Edgar was the one who came up with the keytar. The idea came to him when he was checking out the newest synthesizers. Later 60 early 70 keyboard players were typically using a Hammond organ before the mini moog. Hammond Organ was synthesizing sounds in the mid thirties. In the mid forties Alvino Rey invented the voice box. He used a slide guitar and his voice box to give a voice to a puppet. Albino Ray St Louis Blues with Stringy the guitar. I think the music video of that was recorded in 1943. Aveeno Rey is the one most responsible for the electric guitar when he worked with Les Paul and then Gibson. 🚜🤠🐂

This tune is still as magical and magnificent as it was when it was first released…I first heard this live in Buffalo,NY at Kleinhans Music Hall. The way each instrument’s sound bounced off the silk draped walls…phenomenal.
Yeah this is a unreleased song that was supposed to be on the off the wall album, or so we all thought. It turns out Sunset driver was a demo for the Thriller album and it's actually on the Thriller 40 album that came out last year. Sunset driver was definitely made during the time he was working on his off the wall album.

The sound at the beginning is actually something falling over in the studio, and they kept it in. I’m sure I saw a deposition interview (some idiot claiming they wrote it🙄) where Michael said it actually fell on him!
