I want to go to law school but unfortunately because there are too many lawyers their pay isn't very good for the amount of school that you have to do.
Very many bad lawyers but not nearly enough good ones. If you want to be self serving and become a lawyer for money, then yeah don't bother. If you want to actually make the world a better place, there's plenty of room for good faith lawyers. The pay is enough to get you by and that should be enough.
Went to law school and, thus far, was an amazing decision. If you take your career seriously, be patient, and sharpen your craft, you can help a lot of people and make lots of money. I know lawyers who make millions a year as trial attorneys. The lawyers who complained about money are the ones who made 55k-85k a year out of law school and were not patient enough to develop their skills and make a name for themselves. Go to any criminal law office in NY and they will ask you 100k just to get to trial and another 100k after trial as a retainer, lawyers are not cheap. Talk to that attorney and they will tell you that they worked for low pay in the beginning as a prosecutor or public defender and now make more money than you can imagine. This is a game of sacrifice, just like how a doctor has to do a residency after medical school. As @jonathanborg6242 said, there is a shortage of skilled attorneys and those are the ones who will make the most. If you are willing to work hard and want to be an attorney, I think it's an amazing career.
