Hi, I'm Denise Leigh. I am revolutionizing Business Education by using engaging resources that I created myself for use in my project-based, student-led classroom. I go beyond the textbooks, so that students are learning with a hands-on approach to learning. I love collaborating with my fellow business teachers.
Love it. And no tears! You did soooo good. Cheers to your students. They will forever remember your words. And Salute to you. Can’t wait for more lessons.
Thanks! This is a great demonstration of how to use your materials. I have found students copy and paste from the internet. I had emailed you previously about that issue and you said the you "flatten the links". Could you provide more information how. Does the link not allow copy and paster or the document not allow copy in paste in the fillable fields? Would like some clarification if you have time. Thanks
The reference resources included that students use to gather information, research and analyze are flattened and not able to be copy and pasted. Students must read the reference materials and formulate their own answer.
I teach Business Law and notice I lose my students attention during the powerpoints. I very interested in your product. Is it possible for me to view your section on the Court Systems before I make my decision?
This was really helpful I am going to restructure my class for this fall, I would focus on getting through chapters 1-5 before semester and focus on the reports and posting but I think I will try your approach this year and see if it makes a difference! Thank you
A little clarification on when you do part of the work "as a class" instead of in small groups -- do they each go find the answers to all of the questions posed, and then you re-group and they share out answers together as a class? Or do you (personally) just discuss each of the topics and give them the answers, but without a power point? Also, for snip notes, do they tape or glue those clippings into a notebook to keep as reference material?
When students are to answer questions as a class (and not in small groups) I have used both methods that you mention above! It depends on how I read the room. Some days, students seem very responsive and some days they just seem to want to be left alone. :) Anyone who works with teens will understand this. If the class seems to be having a day where they are willing to share and participate, I will give them 5 minutes or so to complete a section...and we will regroup and I will ask for volunteers to share what they discovered. Both strategies of what you mentioned work well. As far as the Snip Notes...I have students use one single strip of clear tape across the top of each snip so that they can be flipped up. That way, we can add more on information on the backs such as reflections or a bell ringer writing prompt given.
Do the kids still take notes from other students' presentations? Do you "add to" their presentations to hit anything they missed? And do you still test them over the material that the students taught? Thank you for teaching a live lesson to see how you utilize this!! (I just realized I am sending this question from my son's account but I don't want to re-type my question!)
Hello and yes! The students take notes so that all students have completed assignments at the end of the class period. ...and yes! I add any missed information as the "guide on the side" as students are really running the class...I am just guiding them through the lesson. All assessments on done on material that the students discover because I provided vetted links to where I want them to get the material from.
That's exactly why I posted this video! It's hard for me to film while I am teaching so my teacher-bestie filmed this for me and my husband published it. This is how I use my resources. It is a great way to get everyone engaged!
Hi Matt! Thanks for listening! I am starting the rollout this week! I am dropping 3 episodes (Sun, Mon, and Tues) this week, then they will be released every Tuesday until summer. Follow my RU-vid channel. The podcasts will also be released on all the big podcast services - Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Amazon Music, Stitcher, et al.
Do you teach accounting game classes on RU-vid for the general public? Can anyone buy your material to learn more about accounting? I like the way you teach !!
Thanks for taking the time to give a more in-depth explanation of your system. I struggle with finding the best way to deliver the instruction and keeping them engaged. I often use graphic organizers and sometimes jigsaw groups to get them involved. I’m going to purchase the marketing snip notes. Can they also be used for a 2nd year marketing class? Im going to recommend this to our new accounting teacher as well.
It is very engaging! My marketing snip notes are a favorite! I will be adding some more this school year. Let me know if you have any requests as to what might make good additions to the collection!
