Hey! My name is... most likely unpronounceable for you, so I go by Timor or Tim for short :) I've always had a passion for gaming, fantasy and sci-fi, though just in recent years did I re-discover my long lost love towards Dungeons and Dragons. It started softly, with some casual MTG, but crept up on me faster than I could have anticipated. As a relatively new GM I have a neophyte enthusiasm towards everything TTRPG now. And I love to share - as such, I want to share my enthusiasm with you! I play my games using modern tools, so you can expect a lot of videos that are aimed to help people out with stuff like mapping, creating notes, making mind-maps, using software to change your voice (soon) and others. I edit and create the videos myself, so it might take me some from one video to another. Currently I'm running a Wildemount Campaign.

Regarding reecap items, apparently they can adopt features from people they kill when they dye their caps in their blood. So perhaps a magical item based on that idea? Like a hidden feature of that armor that if it's stained with blood of a murderer you have killed you'll start adopting their features, kind of like how you mentioned changes during fey contracts. Don't tell the player why, just tell them that they've started changing while they're attuned with that armor and punish then if they don't follow that cursed new personality till something changes, like them un attuning or something. And it's not just personality features, but any feature of the murderer is potentially up for grabs, including racial features, special abilities etc. Perhaps if enough bloodetains are accumulated you could give the players a hint by changing the rarity of the armor. If they wash the blood away just remove the features till the next blood stains are added etc. But the blood stains *have* to be from a murderer, not from a random urchin or rat or whatever who has never killed before. The player killing someone innocent won't trigger this hidden feature. Features could include cool things like adding a dragonborns breath weapon attack too btw. Anything that the DM deems appropriate given the recaps lore and the murderer whose blood is the source of the stain and the story. It shouldn't be too OP, nor too upsetting to the player. If it changes their personality let them know that it's not permanent in OOC, but that they need to figure out why themselves. End of video: Regarding the Eladrin chainmail. Remember that it's also their nature to change a bit with the seasons. So you could have the resistance types change at times and still fit the theme. So perhaps keep the current list of residences, but occasionally switch a random one out with elemental protection depending on the season or players mood or the next planned encounter you as a DM are planning and worrying about being too hard or whatever. But only if they feed those hit dies.
7:54? Why not? Obviously a pixie won't be able to offer the same kind of deals as a arch fey... But I see no reason at all why not *every* fey, no matter how small xan enter a deal. The fey wild is inherently far more chaotic then the the nine hells. There's very little structure that enforces who can or can't enter a deal. That said, a pixies deal might be something small like pixie dust or passage through an area or guidance in return for something. I believe that it's still magically enforced due to the power of the fey wild itself, so the pixie doesn't *need* power to enforce the terms as its enforced by the nature of the fey wild itself rather rhen the power of say a devil lord or something like that. Does that make sense to you? So things like having a term for a memory or feeling or something would be within the power of anyone in the fey wild in my view. Meaning that bargaining away *anything* you don't want to lose no matter how weak you perceive someone is a jad idea. And it's a way for a fey to grow in power and nature I believe. A pixie could therefore in theory through deals become a arch fey with time through bargains I believe (it would take a *lot* of effort, and they could completely change nature in the process, personality, power, even species) 11:17 My understanding of the feywild is that ita nature isnso sensitive to emotions erc that *every* sentient being can shape the world around them. More powerful entities will shapena larger area and have a bigger impact, but it's a bit like background radiation from every little being, and the less background noise there is from other bigger entities the more room there is for the small guys ro change things themselves. And of course if there's many there the overall effect is the overlapping effect of all of them, with concentrations of the individuals nearest their own location. I'm thinking that's how brownie houses in mushrooms etc is even possible. Each little being shapes the world around them there, including the humans visiting. 12:02 Okay, if you don't *want* to offer interesting deals with every pixie or satyr that's perfectly fine, that's your style choice and DM approach. I just don't feel like it's a limitation in ability pr say, just a way to make things a little bit more efficient. 37:32 I feel like this is a fair interpretation of feys and the fey wild to. And could genuinely happen. And is probably why the Fwy are *incredibly* careful with how they speak. 40:18 Now imagine that every single little conversation, even with a little pixie could have such huge ramifications while in the fey wild (of course the same pixie talking in the material world would have no bargaining power at all other then just holding their word by honour, but if struck while in the fey wild it could have this power *everywhere*)
Someone definitely gas read the Dresden files. ;-) That said, there's so much more that could be going on on top of that. Since the material plane and Fay wild is connected small changes in either can influence the other. Like planting a tree in one or cutting one down could have huge ramifications in the other. Raising a building or building a new one. Changing the mood of a place. Any od these things could both change the links like in the Dresden files in how the landscape is attached, but it could literally build new landscapes in either world. And influence the power and standing of multiple factions in multiple courts. The mood of feys will influence the fey wild around them. Even on a small scale a pixie will influence a small area around them. A opening in the forest in the fey wild might have a overall mood, smell, sound etc from the regular residents, who might be a small group of feys, but each individual one will also have their individual impact id thwy get upset or happy or whatever. And since just such a small change can have a huge impact on the cery landscape itself, on the weather, on the people, on everything... Just imagine how crazy the politics can be qhen the gift of a glass of water, or a feather, or indeed a pizza, might change who's the queen in 200 years. And rhen you have Fey deals, that's magically binding, by the *letter* of the terms, *not* the spirit. The layers here gets really astronomical pretty quickly.
A place can be further away going in one direction then another. There might be shortcuts, or doing things like circling around something 3 or 7 times might take you to a new place with a different route available etc. A route that might only be available one way and not the other. So you might need to go 20 hexes one way, but going back only takes you 3 times around a mushroom and rhen you can enter a hex with a shortcut that takes of 17 hexes on the way back for instance, leaving you with just 3 to walk back perhaps?
I'm just getting into using a set of external monitors as a play mat for my players to use minis on top of, so of course digging around some found me Arkenforge which was already making what I wanted to do a lot easier. After seeing your video I now have a much better grasp on how to use it, and I also didn't know about exporting to other VTT systems when I was first looking at Arkenforge, knowing that's there really makes me happy as I can use this tool even if I change to a different system in the future. You've taken me from the "trial" to a "screw it I'm buying the huge package" with this thing.
Some things you said aren't really true: You claimed that 2e adventures "never reached 250 pages..." This is incorrect. As it turns out, I also have played 2e for over 30 years. Although there weren't many campaigns, they did exist in the form of boxed sets. I DMed one (Night Below), while playing another (Rod of 7 Patrs). It took us ten years to complete each of them while playing regularly. And for you to suggest that someone who has played D&D for 30 years does not know what a campaign is, well I shake my head at that. The other interesting thing is that I also happen to work for an AI company, and have seen firsthand the capabilities that exist. It is now 2024 and the level of detail that can be generated is staggering. Not only can the AI create the story overview, but it can create every tiny detail as well.

It feels like the Unseelie get all the seasons except winter. I don’t like how much more complex Seelie courts are and the Unseelie are so two dimensional.
For what it's worth, the concept of the Archfey in D&D can probably be traced back to the Sylvan Gods of 2nd edition, a small pantheon representing the races we would later collectively name "the fey", introduced in Monster Mythology and with their demiplanar realm, the Seelie and Unseelie Courts, introduced in Planes of Chaos. They consisted of Titania (Goddess of Good Fey), the Queen of Air & Darkness (Goddess of Evil Fey), Oberon (God of Good Fey), Verenestra (Goddess of Dryads), Damh (God of Satyrs and Korreds), Squealaich (God of Leprechauns), Eachthighern (God of Pegasi and Unicorns), Caoimhin (God of Killmoulis), Emmantiensien (God of Treants), Fionghuala (Goddess of Swanmays), Nathair Sgiathach (God of Faerie Dragons) and Skerrit (God of Centaurs).

I am running into the same problem with not being able to use the line function with the walls. How did you fix the issue? If you could help me out I would much appreciate it. When I bring the .png into photoshop the line is already horizontal and canvas is sized 200x200.

An idea that came to mind while watching this is that there is a superstition among the locals that they don't eat or gather food from the forest on the days when the seasons shift (equinox/solstice), because at that moment the portals are open and any food in thatbarea may be fairy food and trap you. From the other side, you have to shift the season to open the portal.
Not gonna lie, this setup + the discord setup was enough to dissuade me from joining this westmarch server, i have to admit this is come overly complicated stuff just to play DnD :D Some helpful feedback would be : 1. Make it easier for people to setup discord and join a game, i missed no roles and i dont have access to the misc channel and that is suprising taken i selected so many things :D 2. Foundry is known for its adaptability and mods, but you made it look like you need a degree just to edit an item and its stats/create attacks. 3. Alot of people will Probably get dissuaded by the complicated look of everything you showed here, i would suggest a more step by step guide with scripted transition between each thing. {You explained everything well that is not the problem}. Kudos on your work! But i will take my leave here as it seems like it is SO much work. For something that i can do in 5 minutes in roll20/similar VTTs. Good luck, map looks beautiful btw! Hey there! I don't know if you expect an answer or no, but I figured I'd leave one for other folks that will be reading this :) First thing: this guide is a full rundown of everything that can be useful in my opinion. We've been playing in the system for 8 months now without any additional instructions from me and we're fine. Things happen exactly as you write, in less than 5 minutes, mainly because you're not doing all the things in the video in slog-tempo (I deliberately speak slowly to be understood ^^) in the same time. Second: We have both seasoned players/DMs and completely new players, the assumption is that things need to be explained and laid out for the second group first and foremost, as more experienced people will just manage fine. There's another video in this playlist that boils down what is needed to start the game to 3 minutes. As for your feedback: 1. In my written materials I point to the fact that after joining the discord one needs to go to a 'LFG' channel to find the game. It's not opt-in-out via roles that players can pick themselves. I did notice I didn't put that disclaimer in videodescriptions though, thanks for pointing that out! 2. That's because we try to run the game with the least amount of mods that we can and while yes, there's a million of things you can do with mods, there's a fine line between automation and being responsible for your own sheet/character/game. We chose to run the game on the less moded side. 3. Well, this is a full tech guide. It's in the name. While I agree with you that this will probably dissuade some people, I can't agree that it's necessarily bad. On the same note, we could say that the "player's guide" for Foundry from Encounter Library is dissuading people from using Foundry because it seems complicated. I mean... yeah, we give players a powerful tool, and this is a complete rundown on how to use it, it will seem complicated. But to reiterate what I mentioned earlier - we have both complete non-tech people with no experience in games and skilled adepts in the game and they did perfectly fine without the guide and doing things step by step when they needed. Anyway, if you change your mind the table is always open, I also very much appreciate the feedback!
This is NOT user friendly anywhere..... damn it I work in IT and have used similar software before. And literally doing anything is such a pain in the ****. Like really, why is the option to set the 2nd screen/player screen not under display settings? Why do you have to DRAG AND DROP every file that isn't VTT format instead of having the option to import other file extensions via the import menu? Why is the setup of initial maps and their placement such a pain????? I dont understand, this software has gotten such great feedback, but the intuition for using the UI is terrible. Importing a map, setting a grid and setup the screens to use fog of war doesn't take hours of browsing and tutorials in other programs. But somehow you have managed to achieve that here. You must have an excellent UX designer.....

Our group has a satyr player, so i want to incorporate her fey lineage into her development arc. I thought of a magical forest that the locals love and hate, where the border to the feywild has like holes - so my players need to boop in and out, trying to understand and maybe fix it. And - because we have a lot of magic users - i plan on using that so that their magic goes bonkers when in the feywild, making maybe a random but exciting expierience for them to think out of the box when things go random :D Your mentioning of using our own folktales and myths of fey is fantastic - i really want to take other fey cultures in as well, thank you so much!
@@VampireLucifers Yeah, it's just going to be less generic if you use something original and yours. Obviously it depends on how deep roleplay your games are, but it's just easier to also immerse yourself in a character when you "feel" them better. You can also ask your DM to incorporate some wild magic rolls that don't have to be always good for some flavor!
Hey, thanks for the super tutorial! I´m currently looking for a good tool, or tool combination, to create maps and play them live. I first thought of a combination of Dungeon Alchemist and Dynamic Dungeons Editor, but I don´t know if they work together... So I´ve found Arkenforge, which looks pretty good as well and seems to combine both tools. Is there any chance, that you could also make a tutorial video from a DM perspective, on how to use it in a live session? Thank you in advance!! :))
You might be interested in some "fairies" that we got here in Austria (next to Germany) The "Wechselbalg" - some sort of Changeling, nearly the same story but they are usually very destinctive through "body mutations" The "Alp", one part of the word "Alptraum" (nightmare), which meant when you are dreaming bad an Alp is sitting on your chest and pushes you down. They were an explanation for bad dreams or not getting enough air while sleeping. Another was some sort of hag in the mountains, my great-grandmother told of her. She will bring you blessings if you leave some sour milk and bread outside. if you don't give it to her, she might curse you or steals your children. And the "Krampus" - more demon like, but before christianity took that myth they where mountain spirits that will come down from their caves to those who have done bad things and take them away. We still have the "Krampus-Lauf" (Krampus-Runs) where people dress up as Krampus and parade the streets with whips and fire to punish unbehaving children (it sounds evil but it's actually quite fun for kids). The "Heinzelmännchen" are good fairies that will fix broken things, but they only do that at night because they don't like to be seen. Some imagine them to like like a very small version of the dwarves in Snow White from Disney. Also an old one: when you see a spidernet with dew on it as a child, and you look at it for too long, the fae will take your soul away. And the last one i know of from here: when the "Raunächte" (Translated as rough nights, means the foggy days around new years) are, don't hang your washed clothes. That would anger fairies like fog women and they will curse someone in your family to die.

I appreciate how you didn’t just say Fey should deceive you into making bargains with hidden consequences and you have to be careful what you say as their sense of morality is different than yours, but you actually went through the effort of providing examples of what those bargains might be and how a Fey might actually trick you into a deal without you knowing.

Wow, I tried ArkenForge quite a while ago and found it difficult to use. The new UI changes have made a big difference. This tool is great, and really easy to use now. Having tried all of the leading mapping tools, after just a few minutes use, ArkenForge is now my favorite. I love the Sci-Fi and a Cyberpunk packs.
