaking not only by air. Got it for myself for my 40th, then did quite a few passion projects to practice right away with it and since then I’ve used it for work on some shoots too. Don’t want to spam/link anything in your comments, but I posted a short video I did of a burger joint opening night in December and really happy with how the camera did.👌
@@LowryDroneography-SteveJust watched it, nicely done sir! Lovely, clean footage. I was impressed with the low light video myself, even at 10,000 ISO. Great camera 👍
@@NickStubbs Nice one, appreciated! Yeah its so clean, that was all on the 50mm prime mostly at 4000 ISO I think (can’t fully remember!). Yeah your lowlight footage was so nice, its just very impressive and enjoyable to use too. Also if you shoot any fast panning shots in APSC mode, you should get a fairly improved rolling shutter performance over the full frame too. And it still looks so bloody good in APSC.
I wouldn't use this camera any more. The tech is so outdated and the image quality isn't up to scratch any more. Avoid. There are better cameras out there 👍
Thank you! This really helps. I took my 50mm lens off this weekend, because I couldn't keep the constant moving objects in focus. I bought a Canon 5d mark 2 second hand, because it had 3 lenses included for a great price. But then I've noticed the exceptional quality of the videos.
Thanks for the great video! I have a number of telescope mounts that I forget to replace batteries, and they leak. I will be installing the Energizer Lithium now.
