Heck yeah. I love this. And those figs look pretty perfect huh. I have a gigantic in ground LSU purple. It has about 8 main trunks coming up and they're 10-15' each. Too big so I am going to air layer for friends, and then I'd like to graft like this. I can easily do 20 varieties on this monster huge super strong root stock. Do you think 20 varieties would work? I know I am going to learn a ton once I start, but I'll take any words of wisdom / guidance now if you have please.

We have 2 fig trees- 1 Kadota, which produced the first year & 1 LSU, which didn’t produce the 1st year, but is producing this year (our 2nd year but not getting big or ripening yet - so happy with the Kadota, unsure about the LSU as far as if or how to know if will ripen… do you know anything about LSU fig tree? Or where either of these 2 types are in the need for a male tree or the fig wasp? We are in the state of Georgia, US. Thank you for this great information!

Here in central Texas, my brown turkey took quite a hit with the hard freeze a couple of years ago but has bounced back beautifully. It is producing well, despite my neglect, and fruit may even be ripe by now. I'll check later when the sun goes down and I go out back to do some watering.

Salamu Alukum Back home in Nablus, Palestine we used to have very large Fig tree. This tree was taller than three story building where I used to live, it was a few feet taller than the three story. The width of this tree approximately 25 to thirty feet. During summer time, I used to climb this lovely tree and pick up thirty to forty figs almost every day. The fig used to be very large I would say four to five figs almost a pound. I loved this tree because it was part of my childhood, I was almost eight or nine years when I started to climb this tree. The sad thing about it is the that my brother cut it because he was living on the first floor of our building and he want to expand his living space and the only place was is to cut this tree and add a living space. I was really saddened when I heard he cut this fig tree, I loved this tree, it is in the Holley place of Palestine. Sorry to make you sad.

Why do you put plastic bags over the figs for ? Is it to keep the snails and birds from them?
@RayMirshahi
@RayMirshahi 27 дней назад
They are organza bags. I use them too. They protect the fruit against birds and wasps, but not against squirrels and raccoons.
@Sussy-Walter
@Sussy-Walter 25 дней назад
@@RayMirshahiaren't wasps necessary to pollinate figs?
@RayMirshahi
@RayMirshahi 25 дней назад
@@Sussy-Walter The fig wasp is a specialized wasp that doesn't exist in Northern US and Canada. There are different types of figs (Smyrna, San Pedro, Common, and Capri figs) Smyrna-type figs develop only when they're pollinated. Figs of the White San Pedro type combine the characteristics of both the Smyrna and the Common type on one tree. First-crop figs develop without flower pollination, while second-crop figs require it. Common figs such as Brown Turkey do not need pollination at all. People in Canada and Northern US usually grow common figs. If they grow Smyrna figs, they need to manually pollinate their figs.

Our figs are over 5 years old, over 6 feet tall, full and beautiful - but we have never gotten a fig off of either of them. They get full sun, were covered to be protected from frost, get plenty of water, get chicken manure for fertilizer, etc. I'd love to send you a picture of them and see what you'd suggest we need to do. We want figs so badly!!!

Looks like the roots are below the 10% bark going up. Would it be better to keep .. say 50% of the bark? And is it better to use transparent device covered with aluminum foil so that you can check for roots without opening it? I want to do this to a peach tree, is it ok to do it now or should I wait until spring to do it? Great channel!
