I knew Hal for nearly 40yrs before he passed. One of the best people you'd ever wanna have around. He lived a short ride away for many years. I was really sad when we moved him to Palm Springs. It just seemed so far away.
Apparently carmine appuce filmed this and was trying to buy the footage but they asked for too much money so he didnt get it and it may never come out or we have to wait years or decades now
Don, I have one of these kits my grandfather originally purchased. It wasn't until recently that I came across this video. I didn't know how special it was. My grandfather played in a Dixieland band in the 40's through the mid 80's. I am missing the large tom drum, as it must be somewhere in the family belongings. He also played the Trumpet.
Not the fastest, but I enjoyed the lil' ostinato business at the beginning of the vid. It was tight.. Shoulda' continued riding that wave, it was sounding good.😁 There was "a theme".
I know Steve Maxwell had Elvin’s 70’s yellow lacquer stop sign Gretsch which I think Charlie Watts bought but what happened to all his other Gretsch kits??? The first time I saw Elvin in 1971 he was playing his Gretsch stop sign badge kit 18,12,14, in Jade Green satin flame.
Please do a show about Hal's "DRUM BAND" where us musicians all had 2 small toms on our music stands & added drum beats & effects along with Hal's drumming ARTISTRY 😂😂😂
Don, I have one from this era and it’s awesome. Put two or three rivets in it and it’ll blow your mind! It’s been to the right of my main ride for almost 15 years now. Perfect sizzle/crash/ride/whatever cymbal.
