Hey there! I have been reading tarot for about 5 years now, I do pro bono readings for others, and have a daily practice for myself. I have recently begun to learn more about the Golden Dawn as I want to better understand the symbolism contained within the Rider Waite Smith deck. I adore all things tarot and have amassed more decks than I anticipated, so starting this channel is driving me to spend more time with decks that I love which are often passed over for what is comfortable and easy.
Thanks for showing the deck. Actually I do like when decks change the usual elemental alignment of suits with elements. The elements do encompass too much for considering: Hardwiring an elements to a suit makes perfectly sense. Merging swords and fire means honoring the "fires of invention" and "the burning flame of determination". Transformation is a quality of fire ... and changing your mind can be quite as a transformative experience. Also the flame of hope ... is a mental thing, ... Combining wands and air ... relates to breath, movement, ... I mean ... the combination of Swords/Fire, Wands/Air isn't too uncommon. I guess in Wicca that's even the standard association. Yet ... each suit can be combined with any of the 4 elements. As far as I know there are decks of any possible combination. If done carefully and on purpose ... all them can make sense. And all of the alignment systems can add something to reading the minors. The only question is if it's helping you or confusing you. (The answers "both" and "neither" als valid as well. ;-) )
I agree with you about modern nirvana oracle..for me, keywords are part of my practice and maybe this is something of a me thing that needs tweaking (or not) but once I look through a deck and if there’s keywords, they stick with me. I’ve modded a good bit of decks mainly sizing them down, rounding corners and edging, etc. But… if I purchase an oracle with specific keywords tied to the card image, I just feel like why would I purchase them, cut them up, which makes the meanings inconsistent, to be left with really pretty cards, sure, but I need more than that. I hope I’m making sense lol. At that point I’d just rather spend my time printing my own cards and keywords which would probably be about the same as modding the dang deck (got to measure each card, guillotine them keywords, probably f+ck up a lot lol.) That deck is really gorgeous, but boat? Really? 🤔 are they pre k 3 flash cards or an oracle tool used for divination? I’ll stop, lol I don’t want to come off too harsh because again the images are so nice but to spend money on a deck just to chop it up makes me feel like it’s losing the essence of what the creator intended on them being-which is why I collect, I love having different decks with different energy & intent. K I’m done rambling, I just had a cup of coffee so yeah.
A shot in the dark but do you have any decks to sell left over? Lol. I’m interested in quite a few and I know you made a couple videos, but if you have any left available I’d definitely buy a good few of them.

I agree with you about the Hierophant in the older edition Mary-el. I have the “cleaned up” version, which I still adore but wish they didn’t change cards. The Solara Occulto Meliora is another favorite, but I’m a bit too precious with that deck & need to get over it fast, these cards are meant to be worked together with and are tools, it does nothing just sitting in their box looking pretty. Lol. I am really liking that Marseille-Waite tarot, that one’s getting tossed right in the cart. Such beautiful decks shown! :) my unicorns are the Majestic Earth & Tyldwick Tarots, older edition Jonasa Jaus among many lol. One day 🫠
25:00 I personally read numerologically / Marseille-style. Seeing “revenge” as the main aspect of a 5? Nope. Maybe extremely minor aspect, sure. But 5s - I think in general and for me personally - Change. That’s why I find it hard to jive with tarot with keywords because everyone is gonna disagree on if it’s the “right” keyword. Put your opinions for keywords in the book, not on the card! With explanation to why That’s the word you would choose as a creator.
Hi, The Anna K version you have is the indi deck from Europe (Germany? I forget where the creator lives). The mass market version - larger with black borders, by US Games - recently went OOP.
I always find these videos about individual tarot cards interesting even though I already know a lot of the things that are going to be talked about so a lot is repetitive for me, I still love watching these. Especially because you never know when that one little detail pops up that is still new to you or differs from your own viewpoint. So I would love to see you complete this series even though I totally understand if at some point you just stop cause 78 videos in one series are a lot. Also am interested in hearing a little bit more about the decks that are more artprojects and come from artists that aren't really super into tarot, like you mentioned as a little sidenote in the end of this video. Would totally watch a whole video on that and your opinion.
Thank you! I am working on the High Priestess right now, but I am currently super focused on my art and my art supplies have taken over my desk. I am hoping to film it next week. The HP is actually somewhat overhyped as the “psychic” card and to me feels very much connected to the Moon card, but where the moon is aware and ready to bring to light, the HP is still somewhat unaware and swimming in the darkness as it feels safer. I am hoping to do all 78, but I don’t want to say I will and then not follow through! Maybe I will do a video on the decks that are more art projects and less tarot like. I’ve gotten rid of most of them, but I’ll use the ones I do have.
@@birdhousetarot already sounds like a very interesting approach to the High Priestess and also tying/comparing her directly to the Moon card could really make for some interesting things/questions to think about. With the artdeck video I would also like it to be just a rambly video more like a general talk about that topic than having the complete video to show specific decks cause of course you don't have a lot of them since your not a fan of them but that doesn't mean that you don't have an interesting/valuable opinion or viewpoint around that.
Decks that are different from our norm: I’m working with the Star Seeker Tarot and Oracle together in January. I love how January they feel to me. But the Star seed, pastel purples and blues is SO far from my normal aesthetic. I’m a huge fan of earthy deck with a bit of whimsy. Like Forest of Enchantment for instance. In fact if mystical forest creatures are in a deck…take my money! But for some reason I needed that Star Seeker tarot, and then the oracle when it was on kickstarter. I couldn’t explain it, I just needed them! They are very out of place in my collection for sure.
What an awesome series! Yes...say this alot. Learn, know, as much as poss on the good solid tarot basics!!!! Goes for many things. But if you got this strong, youll be able to read any deck. .some more challenging but ya dont need anything crazy fancy in the first place. Great video.
Some great gems! It’s true what you are saying about Shimmering Vail. Had it for few years, but it’s still in my drawer, waiting for its time, if it will ever come.
Ooohhhh that comparison with the Hierophant being right next to the Empress really made me love the Hierophant card in this deck even more and gave it a little sth extra. Thank you for sharing that. Also your method of taking the Majors out looking at them seperate first and then putting the minors in really sounds interesting. Definitely wanna try that with my next readings. Excited to see how that will work/change the reading for me.

The blindfold in the Justice card is quite traditional. It is based on Justizia and how she is depicted holding up the scales being blindfolded. That is the case to show that Justizia doesn't judge or come to a conclusion based on first impressions (what you can see with your eyes) like appearance, looks, clothes, societal stand. Infront of her everybody gets treated equally and her decision is fair because she ignores the surface level and gets to the heart of the matter.
Thank you! I have found this out since recording this video. I really do like this deck, I just wish the artist spoke more to her choices and why she decided to go the route she did. I wish that for a lot of decks actually! I am always fascinated by how the artist/creators see the card.
@@birdhousetarot I totally agree. For me that's the main reason why I want a guidebook for a deck. Because I don't need your standard keywords and general card meanings and if I do I can read about them in a book about the tarot in general.
I just have to say I LOVE your interpretations of the Kings and Queens and how you imagine what their relationship would look like. It made me laugh and gave me food for thought at the same time. PS: I'm just watching all of your videos right now (with the exception of the declutter series cause I wanna watch all of those together) so that's why multiple comments from me pop up today.
Stumbled upon your channel by just scrolling through TarotTube recommandations and I love the way you talk and what you're saying. Found it really interesting to hear your interpretations of some details in the imagery that I haven't put a lot of meaning to when I saw them elsewhere (like how the queen and king of swords look backwords to represent their level of experience and learning from the past or how in the ace of swords the swords tip is pointing downwards and what that could highlight.) Also love listening to your experience with it and not just having a first impressions or unboxing. It really helps me at least with decks that hop on and off my wishlist to make a decision.

@@birdhousetarot as you said there's not a lot out there at least that I'm aware of. I love Kelly from the Truthinstory's walkthroughs because with her even if they are first impressions they're deep and informative. Also at the end of each year she does a live where she talks about the decks that she did a first impression video on and how she experienced them throughout the year working with them. Aquamarine18 wants to start doing more deep dives into decks instead of just walkthroughs too. I hope that she follows through with that because her first one was really good. And then the format of threegirlsonedeck by sunsetboughtarot, heather and peekaboorose is also pretty good cause they're all talking about decks that they have worked with. Not necessarily a classic review all of the time but it goes in that direction.
This is a good question. I need to recalculate…but a lot. I don’t really want a lot anymore. I want loved decks that I use regularly. So I am definitely going to be reducing the size even more over the next year. I had 200 before I culled them. I’m down to about 120ish now? I also have a box of maybes that will most likely leave, too.

It’s called the R. Black tarot. There are only 1,000 and they have not been easy to come by. It’s totally easy to be swayed by a pretty deck, but the longer I study and read, the more I know exactly what I want in a deck. I am still shocked by the Bohemian Gothic. It looks so much better on camera.

Simple, subtle detail that actually “opens” up the card. I’ve never been tempted by the Bohemian Gothic. I’m not into vampires, witches, fairies, or fae. I like a balanced deck. Masculine and feminine. The use of colour is important to me. Thanks for your content. 💐

Trust your gut! I’m beginning to think Babastudio may be a bit overrated. However, the did include a sample of their upcoming deck and that one actually looks professional.
@@TarotandWitchery Thank you! I found it on Etsy. It’s actually a bandana I purchased for my head, but liked it too much to use it that way. I have since purchased a couple of other bandanas to use as cloths.

The little sister tarot is so stunning. Loved what you had to say about it. You got some beautiful TDM. Artisan tarot I have yet to explore there beautiful decks. I agree starting out with a RWS and a pip deck really helps with learning the card meaning. Very nice!

What a good shout using the Mary El in January! I might follow suit and do the same as haven't used it as much as I'd like. And think it would make a good wintery pairing with the Seasons of the Witch Imbolc Oracle! That'll be my January combo I think.
I would wipe down each card with a cloth lightly moistened with Florida Water. There are many people that use Florida Water for purification and cleaning. Good Luck!!

I just found your channel and I watched directly some of your videos. At the moment I'm looking for some new decks for my collection and guess what... after quite a long time with yes-no-yes-no-yes-no for the dark mansion... I finally gave it a HELL YES and BOUGHT IT a few minutes ago :-))))) Thanks for showing your beautiful collection 🙂
If the box's smell doesn't go away, You could just try if you can air and clean the cards and if they are oK, throw the box away and put the cards in a bag. If airing doesn't help, maybe take a cardboard shoebox, spray some essence into it (there are smell killer sprays I think) and lay the cards inside, close the lid and wait 24 hours, repeat for a week and see if it is improving. After that, I'd scent the deck with some insence or herb sachetts.
