We are two young officers in the U.S. Navy who both graduated from the United States Naval Academy class of 2020.
Julia is a first-generation Chinese American immigrant who came to the states in 2012 at age 14.
Philip is a military brat who spent his childhood around the world in 6 different places.
We might have met at the same school, but our journeys were wildly different. We are both interested in economics, investing, real estate, travel, food, reading, and yet, we are so different.
We want to use this RU-vid channel as a way to share our experiences and to document our development as individuals and as a couple.
Thank you for this great video. My daughter is a junior. We don’t have JROTC here where we live in NY. So instead she is in civil air patrol. Do you know if there is a civil air patrol notation?
The ROTC and JROTC nominations are in the same bucket of noms, so it is a competition for candidates coming out of both HS and college. The exact number of available spots for ROTC/JROTC nominees is different every year, not specifically 200, and is not disclosed. Only Navy and Marine ROTC/JROTC units can nominate, not Army or Air Force. The unit commander makes the nomination using the form on the admissions website. I believe most units get to nominate one candidate each year, while ROTC/JROTC units that have earned distinction get to nominate up to three candidates each year. That being said, the admissions website encourages candidates to apply for nominations from all possible sources from which they are eligible, so if you’re in Navy or Marine Corps ROTC or JROTC you should absolutely ask your unit commander to nominate you!
Interesting. I’m a former sub nuke and HR officer and currently a professor. I wonder how the regs work regarding advanced certificates such as data science or ML, beyond the Masters level? We are building a certificate program that could be of benefit to fleet manpower/HR work. Best of luck to you both!
9+ hours a day minimum of studying was already pretty bad, hearing about a 2-4 hour test every single week officially killed any chance that I’ll join the program. My adhd cannot handle all that 😭
I remember the jump from the gangway to the jetty. On my first ship for 3 years 3months. It was also the ships end. Decommissioned. Hello old friends, i wish you all well.
Yah I was on a Nimitz class carrier. You know there are about 30 staterooms that are for "dignitaries" or visitors, and are almost always empty on a day to day basis. I KNEW that they are not serviced or checked up on. They had keycard locks on the doors, but that wont stop an electronics specialist (hhehe it's not gonna stop an AT). I used those rooms about a hundred times over the years to bang girls, as it was one of the few places on the boat where I could get privacy. I mean nobody ever found out, it was great. And just think, all the "elites" on that boat, all the chiefs, the officers, and even the captain were all INCELS while I was getting LAID left and right. It was quite a thrill to get away with than and an awesome privilege that I carved out for myself.
Thank you so much! I’m soon to be a sophomore and I am enrolled in NJROTC, so I’m glad this video mentioned that 😂. I really want to become a Naval Aviator and I feel like the Naval Academy is the perfect opportunity for that. However, I’m pretty lost on my journey but this video has really helped me. Thanks once again!
