Vale yesterday: "when Paolo first talked me about Jac (me), He told me he was a black metalhead who only listened to black metal and I imagined a giant dude, all pressed in black, with long black hair and thick angry eyebrows. then I actually meet him, and he was like "hihihi, I'm vegetarian! :D"".
I have seen Opeth like 10 times and I NEED to hear them play The Moor. Ghost Reveries is my favorite album of all time but The Moor is the best album opener ever.
first time listener here, the first song is absolutely insane, beautiful 6/8, love the lydian section and the solos are incredibly interesting and well crafted
Still remember how I went into a electronics store while we waited for the train back on a school trip when I was in middle school ten years ago. Went to the CD section, saw this, didn't know about Opeth at all back then and took it because the cover looked interesting enough for me to pick it up. Played it right when I arrived back home later and immediately fell in love with them.
It was hard for alot of years to pick a fave Opeth. Its almost a tie with Black Water park. This one still holds my interest the most . Its the most amazing concept as the story goes. I am a big fan of Lovecraft and old school pulp horror and this is like one of those stories come to life. It made me appreciate death metal vocals for the first time even though i had already heard blackwater and deliverance. It fits the vibe of the story and helped me " get" death metal vocals. It set the bar really high because in my opinion Mikael is the best death metal vocalist of all time. I went on a death metal feeding frenzy for the next long stretch. Got away feom metal and was a mellow prog type guy. But recently got back into metal and alot of the more original and experimental death bands have mire than a little Opeth in the dna. But in all the best ways . 2022-2023 had some amazing " death metal for people who dont like death ". Whereas the prog scene has been pathetic for many years and has become a horribly stagnated genre. I had to turn metal to get anything truly " progressive". So naturally my music mind went back in time to this album. Where a new i was set off on a new musical journey. Thank you for opening my musical mind even wider opening me up to new styles.
I wish there was a limited tv series based on the story portrayed in this album. The Moor and Melinda, Unforgivable Love, The Sin....Any producers here?
I just want to say that OPETH and the whole metal scene has made this world a much better place. It's made life more than tolerable, it's enjoyable! I listened to this to detox off a serious pain meds tolerance when I quit my prescription cold turkey and it worked! That and remembering how to fight and that others have suffered worse, like castrated slaves. We are spoiled and blessed compared to 125 yrs ago. Anyway, love light and mosh pits to all!
