Is there a point in a muscians life that you are just..jacking off over prescribed chordal permutations? We grow old and recognize patterns of creative expression..we create..cuz we be created
This is just wonderful. Doug and the whole band are fantastic. It's within (my) living memory but feels like a lost world. Brilliant musicianship and thanks so much for the upload
The Raney (Jimmy, guitar), Kotick (Teddy, bass), and Levitt (Al, drums) families were friends In New York in the late 60s/early 70s. Doug Raney and Sean Levitt were both developing jazz guitarists and I assume Jimmy mentored them both to some extent. Sean (d. 2002) became without doubt the better, but was much less known. Just stopped by to say, his version of Beatrice is also on here and is well worth checking out.
Hard to believe both Doug and Bernt are gone. Having played in Rainey- Rosengren Quintet many times is great to see them alive and playing well. I miss them, they were one of the best groups in Nord, especially w. Horace Parlan in piano chair.
