A nice little video about the founding and early history of Venice. I was born and raised there in the middle of WW2 and by then Venice was rapidly declining. I graduated from Venice High School in 1961 and my mother graduated from VHS in 1930. Back then it was a community dominated by the working poor and the closer you lived to canals or the beach the cheaper the rent was. Originally it was called Venice of America. Growing up there back in the 40s and 50s we referred to my old hometown of where the debris meets the sea.

Guessing the film was made in the late 60's early 70s due to the sponsors listed at the end.

Does anyone know who owns the rights to Abbot Kinney's story? Any surviving relatives?

Very interesting, but it's too bad the music is so overbearing and the sound quality is so bad. I can tell by the graphics used for the title this was made in the early-70's. I would say 1973. Those letter graphics were very popular in 1973 and 1974.

From culture, speeches, to trains, to circus, to rollercoasters, amusements, to gangs, and freaks and wannabies. The reason birth control was invented. From thrills of rides to thrills of homeless drunks.

Hey is that a rotary head nozzle? I have a JM 1450 jetter and lookin to upgrade my nozzles. In your opinion Which nozzles work best for tree roots and grease ? Awesome video by the way.

Alberta Proud Hey, I know this was posted 3 years ago, but you should look into the Flex Shaft equipment becoming more popular now. A JM1450 is good on PVC/ABS pipes for grease up to 3" ideally, but won't do anything for roots. The new flex shaft machines have chains on the end that spin inside the pipe and can rip out roots and break up hard grease. Ridgid has the K9 103 and K9 204 Flex Shaft, but there are some other options too

@ganguskan8 Are you asking when the footage is from, or when the documentary itself was made? The footage looks like it is from 1905-1920. The documentary looks like it was made in the 1970s or 80s. Does anyone else know when the documentary itself was made?
