This was truly a joy to watch and listen to! Your handpan skills are the best! I hope to play this well one day myself… I got a D Kurd 10 for my birthday 18 days ago🎉
What an incredible instrument. The layout of the bottom notes corresponding to the top notes makes really sense. That would make it easy for me to play.
441 seems brighter with more activation and sustain 409 seems more mellow and direct in the notes 430 seems like a balanced and controlled sound. Are you still using 439?
You pretty much nailed it. I just think the other materials can be as balanced and controlled as the AISI 430. We've built them the same way, but each material can lead to different timbre explorations. Yes, we still have the AISI 439.
I love them all for different reasons. I agree with @1specialsoul on his assessment for the most part. For general stuff I would say 441. For songs where you don't want much sustain 430. If you want yes sustain, then 439.
I skipped around in the videos between all three grooves and had my head in my focal monitors and i literally cannot hear any noticeable difference...maybe you need to hear it in person and feel the vibrations too? I cannot tell them apart right now - they seem to have the same sustain and overall timbre, but I know they MUST sound different because theyre different alloys, no? I think maybe 439 has a tiny bit longer sustain? The colors certainly look different but that is the only easily distinguishable difference I am seeing/hearing
Maybe the difference is not so big watching the video. We did some blind tests and it was quite noticeable. Remember we built them the same way, each one can open different timbre possibilities depending on the building techniques.
Thanks for the experiment it really does make you focus more on every strike and each sound that rings out. To my ears 430 has a sharper attack, less sustain and more metallic (percussive), 439 has a warmer timbre, more bloom in the notes and the sustain is quite long with maybe a bit of crosstalk. For me 441 has the best balanced sound which feels like a combination of the other two. The notes are clear the chords are harmonious and sound seems more controlled and stable. I guess 441 it is then.👌👍😊
You nailed! That's very similar to what we think. Thanks for commenting. We like all of them and of course each material leads to different types of building and possible timbres.
