uhh i just got a DA model its still maroon/purpley on the outside beautiful also i have the metal shaft bushing i second the make metal spools comment i have a cardnal 3 also and that with the low speed model is 5:1 gear ratio and high speed is 6:1 and its a 70s reel but the spool split on my cardnal and i bought a metal one
interesting. I also have a da model with a metal spool bushing but I have read that is when they shifted to plastic, it seems there's conflicting evidence with that. I recently bought a cardinal 3 and some custom parts to tune it, I'll be making a video about it shortly!
Its so cool to see someones still using the old rainbow quantum reels. I always felt like they were made for TV given that they came out during the heyday of fishing on ESPN. How'd you find a custom handle?
lol, a fellow quantum head!? That brand is how I cope with not being able to buy Doyo here in the states. The Catalyst, Energy, and Tour PTi/PTiA reels were the best spinning reels of the 00s. The titanium bail and magnetic bail "spring" are a chefs kiss to this day. Seeing what Quantum has become now makes me extremely sad. As far as the handle goes, any screw-in handle that fits modern Abu Garcia spinning reels will also fit screw-in Quantum reels going back to the PTiA generation (06-current).
@@sydshanshala Interesting. Thanks for the info about the handle, the rubber they used for the original stock knobs on these reels hasnt held up well here down south. What is Doyo?
Doyo is the designer and manufacturer of Quantum Lew's Abu and many other US brands. These companies order their reels from a catalog of Doyo's designs and simply pick the color and appointments. They're based in Korea
Nice battle with the carp, definitely a surprise on the lure, not something they generally go for! Not a bad day all around! It’s been a tough summer, some good days, a lot of skunk days. And now so many of the reservoirs are drained a bunch. Fish on brother!
a quick google search will answer your questions friend. its perfectly legal to fish at clinton gulch reservoir, you can even bring kayaks and belly boats. I saw several other anglers there on this day. The only area that is off limits to fishing is the east inlet, due to spawning cutthroat.
Hello. First time viewer. Would you please provide information as to where you had your reel modified, powdered and clear coated. I have reels 40+ and 30+ years old and could do with some cosmetic TLC. Thank you.
i tried replicating this today, no luck. it was middle of the day. used slightly different trailer. and im using a $10 walmart rod lol (zebco slingshot). wondering where i went wrong. i cant cast very far, i think the line is too heavy maybe?
Sorry to hear that, Smith can be super tough in the middle of the day and the bite has been pretty slow overall recently, the best times rn are definitely early morning and 4pm - dusk. Those tiny baits can be difficult to cast without special equipment but lighter line will help significantly, I mostly use 2lb or 4lb
I'm glad you enjoyed it! That book "Fish of Colorado - Field Guide" by Dan Johnson is a fantastic resource. There are tons of micro species out on the eastern plains that I wasn't aware of, some only found in that area of the country, many becoming quite rare as common species invade their home waters. I have several trips planned for the fall to target more micros out there!
Just recently found your channel! Im a local Colorado creator myself!! Love the content you are a pro! Is there bass in this pond?🤔 Keep it up!!!! Hopefully we can run into each other soon !
Thanks for posting this, I used to fish this Reservior 30:yrs ago. Caught my first small mouth on a chartreuse spinner, throwing along the south side by the rocks. Great memories
awesome to see someone else fishing these old workhorses! I have 6 or 7 304s a 314 and a 305 (for lefties). design is simple and unbeatable. coolest part is someone else was catching fish with this 70 plus years ago
Completely agree. There's a certain magic that comes with vintage equipment, whether it be reels cars or guitars, they're full of stories. That CAP/304 design is so elegant and timeless, the hypnotic clicking on the retrieve is just icing on the cake. I'd love to see a reel company come out with an updated/modernized version the way some companies clone Abu Ambassadeurs.
Its an Abu Garcia Zenon 1000s reel paired with a Kuying Teton 6ft 2inch super ultralight rod. I got the reel on eBay and got the rod on Aliexpress. I absolutely love that combo!
