My dad never took up Hang Gliding, even though he helped me launch a few times back in the 70s. His love was skiing. He finally hung it up when he was 96. Now at 99 his knees are bad and he walks with a cane. I'm just 69 and after watching this decided that, after nearly 50 years, it's time to start flying again. Seriously. I just booked some lessons!
I flew in my 30's for a couple of years. I'm 63 and I'm thinking of doing it again. I still ski and snowboard so I think I'm good to go. Where is this spot?
This is 50k south of Sydney Australia, actually two spots hill 60 and the low spot known as the gulley. I’m a yank that lived there for 5 years from 2012-2017 really miss it. One of these guys Ken taught me how to set up and fly from there great guy, good to see he is still flying.
Nice, sorry 3 late. It took me back. I used to fly 30 years ago. I learned from Ian Jarman, not sure of the spelling. I got to hang 3, if that's still a thing and flew for about 2 to 3 years. Stanwell looks different from the air. I was thinking of doing it, I'm 63 and I would have to re train. Anyhow that's my story. Do you think I should go for it?
Hay nice vid., so you took it up at 46. I started last year {51}and I just can't get my foot in the door. Where do you go to get good help? I need a SO to finish my license and some gear too prefer new Malibu but it seems you can't even buy it. Learnt with Tony at Newcastle. I'm at Sunshine coast. The clubs are....mmmmm Just getting excuses worse than skydiving. Is there something happening south of Sydney or Victoria? Any safety offices out there? Swooper PPG RAA
My UP comet would fly as well now as it did when I last flew it in 1990. The air is the same and when I flew I always flew for my own experience not for being the hottest pilot or the guy that flew the farthest. I knew guys that could with old gliders fly rings around pilots the pilots with the latest gear. Sure there’s tech improvements and performance advantages but those only matter if they matter to you. I say fly for yourself because when you are older those experiences are the ones that stay fresh.
Perfect watch with my morning coffee. Just out of curiosity, what would you put in your logbook ( if you are logging your flights ) ? I hour flight, 12 touch and goes ?
Got to love a Fun1. Got to love flying at the Gully. Almost set up to come back and do both of those things, sold my shit, booked my flights, be there in the 1st week of May. Hope the weather holds,,, will be in touch. W
