Im using LXDE, I use xmacro to do keypresses, its in the ubuntu repos. currently running 6 workspaces on dual monitors, i use C-A-Left and C-A-Right to move between them, and C-A-S-Left C-A-S-Right to move windows between them. One trick I setup that i really like is that i assigned my gaming mouse's extra button to send F7 key to the OS, then I setup the F7 key to run /usr/bin/F7 and this is a symlink to a specified script in ~/.local/bin/ and i can change the script that is specified by pressing F6 to bring up a zenity based menu to select the script I want. This arrangement allows me to assign a multi function button on my mouse that can do damn near anything i need and has proven to be extremely useful.

I finally got move over to a different window manager than i3. I mean i still have i3 on a couple install. But i have one with something different that so far I'm actually really liking, and i think I'm going to make it through the ricing/setup phase where i normally decided if something is worth it or not to keep learning. Dwm. Which, i should have given a go earlier. I think like others the idea of editing source code, patching it etc, sounds not fun. And hard. But so far its the first one that is interesting enough, and fun enough to make myself keep going. Because normally I just get tired of all the work, and decided. Ah screw it. I already have my i3 config.

i used dwm for a bit. its pretty nice but lacks in a lot of areas. the thing about suckless software is its essentially incomplete. the patching part sucks. i tried applying a few patches and it broke. ive since found out about flexipatch so im sure ill give it another go at some point.
@_BLANK_BLANK

@@jdanks see i think the patching thing is what made me like it more than say qtile. Qtile i just have a big python config file i have to learn how to configure. And it just does what it does. Dwn. I did have to learn how to patch, but following along with someones video as I added patched, i ended up learning how to fix them when they break, and all of that. And it was something actually intetesting for me. Its a lot like why I like arch. I add the things I want as I realize I want them. Until I end up with something perfect for me. Flexipatch. I tried first. But the thing is because of how they do it. The config files are all jumbled up with stuff for all the patches. And it makes finding things to configure like for keybinding or other stuff hard to find. Anyway. I expected not to like it. Or to not be able to understand what i needed to do for patching. But i was thankfully wrong. I mean, obviously its all personal taste

I've mainly used Gnome in the past couple off years and the first thing I've always done after a fresh install of for example ubuntu was to remove the dock extensions and installing autohide topbar extension. A couple of months ago I finally decided to try a WM and since I didn't use one I didn't imstall any bars to used with it and I don't have any problems without one. In my opinion any information shown on the bar is so rarely used that it's a waste of space on my 13" laptop. If the mac style menu integration was universally working, it might've justified the bar for me but app's are doing whatever they wan't here and hoping to have a standard among them is wishful thinking. There is no Apple to enforce design in our world.

The biggest barrier is EAC, which Rust doesn't develop. Theres been some developments recently in proton (I think) about adding in some of the syscalls EAC uses. Right now you're best bet, would be to find a non facepunch server you like to play on and bribe them to whitelist you. No idea if thats a thing they can do. Also you don't get to complain about spyware (windows) while using vivaldi browser lmao.

Just ghostery specifically has some issues with privacy stuff if you look into them. Which, for a company that claims to do what they do makes it hard to recommend. The cool thing about Linux is you can do whatever you want with it. If you don't want a bar, you don't need a bar. Mine isn't too obtrusive since it's either a clear background or blur/frosted and the icons are collapsible so you'll only see 1 when there's really a few in there. But it's all about preference and getting what you want out of it. It's great 👌

I mean look at what happened with Counter Strike. Yes there were cheaters before, but when linux for it was released people would cheat for years on the same account with a linux distro with no repurcussions. At least with the current state of implementation the cheaters are getting taxed by receiving bans on accounts that they have to replenish. The problem with EAC on linux is that it only has access to user-space instead of kernal-space as opposed to Windows which does have access to kernal-space. People already complain about how cheaters are ruining the game and how bad the anti-cheat is. What would happen if the current state of the anti-cheat was diminished by a official linux release? Before it exacerbated the situation with Counter Strike, you could expect it to do the same with linux.
@LabiaLicker
@LabiaLicker 5 дней назад
No you're a little confused. Theres nothing inherent about Linux that makes cheating more easy. As for where EAC runs, theres no reason it can't run as a kernel module (even though kernel level anti cheat is a fools errand). In fact, now that I'm thinking about it, securing a game and making sure cheats are not being used is actually far easier on Linux.

@pXnEmerica

I bought rust while Linux version was still a thing. The problem isn't Rust. It's EAC. There are very few servers in the list that have the right config setup that will allow you to play. Some disable EAC, but there's another obscure flag to disable. I think I found 1 that actually worked at the time, and no one played on it, and it was a single tile.

Dual-Boot. What are your System Specs? I've been running Windows 11 for past 2 and half years now without any problems with it what so ever. Linux was not intended for gaming. Yes you can run Wine and other bits for forcing certain software to run, some well some not so well. However You live in a Microsoft dominated World period. No amount of complaining or videos or anything else will change that. (By 2027 Windows will have a Unix like Core.) And as for EAC, before complaining about it, it's Epics Anti-Cheat solution. Go read and learn about C++, then study how EAC works. - You are missing so much information and facts, education surrounding your issues and complains it's tiring to even watch through the whole video.

You don't get it, it's not because of the cheaters it due to the market share for OS's 98% of people on steam are windows 10 or newer and facepunch can see what most people are playing on which in turn makes the most money. They had linux support years ago, was removed abd they refunded anyone who had linux because it was only a handful or so running it and for a game that is updated 12 times a year it isnt worth it.

Many assumptions here. The site is in German and right wing and nazis in Euope are mainly inspired by Ancient Rome, and here you have this whole, new narrative about Romans being super gay, and bunch of European right wing politicians were and are gay. E.g. former leader of Austrian 'Freedom Party' Jörg Haider (died in a car crash some years ago). Then you have people like Thiel, who's like 'libertarian' while developing surveillance and crime prediction systems for governments or whomever, because islamization of Europe, migrants etc (In US they mainly checked skin color and neighberhood. An advanced algorithm). Thiel is gay (Who's unnoficial, young boyfriend recently died under mysterious circumstances. His official boyfriend is much older) and obviously likes to employ people of such inclination (E.g. former Austrian PM Kurz.). Anyhow, while US 'right wing' may or might be anti gay, European definitely is not. Then there's church and their seminaries where they occasionally make gay porn (This too happened in Austria lol.).

I've distro hopped over the years having used more than 50 different distros for at least a few months at a time. I'm an old-timer having started my Linux journey in 2002. My favorites are Arch, Mint, and Debian but I see the merits of Fedora-based distros, and ones as challenging as slackware and Gentoo. If you just want to get used to Linux to explore it's abilities for a non-linux user? Linux Mint.
